My asshole was on fire earlier but that was because I ate spicy Popeyes chicken strips

While I'm laughing at the diversity clowns getting shut out, I will admit that their accusations aren't wrong. The entertainment industry really is just pandering to them while there's money to had from doing so. Once that money runs out, it's back to business as usual. And what the wokies never seem to get is that nobody is going to restructure a multi-billion dollar industry that works into a shambling wreck of representation and inclusion that barely scrapes by each year. Because the wokies themselves don't pump nearly enough money into the shit that they support to make it viable, it's why they have to constantly force the rest of us into compliance with legislation and social control.

It’s like the progressives don’t understand that Hollywood is losing money right now - largely because the pmc’s that run the companies were convinced that if they pandered to wokies the wokies would pay them money. So we get endless TV shows and movies that are insufferable and not in the slightest bit entertaining and sure-thing franchise IPs go tits up (Lucasfilm has actually killed every single one of their IPs except Howard the Duck, and that’s probably because it reverted to Marvel or something).

The wokie/progressive types have had about six years or so to demonstrate the financial viability of their ideology and its fucking failed every test as each time the film or show fails and they blame racism or homophobia. Fan baiting is still being used to market films, they think that catering to a fan’s existing audience is anathema-which is just bizarre. If they had made Indiana Jones and the Temple of Raiding Crusades and just followed the formula they would have had a billion dollar hit….but they had to put Phoebe Waller Bridge in it and deconstruct Indy (and make him a pathetic old man instead of the badass hero we love).

Fuck these people, I hope they all die.

Even beyond that problem, Hollywood has finally caught on that not only is pandering to the wokies so they stop whining going to cause the majority of people to not see the movie, but the wokies won't be happy either because there's always another level down that you didn't satisfy- and they're starting to catch on that the wokies will keep going downward and downward literally until it becomes "you didn't cast ME, PERSONALLY, so that means you're bigoted against me!"

Trouble is, with the way that production is years ahead of release, and with the added time drain of the writers’ strike and now the actors’ strike, it’s going to be years and years before we stop seeing films and TV that pander to the progressive left.

and part of it's just experience--in 2016 when students were praying, crying, and screaming in professors' faces for saying they were mature enough to handle seeing a Halloween costume (of course since they're Yalies, they'll never be able to cope with the real world) it was genuinely shocking: by 2017 the attitude was shifting a bit, because every week a bunch of 20yos were storming the offices with a list of non-negotiable demands about a subject they'd just learned about last quarter; and next year the noserings and bluehairs will be back demanding left-handedness be recognized as a disability or that toilet paper must be hung a certain way or some bloody other thing

"we're the oncoming new generation, like it or not!" didn't last long either: sure they're in the HR departments and the exploding academic administratum and others make a living saying Rome never existed on TikTok, but in the end their booby prize (heh) is Dylan Mulvaney meeting the ultimate Boomer, a chickenhawk who wrote the 1994 Crime Bill and is falling behind Trump (and wasn't he supposed to fire up the crematoria, cancel the elections, and start WWIII all by 2018? there were articles in prestige magazines by professors saying all that)

the more scabrous lefties pointed out that the candidate who freed slaves was attacked as having a "Black woman problem" by the candidate who had house slaves as First Lady of Arkansas; those shouted down over Dr. Seuss had the last laugh when the same people started howling over school libraries next year; Believe All Women got the one-two punch of Tara Reade and Amber Heard; they memory-holed non-minstrel blackface and the word "retarded" from several shows, and kiboshed the Land o'Lakes lass, and nothing changed in meatspace (in fact the litany is still "racism and sexism are worse today than they were in 1953!")

people say "it's a religion" but I'm specifically reminded of the to-do over gurus in the 70s, how they thought weird Hindu offshoots would displace Christianity itself: heck, as late as 1995 Carl Sagan was seriously worried scientists would be burned alive by New Agers, enough to put it in a book (about detecting barmy claims from trusted sources, no less); it's real fun to see Rennie Davis's brain break completely and join a cult

Hollywood recently imposed DEI requirements into Academy award nominations. Though maybe it was just an admission that the awards have become irrelevant.

[–]ClassroomPast6178 10 insightful - 3 fun10 insightful - 2 fun11 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

The awards have died. It’s largely being seen as insufferable rich people slapping each other on the backs whilst they preach endlessly about their rich people causes to the plebs who they think they’re superior to.

Social media and the 24/7 news cycle really killed the mystique of the movie star, it’s interesting that the last real movie star, Tom Cruise, is not really on social media, he just makes his movies, treats his fans with respect and sucks Xeno’s cock (or whatever Scientologists do)

[–]xoenix[S] 7 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

At this point Scientology seems more normal than the woke cult.

dunno, it literally hooked up with the proto-woke Nation of Islam in the 90s since they share things like trillion-year timelines, engine-less interwar airplanes flying between planets, and evil mad scientists; they even cross-train officers

I know it was the Golden Globes and not the Oscars, but Ricky Gervais was the best thing to happen to any media awards show. The way he mercilessly deflated their pomposity was genius.

It's all coming down:

I'm eagerly awaiting the lawsuits that will result from corporate DEI policy. My last company outright said they would be hiring less white people because of St. Floyd. Then they made us take a Microagression course that basically just said all the expressions that white people use are inherently racist. Like, "hard work" and "being on-time" that kinda shit is racist to black people apparently.

[–]OuroborosTheory 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

ironically high-key implying that Black people can't be expected to work, be on time, or speak properly ...

no wonder Robin "when I see a nonwhite person I compulsively think of all the slurs they could be called" Di Angelo was their queen bee until 2020

“Equity activists” aka people who have never held a real job.

These dolts believe these large companies have endless money and don’t understand that the bottom line trumps everything. Nor do they seem to pay attention to actual business events, including the fact that the entertainment industry isn’t immune to the economic headwinds other industries are currently facing. Anything that doesn’t directly contribute to the bottom line becomes fat begging to be trimmed.

I’d love to see Hollywood collapse. They became so arrogant, lazy, and decadent that they believed they could still make tons of money by insulting large swaths of their customers and putting out shitty products with either forced or rehashed ideas.

it's like all those degrees that only prepare you to ... teach other people to get that degree

probably why so many X studies/geographers/language arts/Anglo-Saxon Old English historians go through so much radical posturing about how medieval Scotland was brimming with queer Moorish Muslims, they're scrambling to distinguish themselves: the science departments invent industrial or medical goos, historians can rabidly debunk common myths about the history of goo over time, artists paint or animate with goo and also live off of goo--with those fields there's a tradeoff

Ultimately, you can't stop the general public from voting, either in the polling booth or with their wallets.
