Have you heard of the "adoption" argument TRAs are using? How do we tackle it? by UWUness in GenderCritical

[–]Sebell 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

72% of English words have more than one meaning. That's how "TWAW" takes off as a meme - when I first heard it, I thought no one could be stupid enough to think transwomen were actually, literally, women, it just meant that in certain contexts, we treat them as women. No one would think it's literally true right?

AhAhAHHhahaha

Anyways - Historically, adoptions historically were hidden. Children would be adopted, their birth certificate amended with a lie that their birth parents were someone else, and the child never told about it.

Today - we think that is horrifically and horribly wrong. We expect older children, teenagers, and adults, to be able to tell the difference between a birth mother and a adoptive mother. People avoid calling attention to the fact that they are adopted.

Changing someone's sex on their documentation had the same purpose: to hide the truth so people wouldn't know someone had a sex change. It does serve the same function - avoiding unwanted attention.

In both cases though - we know that an adoptive mom isn't a biological mom, just like we should know a transwoman isn't a real woman.

In context of misconduct in front of the camera while doing porn work: yes.

But it's important to note how common this is in porn, she's one of the few people who said she chooses to believe women and accepts that her intent didn't matter - all that matters is how the women feel about the experiences they had.

This is how everyone else responds:

The allegations recently resurfaced on Twitter and, when asked by the trade publication XBIZ about the claims, Stagliano pointed to a YouTube interview in which he said, “We’re all assuming that you’re an adult and you can just say ‘no’ when you don’t want to do something instead of say, ‘Well, I didn’t really want to do it. Oh, the pressure [pretend crying]. Oh, help me.’ Well, say ‘help me!’” He continued, “Women want the right to be equal to men, and there comes a little responsibility with that. Which is: stand up for yourself.” Stagliano added, “Don’t expect us to treat you like a full human being if you don’t act like a full human being.”

Using AMAB - which is what transactivists ask for - is now... prejudiced?

They also don't understand "Erasure" which isn't surprising - they took the word and twisted it.

Traditionally, it's use in Women's Studies is talking about the fact that women make up 50% of the population, but they were not present, or "erased" from history books and other forms of media and communication - they weren't represented, they were erased.

Transactivists took it and turned it into "you're trying to erase me" aka "you're trying to kill me". That's their definition of it.

Some of these terms I've never heard of, and I've been around GC spaces for years.

Anytime someone on reddit says "I'm passing..." look at their history, you'll find their selfies pretty easily, and... never has one been close to passing. I'm not going to say across a room you might not notice, or you might not notice right away until someone speaks, but unless someone has had a lot of surgery, they don't tend to pass - and then they look like someone who has had a lot of surgery done.

The transwomen who pass the best are actually 60 - 80 year olds who aren't super concerned with their looks anymore and transitioned a long time ago. But they aren't transbians - they are attracted to men. That makes a HUGE difference. Transwomen attracted to men are much more likely to pass, for whatever reason.

You don't "owe" anyone an explanation when you break up. You definitely need to have someone on your side in real life - you don't have to tell them why either, just that you're going through a rough patch and breaking up.

Women are socialized to care for others - to our own detriment. You have to put yourself first. A partner isn't someone who needs a care taker. A real partner is a give and take relationship, each of you looking out for each other. You're describing a one-sided relationship - that's enough reason to get out, even if you were bisexual and the rest didn't matter.

Feminism isn't "making a choice". It's fighting for the FREEDOM and right to choose. Not the same thing at all!

Feminism is an activist fighting for women to have the choice. You get to choose to wear heels or to not wear them. Maybe you normally do, but don't on a Monday because you're legs ache, after running over the weekend. Great! You have the choice.

In 2016, a woman in Britain was fired for not wearing high heels to work. She wasn't the first, won't be the last. She didn't have the choice not to wear them.

First, you must define "Attraction".

I would define attraction as "all the various things that make me want to be in a monogamous relationship with someone". The way a person looks does matter, but you can find surveys of people that confirm there are more important things than looks when choosing a partner. Only really shallow people define attraction as "the way someone looks".

Finally, after the banning, I saw 1 (yes just one) comment about what was racist on GC: "Comparing Rachel Dolzal and her appropriation of blackness to transwomen's appropriation of womanhood". That's it, that's what was "racist". And yes, that comes from someone who thinks "Transwomen are Women" - therefore the comparison is unfair.

