Woman=adult human female does not infer any universal experience, nor does it refer to a feminine essence or soul that can become trapped in a wrong body as queer theory says it can.

Essentialism isn’t there.

Woman=adult human female is descriptive, not prescriptive. It’s an observation of physical reality. An adult human female is any adult human who’s body developed in such a way that without disease, disorder, injury, or medical interference, will release ova. It’s not contingent on actual ovulation.

Nobody body stops existing if it’s not being actively used. We’re bipedal when we’re sitting down just as much as when we’re walking.

[–]Houseplant 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Transitioning as an adult is fine. Your body, your money, your right. As long as the adult in question is capable of rational decision-making and understands the risks they are exposing themselves to, no problem.

It is unethical imo to believe that these surgeries should be publicly funded or should be prioritised ahead of medically necessary procedures. Nobody has died directly due to not having breasts, many have died without rapid mastectomy.
Suicide is not directly caused by waiting for surgery. It may be a factor in someone’s choice to end their life, but it is emotionally manipulative and disingenuous when people claim suicide counts as a death from not getting surgery.

There is no ethical way to experiment on children if we accept exposing children to harm is ethically wrong.

People can argue til they are blue in the face that it isn’t experimentation but they also cannot produce documentation of long term results of puberty blockers in healthy children, and they cannot provide evidence of puberty blockers being harmless in children who had precocious puberty.

It might not be set up as an experiment according to scientific method, but it is experimental. It has not been done before and the long term outcomes are unknown.

Halting a child’s development to, paradoxically somehow allow them to develop, is unethical imo. It is taking a physically healthy child and interfering with the healthy functions of their body to focus further on gender identity. Anything short of guiding the child to understanding that their body is healthy and acceptable as it is, and that their sex does not prevent them from being the people they want to be, is too close to conversion therapy for my comfort.

Encouraging a child to think that they have the wrong body is cruel and unusual. We recognise this when parents foster eating disordered behaviour or shame visible conditions like cleft lips, strabismus, limps, palsies, etc etc. Changing the specific flaw to the child’s sex does not change the fact that the idea encouraged is a vile one.

Internal rather than external validation for starters.

The ability to value yourself even when faced with difficulty or rejection without needing another party to assign value to you. Imo this is desperately lacking. When you have a bad day a healthy adult is meant to be able to say ‘I did my best’ and move on.

Instead we have a generation of adults who try and strip women of rights because they lack the ability to say ‘I’m a woman to me and that’s enough’

No. I’m saying they are taught it as normalcy and propriety from birth.

I don’t know what they want, but I doubt the average woman wakes up and says I will wear a skirt because it is womanly.

It’s not ridiculous, what’s ridiculous is the idea of anybody being truly gender conforming. Nobody meets every norm assigned to their sex.

I just don’t think gender is innate or particularly meaningful when one doesn’t obsess over it like qt does.

I disagree with gender relating to sexuality. How does sexuality translate to ideas like women are emotional, men are aggressive, girls are highly, boys are grubby etc? How does sexuality relate to gender at all?

I agree anyone who presents as gnc and actively makes an effort to do so due to gendered thinking has not escaped gender.
What about those of us who simply don’t assign a gender or sex to our preferences? Is that a lie we tell ourselves? Does that somehow affect our sexuality if the two are linked?

This seems like a whole lot of odd and some sexist assumptions being presented as something like factual or given knowledge.

How does the oppression of women fit into innate gender? Is that oppression the natural order?

GC: Is sexual attraction only based on genitals, or is there more to sexual attraction (e.g. attraction to secondary sexual characteristics, "femininity", "masculinity", etc)? by Not_a_celebrity in GCdebatesQT

[–]Houseplant 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Feminine penis? No. A penis is a penis regardless of its size, how soft the skin might be, or how feminine the man who’s penis it is might appear. Estrogen does not magically make a penis anything other than a penis. It’s nonsense to claim it becomes anything other than a limper dick.

I don’t think I have anything worthwhile to contribute to defining people’s sexualities. Been in a hetero relationship for 8 years and will likely stay in it for life. I will say it looks as if homosexual people’s sexualities are being almost weaponised against them and/or erased in a drawn out intellectual exercise. There’s a lot of compulsory heterosexuality demands beneath all the gender identity rhetoric.

So would you say that there are absolutely no commonalities or general trends in a field like say, midwifery?

They should genuinely consider the idea that some of their patients are male? They should investigate all bodily orifices to see where the baby will come out and not assume the patient is a woman with a cervix that is dilating?

