Consider the ethical impacts of quantum technologies in defence — before it’s too late by ZephirAWT in ScienceUncensored

Consider the ethical impacts of quantum technologies in defence — before it’s too late Physics, as history taught us, can be dangerous. As quantum technology continues to progress (slowly), researchers and governments across the world are worried that it will be used for evil purposes. Why? And should we really be worried about quantum tech?

Consider the ability to enforce such a consideration by parties well motivated into quantum technologies.

Their own side is furious because they know how bad and hypocritical it makes them look. They backed themselves into a corner with prior rhetoric, Biden just took a shit and wiped his ass with their faces, and now they’re standing there with their shit stained faces and answering for Biden’s actions.

This is my 11th day of protest. Hi there /u/magnora7, I've been working on a project with the guys of DAR but I'm unfortunately banned from the group right now. Please listen before you do something, I don't want any sanctions against DAR, in fact, if there are any, I want them to be removed, but I still want my ban to be lifted. I think debatealtright has potential to become a decent counter-intelligence site but people over there need some serious guidance and the whole thing is pointless if I'm isolated from the group or if DAR remains isolated as well, we can think of something if they cross lines but DAR needs exposure regardless. I'll add that we need new mods, with site wide powers over here as well. Span has gotten really bad so I offer myself for the position but overall we need a whole new team as well. I think Saidit is being affected badly so I can't stand still while all of this happens.

Intel To Unveil Next-Gen Arc Battlemage Desktop GPUs Next Month, Expected To Offer "Brilliant" Performance by Myocarditis-Man in technology

I just purchased another backup power station the other day. It has 3 times as much inverter capacity as the one I bought three years ago does, for the same price as the old one. THREE times. Meanwhile the graphics card industry would rather sell 8/12 GB graphics cards forever. RTX3060 is almost 5 years old. It's almost like they all have a gentlemen's agreement to not put a reasonable amount of memory on these things and to not actually compete with each other or something. Remember that GPUs are used for much more than gaming today, and for many other tasks, memory capacity is crucially important.

I still laugh at NVidia reducing the RTX4060 to 8GB, when the RTX3060 was 12GB. You could send that shit to a third-world country and they would laugh at you and send it right back, telling you to keep your garbage.

Experts say Jawlani not only distanced itself from al-Qaida but, having been targeted by Islamic State from early in the civil war, fought hard against its brutal rivals. Over the following years, Jawlani’s fighters sought, with limited success, to win the acquiescence of local communities by providing basic administration and security, rather than simply through fear. In 2021, Jawlani’s efforts to rebrand HTS culminated in an interview with US public broadcasters – though the $10m (£7.9m) reward for information leading to his arrest by US authorities remains.

This strategy led to a fierce debate among analysts. Though the US and Russia, Turkey and other states designate HTS as a terrorist group, some analysts have considered it as breaking with the extreme violence and fanaticism of many previous groups.

They point out that its aims are explicitly local, stripped of any broader vision of a much wider war against the west or Middle Eastern rulers that characterised Islamic State, and that the group has enforced Islamic codes of behaviour less strictly than many expected, recently withdrawing “morality police” from the streets after public protests.

Other experts are convinced that the group’s core thinking remains faithful to the main principles of extremist Islamist ideologies, even if its day-to-day behaviour and tactics are different. They point to thousands of arbitrary detentions in areas under its control and say any idea that HTS is a new and pragmatic form of Islamic militancy is entirely misguided.

I think it's one of those issues that just really resonates with female hysteria on both sides od the aisle. It's one of the more interesting statistics is that while opinions on abortions are basically split evenly between the sexes, women are more likely to take extreme positions on it. Think it's a consequence of emotional thinking.

Personally I don't care enough one way or the other despite my fairly strong opinions on it to think its a major issue worthy of much attention. I'll vote for people who don't share my opinion on it. But I know a lot of people who won't and it usually either boils down to emotional arguments about the poor dead babies or the emotional arguments about the poor women forced to become single mothers or something.

Yeah I've seen those studies. Waiting for a long term one to come about.

My theory is that dysphoria often essentially is a discomfort with one's self and gets misdiagnosed as gender dysphoria when it can better be described as self-dysphoria. After transition you are still you and so the dysphoria is still there.

I think some small proportion of the population do actually have gender dysphoria that might be cleared up by transition but I think it's very rare.