Frankly, I'm tired of censorship and little holes where no one discusses anything. I don't think most "Woke" people can defend their positions. They don't have to. They just say "TERF!" or "CANCELLED" and never explain their position at all. It's one of the reasons trans-activist-ideology is so weak - they simply ignore all critique and say "disagreement is transphobia".

This was refreshing to read, thank you.

I always have to push it isn't "Queer Feminism" but "Trans Feminism" - like Julia Serrano - that actually pushes the idea that women is an identity.

Queer Feminism, as it was taught to me, was about "Queering Gender" - by "rebelling" against gender stereotypes, we can destroy the inequality between the sexes. "Queer theory holds that individual sexuality is a fluid, fragmented, and dynamic collectivity of possible sexualities and it may vary at different points during one's life." (Yes, it's postmodern, based in deconstruction, etc). It's not really that different from the 2nd Wave position that destroying the idea of "man" and "women" as social roles in a society would lead to more freedom, it's just a lot more philosophical and intellectual and inaccessible.

TransFeminism is the idea that male and female are essences, they are innate, they can't be changed, but they aren't binary, and if we loosen the binary, but appreciated "feminine traits" more as society, then society will be more equal. Discrimination is against "feminine" traits, not "female" people. It's strongly influenced by Queer Theory, and people try hard to reconcile both points of view, but if we name the problem it's Transfeminism, not Queer Theory. The argument is "transwomen exist, and we don't know why, but because they do, it proves that innate sense of gender exists in all people". Because of this - it's accessible and easy to understand and THIS is what people are pushing as a message.

That's the stuff that irritates me. You can argue "informed consent reduces barriers to treatment for transgender individuals" - without lying about it. But that's the whole argument. "I'm critical of x practice though" - it never happens! You're misinformed!

It's maddening, because the people making these arguments actually DO KNOW BETTER - you can see from their post history they are very involved in the trans communities - but they just straight up lie, to keep people from looking and thinking critically.

"This, the opening line of Book II, is de Beauvoir’s most famous statement. It represents the logical continuation of the proofs de Beauvoir offers in Book I to support her argument that femininity does not arise from differences in biology, psychology, or intellect. Rather, femininity is a construction of civilization, a reflection not of “essential” differences in men and women but of differences in their situation. Situation determines character, not the other way around. Woman is not born fully formed; she is gradually shaped by her upbringing. Biology does not determine what makes a woman a woman—a woman learns her role from man and others in society. Woman is not born passive, secondary, and nonessential, but all the forces in the external world have conspired to make her so."

I have no idea why transwomen keep quoting this. It means "women's behavior doesn't come from biology, it isn't innate - it's taught to them by society".

The exact opposite of "My gender is innate, I have a gender identity".

[–]Sebell 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Look at Margaret Mead - she was an anthropologist, and feminist anthropology had a HUGE impact on feminism in the 60's and 70's. You have to remember that people felt that "women were biologically inferior" - so there was a real need to show that the "system" of male and female was oppressive, it wasn't just "women are born inferior to men" and "women are feminine because biology forces them to be that way". Anthropologists started showing that different cultures have different "roles" for men and women and it's not universal, and if it's not universal from society to society - it's hard to say it's biology.

It's clear to us today, but it was hard to say back then - it was controversial.

Monique Wittig wrote books in 1964 and 69. "Sex" and "Gender" were both interchangeable words at that time - the concept of there being a "class" of women, or women being a "role" was still new. So that's what she's arguing against: Women are not born to be docile and submissive.

Much later - you have transfeminist Julia Serrano come in the picture. She argues that "females" do not face oppression, "feminine" people do. Women are defined by being "feminine", and "feminine" people are oppressed. Thus - butch women are less oppressed than feminine men. "Woman" should be defined by "femininity" and man by "masculinity" and those that are neither don't need to be either.

There isn't anything wrong with that as a personal explanation of oneself and a search for meaning in one's own life - but it crosses into the political, and the need to define "woman" and women's rights as belonging to "feminine" people, not "females".

It's a regressive point of view that circles back to say that "Women are feminine because they can't help but being born feminine". That's the exact point of view Monique Wittig is fighting against.

First, you have to find out how the author defines words like gender and sex - for instance, I've read a work where "sex" was the word that meant "sex roles" - the roles men and women play in society are socially defined.

So, let's say you're a guy and you post "I like playing video games with female avatars". That's common right? People don't always use the avatar that represents them?