It’s extremely difficult to understand how this line of thinking works.

Also!! Does this mean you think the crime stats that prove males make up the majority of rapists is untrue? Because males don’t exist? Is there any commonality between the people making up the rapist demographic besides being rapists? Like the penises they raped with perhaps?

Seriously, this line of thinking would be so harmful if adopted by lawmakers or the general populace.

There was no good outcome for women as soon as Laurel was allowed to compete.

If he won, he robbed women of their victory because he has no place in their competition. His loss is now just another tool for people to bludgeon the false message of ~delicate little weakling transwoman couldn’t even lift as much as women do, ergo transwomen can have women’s spaces for protection of their fragile little bones.

Nothing but a loss for women was gonna come out of this because nobody wants the consequences of acknowledging that a shitty male athlete doesn’t have a right to compete with women.

[–]Houseplant[S] 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Do most people who perform gender after being indoctrinated in the system since birth really desire performing it? I don’t think so.

I don’t agree with the idea that people generally desire to perform gender, let alone desire to do whatever gender roles indicate they are supposed to do or like.

How does this gel with the narrative many trans people have that follows along the track of ‘I liked pink when told to like blue, therefore I’m a woman inside’ or vice versa?

Do you think the average ‘gender conforming’ (ridiculous notion since nobody is properly conforming to all norms assigned) person truly wants to do it, or simply feels they must due to societal expectations?

Why do we need a flexible gender system? Why do we need gender at all?

It’s not innate imo, and all cultures have it because all cultures recognise the sexed differences and have found it useful to apply restrictions to behaviour.

I think it’s a start, but ultimately while individuals can get along, the tra movement cannot coexist with women. It’s too fundamentally hateful of women to allow us humanity or the right to safety. Nobody can be friends with the people who oppress them and that is exactly what the men who most forcefully endorse genderism and tra ideas are.

When it’s no longer trendy there may be a chance for peace between women and transsexuals. From what I’ve seen transsexual individuals are typically uninterested in the modern gender discourse and simply wish to be left be.

But it’s been explained to you that for others, privacy is absolutely a sex segregated thing. You disagreeing with it doesn’t make others wrong or their needs disappear. Stalls will not help preventing cameras planted by men. Stalls will not stop creepy conversations. Stalls can be blocked by stronger male bodies and now the assault is happening in a locked space.

Stalls do not solve anything other than the “problem” of males lacking access to women’s spaces. Calling the males women does nothing to change this.

behaviors and social roles align with what society labels as a "woman" — which does differ between cultures. I like to wear feminine clothing and makeup, I do things like cleaning and setting the table, I act pretty feminine, but not flamboyant, I have a lot of feminine mannerisms, etc. In Southern culture: cleaning and setting the table are seen as more womanly roles than they are up North, which is why I mention them.

So you’re a woman because you perform femininity as it’s prescribed by your culture? How is this not plain old sexism?

I’d say that a similarity in brain structure between sexes have nothing to do with sex as it’s understood by everyone except qt and that any connection is one that is forced by a heteronormative bias.

The brain does not determine sex. A male brain is one in a male body. Lesbians have female brains because they are female. Their attraction to women is not a masculine trait and masculinity has absolutely nothing to do with lesbian sexuality.

If you accuse someone of contributing to suicide, let’s make it a suicide that has happened and not one you’re imagining. Preferably include footage of when we supposedly kick out the chair.

I’d also like to remind tra posters about how the lack of rules is not as great for gc as they think. One of y’all was allowed to tell me I am a moral failure for not medically assisting my rapist after I broke his nose. Your side is allowed to defend rapists here with nothing more than a warning. Sexual reproduction still exists if there are species that don’t do it. How on earth is sexual reproduction impacted by how a slug or a slime mold makes another slug or slime mold?

Would a chicken stop being a chicken if we didn’t evolve language? Or would the entire category of animal cease to exist? Would they suddenly start laying fertilised eggs without roosters around if we got rid of the names?

The categories are not invented. They are observed and recorded in an invented language.

Sounds silly, cause it is silly. Redundancies are not helpful to communication. It’s absolutely not more truthful or clear to say that “female men can get pregnant” than it is to say “women can get pregnant”.

There is yet to be a convincing reason to all of a sudden force gender to take over sex. Capitulating to silly language games like saying a nonsensical phrase such as “male women cannot get pregnant but female men can” isn’t finding even ground if it still requires all English speakers to perform an upheaval for a tiny group who can’t even explain why we must make the changes.
