Oh wow, okay. So this is going to take a bit, and it's all happened some time ago, so my memory on the exact details is a bit spotty.

Basically, Reddit did a bunch of purges after Trump got elected, because that rubbed a lot of the admins and powermods the wrong way. At the same time, a lot of the silly and unbelievable TiA shit stopped being silly and unbelievable once people in power--like the ones at Reddit itself--started formulating and enacting policies around it (like attempts at policies that would make misgendering someone a criminal offense). And the forefront of that was the genderspecials (non-binary, genderfluid, transmasc, and shit like that) and transgenders.

So towards the end of its time on Reddit, the old TiA found its membership increased by a lot of refugees from purged sites, quite a few of which militant feminists. Naturally, they had a particular axe to grind with regards to the transgenders, and did so, but Reddit's reporting policies (and bot usage) made certain terms instantly bannable offenses, so alternatives came up: snart (trans backwards), trains, and troon (which is a really old term, from Something Awful IIRC, a combination of trans and goon).

(The radfems also got increasingly comfortable about stepping out of that trans lane and talking shit about men in general, and generally acting like TiA was their sub and the rest of the members unwelcome guests. They had to periodically reminded that they were TiA content themselves. They didn't like that.)

Well, anyway, in due time the old TiA got its turn under the banhammer and that was that. The angry feminists mostly migrated to Ovarit, the rest of us came here or just fucked off entirely (mostly the latter, going by this sub's low subscriber count). And that's that.

You're not wrong that there's a big emphasis on the trans stuff though. Because that's the hot-button issue right now, especially with regards to kids getting their heads filled with shit that other people then push them into acting on with horrible, life-long consequences. We haven't forgotten the other shit though, but it's on the backburner right now and the silly shit just isn't as important anymore. It must also be remembered that a lot of the silly shit, as I mentioned earlier, unexpectedly became serious shit in some cases. So we're also kind of reluctant to just laugh off anything else, because we don't know if it'll suddenly stop being funny and start being something that people actually get hired or fired over (Sam Brinton in the White House, for example).

And with regards to your specific point about trans people getting piled on, that's a sadly inevitable outcome of the growing backlash. I don't think many of the people on this sub actually care about someone just getting through life however they can, even if that involves playing a rather convoluted version of "let's pretend." (Caitlyn Jenner, to name one example, isn't a subject of any posts that I can ever recall.) But the extremist TRAs (trans rights advocates) and the troons have effectively killed our ability to be nice by their actions. Because we did that, and that's how those fuckers got in the door to begin with.

Reddit's overlords decided that a whole bunch of 3rd-party stuff that made the site more accessible or just better to otherwise use needed to start paying for that functionality. Which, in itself, wouldn't have been a problem per se. Except that that they decided on an absolutely excessive price that was clearly meant to either drive those third parties out of action entirely or give Reddit a level of income all out of proportion with what they were providing on their end.

A number of Reddit's (unpaid) mods decided that this was not acceptable and blacked out their subs for a couple of days in protest. And a few subs have decided to remain dark even after the initial 48-hour protest period. Of course, since not many of the biggest subs joined the protest, the actual effectiveness was debatable.

However, one definite consequence was that Reddit's overlords had their noses suddenly and unpleasant rubbed in a great big, stinky pile of fact that their useful idiots (mods and user alike in that category) could potentially enact a level of site disruption that threatens their ability to sell advertising or monetize content.

So they have decreed a new policy that the moderation team of any sub that remains dark (or, in the future, otherwise proves intractable) can be removed and replaced with more "acceptable" moderation teams. Now this isn't much of a policy on the face of it, since Reddit always had the power to shitcan mods at will. The wrinkle here is that this policy puts more of that shitcan power in the hands of a sub's users. I don't know the exact details of how this is supposed to work--or even if those details have yet been released in general--but I can all too easily see this being abused by the members of subs known for brigading behavior.

If you think about it, it's a very insidious mental trap that manipulates people into agreeing that a falsehood is truth (or vice-versa) because of a bit of verbal (or mathematical in this case) sleight of hand. Because it was long-standing point of the movement, when they were protesting and lobbying for legal protections and whatnot, that they weren't (as their critics repeatedly claimed) going after children. But here we are regardless, pushing this shit in schools to force normalization in the minds of kids who are too young to ask questions and maybe know to doubt what they're being told. (Oh, but having religion in schools--which I am also against for the same reasons--is considered brainwashing...)
