I had a similar situation in my Canadian University.

The vote was something like "To be a chairperson of a student union group/club, you had to identify as that group. First nations group? First nations leaders. Any branch of LGBQ as well. But the clubs elected their own chairpeople!

I was the only person who voted against this. (REALLY awkward to be in a room of 200 angry LGBQ looking at you like you're voting against them)

I don't get it: What if a gay club thought a straight student represented really well? If they weren't fit to run the club, OR if the majority of members thought the leaders should be gay, wouldn't it just be voted as so?

On desktop, the forced redirect of direct image links to the image "page", with all the bloat of "similar images", the ads, and the social aspects. (Imgur takes 10s of seconds to load for me at times)

On mobile, the slow loading times to push the app. Just the bloat overall.

Their "social/political" leanings in their community. Also, just the general push for Imgur to BE a social community of memes and stupid pics. Tracking and all the rest that comes with it.

Finally, this is just my speculation, but Imgur was essentially only a tool for hosting images for that other "-dit" site, for many years. I could think ~70% of clicks are just between these two parties, driving tonnes of ad revenue, and there would be at least a little collusion.

But they are running a site that is under the guise of being totally created by the public, and sorted/voted on by the public.

This skews the perception by the user base, and at this point, is pretty hard pressed to not be considered targeted propaganda.

They need to make their manipulation guideline, techniques, and frequency known in order to not be such.

Me and the wife are going on 7 years married, 12(?) years together total. It's funny how "special" becomes a lot more simple as time goes by. A nice home cooked dinner and a walk together or something like that.

I think if there were comments (or some unknown level of activity?) on the post, it would stay with the name [deleted]. Other times, it is fully removed.

It was always a bit janky and I never really got a thorough explanation over the years.

Hard to "prove". What about religions based on only love, acceptance, or self discovery? Ones that don't involve themselves with anyone other. (I would like to think I fall into this category, although "religion" is a weird term for it)

It's also not a exclusive state, one can believe in a God and have it not change their morals, ethics. Modern "God" theories also are more likely to point to some type of consciousness, or even extra-terrestrials.

Believing in a God also doesn't exclude desire to learn or wonder of the universe.

It can just be as simple as a belief of how the universe is formed/works, doesn't have to be a loaded thing like you're saying.

Holy shit. This is a site admin public declaring the site compromised and the owner a ghost. I've also learned that g0ldfish1 has abandoned the notabug project.

I only stumbled on magnora7's interview on TheHighersideChats a few weeks ago, and it gave me a wave of hype towards the decentralized, free speech corners of the public internet. However, it looks as though it is almost not possible for a single "entity" to do this; attackers in many forms drag these sites into the mud, incite mutiny, post racism and hate and pornography, ddos, etc.

Are the owners burnt out? (I would be) or even behind the scenes forced out by higher powers?

Maybe engaging with the users in formation of rules is a fruitless endeavor. A super authoritarian site ruler that never negotiates on poilcy is also clearly not ideal, but at least it stops any infighting and drama. "Here are the rules of the community, or fuck off to a site you like better." but idk

I think the r*ddit style of aggregator/forum is a bit better than the chans. (of course I mean what saidit is running now, not the redesign) I think the functionality of the site could be tweaked a bit in order to make it better, like giving a distinction from whether a post is focused on the media, or whether a post is focused on discussion. A user would have the algorithm tailored to them based on what they are trying to see more of. Posts individually would have different sorting/display/functionality methods depending on their type.

You are probably correct that a traditional forum would be better than saidit for a discussion focused site.

Anyway, a very sad state of the union. Let us fly the saidit flag upside down.