What you think an abortion is done on a satanic altar with a magical knife and while reading the Necronomicon?

Yeah duh. How do you think they are performed? Planned Parenthond? P P. Pentagram Perdition. Think about it.

Oh, cute. You don't realize that denying people healthcare results in their deaths.

Sounds great. Healthcare runs counter to the survival of the fittest anyway and should be illegal. I propose we put a full ban on all forms of Healthcare. Think about how much money it will save the American tax payer.

New Theoretical Relationship For Helium-4 Production By Cold Fusion Electrolysis. Experiment Evidence That Fleischmann-Pons Were Correct In Their Reports For Cold Fusion.

Here I'm explaining, why is hot fusion DD fusion seldom toward He4. The formation of symmetrical product He-4 requires thermal equilibrium of neutron distribution between helium atoms, which can be established only within cold fusion system with "slow" neutrons and "heavy" electrons (compare Widom-Larsen theory in this regard). We can find analogies of it for chemical thermodynamics, for example the formation of symmetric hydrogen peroxide during slow oxidation of hydrogen at low temperatures and so own.

Palladium catalyzes cold fusion probably by establishing of nanocracks along crystal domains where deuterium get strongly absorbed and arranged into linear chains which serve as a waveguides for neutrons. We can again find many analogies in surface catalysis, where reactions lead into highly thermodynamically unfavorable and metastable products by confining their constituents into 2D surfaces. In this regard the cold fusion utilizes 1-D chain catalysis, which is more rare but even more effective. Another indicia of this model is the fact that cold fusion runs better at low temperatures, because hot lattice kills linear arrangement of atoms mby making it less statistically probable.

New Zealand: Crashed navy ship Manawanui was left on autopilot, inquiry finds by hfxB0oyA in WorldNews

I'm sure it wasn't the captain of the ship's fault. I mean how could you expect the captain to know whether the ship was on autopilot? Their job is to be stunning and brave during press conferences, not pilot the ship.

The Internet Archive lost their case. To me, it seems a bit reckless if not greedy for them to continue pursuing this, since "lending ebooks" is not their core purpose - and the possible financial consequences of continuing the fight could conceivably risk the viability of the rest of the archive.

Internet Archive forced to remove 500,000 books after publishers’ court win The Internet Archive have upset some powerful people, as recent court cases have shown. But that is just the copyright business lobby - there will be other disgruntled parties who don't bother with the courts (because their activities are already outside the law). Personally, I feel the IA might have over-stepped their original mission. Keeping a low-profile record of past websites, via the Wayback Machine, is a valuable service - but IA's continued expansion risks angering too many people.

Americans scream tyranny makes you safer, but actually the police state actually increases danger.

Now instead of worrying about criminals, you also need to be avoid the Gestapo and terrorist bombings that are a response to tyranny.

Americans do not seem to understand that tyranny leads to having a dictator because everyone who is a danger is killed off.

A better response than I was about to write. I wonder if the gish gallop of lies we're about to see with another trump presidency will bury search engine results for some of these facts. It seems that search results are often saturated with clickbait, because those are popular, though often misleading. Anyhow, this is what I had to say to zeonix, on which he'd certainly agree 😬 :

Putin helped Trump by arranging for the hacking of DNC accounts, as well as Hunter's iCloud account. It's very well known. Anyone supporting that is a traitor to the US.

The Mundaneum, a Proto-Internet Made of Index Cards

Belgian lawyer Paul Otlet and Nobel Peace Prize winner Henri LaFontaine established the project in 1910 with the aim of compiling the entirety of human knowledge on 3-by-5 index cards. The collection was to be the centerpiece of a “world city” designed by Le Corbusier, a nucleus of knowledge that would inspire the world with its libraries, museums, and universities.

The Internet Archive is under attack, with a breach revealing info for 31 million accounts

HIBP refers to Have I Been Pwned?, a website where people can look up whether their information has been published in data leaked from cyberattacks. HIBP operator Troy Hunt confirmed to BleepingComputer that he received a file containing “email addresses, screen names, password change timestamps, Bcrypt-hashed passwords, and other internal data” for 31 million unique email addresses nine days ago and confirmed it was valid by matching data with a user’s account.

I find it a little disconcerting that IA only has about $3mm in net assets (as of the most recent filing), and seems to survive solely on contributions from Kahle. See also:
