Biological sex is a primary determinant of athletic performance because of fundamental sex differences in anatomy and physiology dictated by sex chromosomes and sex hormones. Adult men are typically stronger, more powerful, and faster than women of similar age and training status. Thus, for athletic events and sports relying on endurance, muscle strength, speed, and power, males typically outperform females by 10%–30% depending on the requirements of the event.

These sex differences in performance emerge with the onset of puberty and coincide with the increase in endogenous sex steroid hormones, in particular testosterone in males, which increases 30-fold by adulthood, but remains low in females.

The primary goal of this consensus statement is to provide the latest scientific knowledge and mechanisms for the sex differences in athletic performance. This review highlights the differences in anatomy and physiology between males and females that are primary determinants of the sex differences in athletic performance and in response to exercise training, and the role of sex steroid hormones (particularly testosterone and estradiol).

Useful anytime a troon tries to run the Gish Gallop on troons in women’s sports.

The pushback on this makes me happy. Now there's more to back it up that'll be useful for other sports.

The fact that it even happened to begin with is shocking. I've met people who quit their sport over it because of safety issues. Hopefully it leads to them getting back into their sports.

Honestly have these people never done sport or had an opposite sex partner or sibling?

I mean I do know some people who intellectually knew they were weaker than their male partner but the reality of it didn't hit until they were play wrestling with him and he could pin her with immense ease. This has happened with multiple people. It's a huge gulf to the point that the fact people question it makes me think they live in fantasy land. I've done a competitive contact sport and trained with men/boys. I could keep up with them as a child but as soon as you hit teen years? Nearly all chance of winning is gone because the difference is so overwhelming. The only way it's even close is if technique comes into play and you're more experienced.

The fact there needs to be a study on it is good for actual evidence but also irritating in that the obvious needs to be proven in a way that can/has harmed womens sports by letting it happen to begin with.

I always bring this up - my brother and I are about a year and a half apart and we were pretty evenly matched until puberty. We equally beat the crap out of each other (my poor Mom), but it was over around 12/13.

I really wonder how socially isolated so many of these people are (not the troons, but their witless supporters) that they don't understand the immense strength difference between men and women.

Yeah genuinely I don't say it to be mean. It baffles me because I can't see how you're...never exposed to this. If they're that isolated it's sad and worrying in it's own right because that can't be healthy. Not saying they should be brawling with everyone in the street but hell I've had a mixed sex basketball game where I've been sent flying as an older teen because one of the boys didn't realise you can't play the same way against women. His look of shock was pretty amusing because he used the normal force he'd use to move a guy.

It can be a shock if your first experience of it is in your 20s rather than when you're 12 and some kid your age accidentally throws you around. I can see how it would really effect you mentally for the lie you've been told that you are equal and could defend yourself only to realise just how wrong that is having a serious impact. I've seen the impact of that realisation in some and it really isn't pretty. All because they've been sold a lie.

People never having those moments actually comes across as dangerous to me. Men learn to be more gentle/what force is required and women learn that there's no bridging that particular gap. Neither side learning those lessons will only end in people being hurt, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Magical thinking is the whole point. The movement is fundamentally based around pretending impossibilities can happen and shouting down anyone who poo-poos your daydreaming.

We all know the better you are at sports the more sex you have.

Troons going to be hating on them.

Yeah, but they'd do that regardless. To the troon, anything less than utter submission to their every demand is cause enough to hate someone or something.

I miss the good old boys Ku Klux Klan. Now they knew how to get rid of queers.

for some reason I'm reminded of that loony HAES "you wouldn't expect a rottweiler to become a chihuahua through exercise, so you wouldn't expect a big woman to lose weight through exercise!" drawing (it might even be a "Poe," but Poe's Law's basically the "it was just a coma dream/they're in Purgatory" theory for the internet, meh)

again, "SJWism" just means "whichever group brought its resentments to Tumblr/the deans and fogeys in the administration building first" rather than anything coherent, systematic
