I'm enjoying these "experiences" being shared by "working class queers":

Daisy, 18: “Freedom of gender is usually sold to us in the form of middle-class cisgender men/women in non-conventional clothing”. This shows that if we do not see representations of queer working-class people we start to believe they do not exist.

Khaleel, 21: “Conversations around queerness were never had in my area,”

You know why "queer working-class people" don't exist? Because regardless of our sexuality, the actual working class doesn't give 2 shits about this nonsense.

Rent is due, we've got bills to pay and mouths to feed, our trainers/sneakers are held together with prayers and Shoe Goo until next month's paycheck, and we're worried that our POS car might break down again and we won't be able to get to work. We don't have the luxury of being concerned about whether our clothing choice accurately reflects our personal corporate brand identity to anyone else.

Exactly. The ability to navel-gaze that hard is a privilege even if the navel-gazers pretend otherwise. They also need to turn the TV off and maybe realize what's on the screen isn't actually real life.

Labour can't seem to grasp this can they? Working people are voting Tory at this point, yet Labour just don't get it.

her narcissism is astounding. ok so 200 years from now, are we going to have these type of people write things like, "oh my gawd..i cant believe people dont think of saudi arabia when they think "queer bisexual woman"". im so offended. what gave them the idea that we collectively were going for the "kill every gay and lesbian" vibe? I think theyre being racist!"

Out of the 10,000 words she used, her selfishness and sense of entitlement really shows. "yes, im a victim because people misperceive middle class people as homophobic heterosexuals but i wonder why that happens! oh by the way my best friend is gay and has been humiliated and bullied to death BUT ANYWAYS, about me!" lol i think she might genuinely be evil if her misunderstandings come from such a deep lack of empathy.

so gays and lesbians from her community are massively screwed, dehumanized and destroyed and sabotaged and instead of investing energy into empowering them with the privilege she was given so she can humanize same sex attraction, she writes that she abandoned the gays and lesbians from her community and now wants access to wealthier gays and lesbians and will now continue writing about how they dont relate to her. These people dont want access to just any gays/lesbians. they want to elbow their way into access to wealthier gays/lesbians and make it their responsibility to be allowed to be exploited by these "queer" women. That's all i got from this.

I think back 30 years to when homophobia was the norm, when no one was out on my entire college campus, when it was common for people to be disowned by their families for coming out as gay, when HIV was a death sentence, and when sodomy was still a crime, affirmed by SCOTUS in 1986.

And then I read about people feeling bad because they are not validated by external representations, and I think, "Oh, cry me a fucking river." But people have been trained to fit their experiences into this oppression paradigm, whether they merit that paradigm or not.

i think she knows what she's doing and it's more of an attack and attempt at exploitation and basically at theft of precious social capital that took forever to build. i see this pattern constantly repeated.

She highly benefits and perpetuates heterosexual supremacy when it suits her and she knows it actively harms, kills and destroys gays and lesbians but she's extremely happy to do it in her backwards little town. If this was 20 years ago, she would be getting married to a man in a homophobic church and smirking at the gays and lesbians and their subhuman status.

what boils her blood is that she's encountered gays and lesbians who arent subhuman and above her and that's a massive problem that needs fixing. so she understands that her "gay best friend"'s life has been ruined within her system and group and she abandoned him...fine, you're not obligated to help him in any way...but why then do you demand 10,000 more help and empathy than the speck of dirt's worth of empathy you would never even give to your out gay friend?

She'll wait for her gay and lesbian "allies" to die, suffer, do all the work within her community and then she'll run back there and write articles of how there's another community she abused and neglected and she needs immediate access to it. this is what gays and lesbians mean when we say "pick a side". it's never about dating but what she's doing. we need to start making consequences for people like this. her narcissism isnt our problem.

It's like the whole world turned on a dime around 2012-ish.

There were two girls who were arrested and charged with public indecency at my high school for making out on campus! They got community service. This was around 2006.

I increasingly feel like I'm from a different country.

Remember when people use the word queer, tell them it's meaningless. I've had arguments with asexuals and they dont even say "LGBT" when im pretending to be a liberal to them. they literally just use the word "queer" to elbow their way in. "you dont belong in the queer community". Just say, "queer can mean anything now. a straight woman liking the colour blue is now queer..it means nothing so there's no such thing as the queer community but i've heard of the gay community if that's what you're referring to. one is an ideology and one is an actual community". people here need to understand what queer means and how it's used. it's not a substitute or competitor to anything gay. it's just an ideology. just because im a capitalist and so are all the evil oligarch billionaires doesnt mean we're in the same community. just like because a straight homophobic christian woman identifies as "queer" doesnt mean we're friends or allies in the slightest. it's more of an aesthetic to thee people.

I can kind of relate to where she's coming from. Although the situation in the U.S. is wildly different there are similarities with the class issues and culture shock between members of the gay community who are from different backgrounds.

Wealthy white Americans, especially from politically liberal areas, tend to think their experiences and values are universal and can be hostile to outsiders. I grew up in an isolated rural area and when I moved to a college town I got the cold shoulder from people and I broke a lot of invisible rules.

This "everyone hates me because I'm femme" nonsense is not true to my experience. Gay women of all stripes tend to prefer feminine women. This is some sort of British class issue being mistaken for something philosophical.

Like, these wealthy kids have gotten the memo that feminine bisexual women are looked down on as dilettantes and she didn't, so they go out of their way to signal that knowledge to others in the way they dress.