They would refer to that person as being an "egg who hasn't cracked" - meaning - they are transgender because "real men" would never use a female avatar. Any gender non-conforming behavior is "proof" that person is trans - which is backwards from the old view that gender dysphoria was "persistent, insistent, consistent" in "cross gender behavior and statements".

... it is not a part of the vaginal canal, it IS A THE UTERUS. It's the bottom of the uterus! ... I didn't know that, and I don't think everyone knows that.

Fear of being called a "Karen" makes women modify their behavior.

So yes, it's a sexist term.

It's so funny to me that Reddit is claiming TERFs were brigading different women's subs (like r/PCOS and r/pregnancy) like there weren't radfems in those subs to begin with by Irascible-harpy in GenderCritical

It is very confusing. This is the easier explanation:

"TERF" is just a word to mean "this women is working for the devil. If you listen to her, with her wily ways, she'll seduce you into doing the devil's work! Stop, now, while you are still pure! Do not listen to her evil words!"

I was allowed to attend college to get a "Mrs" degree - that is - I was allowed to go to college so I'd be around college-education men, and catch a husband. Afterward, I wouldn't focus on my career - just my husband and children.

A lot of women with degrees are expected to get "Mrs" degrees - not have careers.

Well, a transwoman wrote this book you see, it says "women do not face discrimination for being female". Rather, feminine people face discrimination.

Therefore - all our laws need to be updated to reflect "feminine people" and not "female people".

A TERF is anyone who thinks "female people" might face discrimination too. That's the root of the argument - the rest is just fluff.

[–]Sebell 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It's not liberal feminism - it's transfeminism. Julia Serrano if you want to read up on it.

She argues that women do not face discrimination. Feminine people do. This puts "butch women" above "transwomen" in terms of oppression points.

Next, she argues something or another about adherance to the binary.

Now - most of them have not actually read the source so they can't name it, or articulate it very well, and frankly, it's a lot of drivel. But there are some good summaries out there of her work. But what they are advocating is "transfeminism" - oppression is based on being feminine, or masculine, NOT on being female or male.

Radical Feminism, among other things - is the belief we should change society. Liberal Feminism, among other things, is the belief we should preserve society - and make smaller changes.

I have been doing a lot of feminist reading lately...

I have seen TIMs who care about women and women's rights - they even started a meeting group called "New Narratives". They were harassed, threatened, attempts to DOXX, cancel, get them fired from their jobs - the TRAs use threats of violence to put fear in the minds of anyone who disagrees with them. They could only get 8 transwomen to come:

Not the op of this thread, but one of the things I disliked about GC is the "HE!" comments all the time. (Mods i love you please don't ban me for saying this I'm not a troll).

Look - I 100% understand the philosophy. I fully respect the reasoning, I'll fight for people's rights to misgender (accidentally or philosophically), but it's one of those middle-of-the-road things where I ... I just don't care about pronouns. I have been using they/them for 20 years for both men and women when, in context, the sex of the person in the story isn't central to the story.

I totally get when you can be prosecuted or arrested for misgendering - it becomes much more critical (UK, looking at you). I'm safe in my "MAH FREE SPEACH" American bubble - free speech is a hill Americans WILL DIE ON. I know others aren't as lucky.

The really angry HE HE HE! types of posts actually scare me off and make me not want to participate. And I had more than 10k in karma from GC comments ;)

What's sad is that TRA's invaded PCOS, and the users fought back. And they blocked the users there.

And it was overrun with transwomen. Not transmen.

PCOS is believed to be caused by high testosterone. Transmen take testosterone. Yes, some of the symptoms overlap - the hair loss, the damage to the organs, etc - but the cause is different.

Just want to confirm - at least one of the mods is a Transwoman and doesn't hide it in any way. That individual is also a moderator of TwoXChromosomes.

I would ask "why would someone who never experiences PCOS want to be a moderator of a PCOS community? Shouldn't people with PCOS be the moderators"?

But you all know the answer to that.

ETA - Actually, one of the mods is clearly male, hasn't transitioned (at least of 2 months ago), "hates TERFS and SWERFS" - everything they say is very typical transwoman behavior, but I couldn't find any posting of his pronouns or declarations he is Trans - so, without him declaring his pronouns, I can't be sure what his "gender identity" is - because you can't see gender identity. However, this person is not a "person with the ability to have PCOS".

Transrights was banned? Really? by FuriousPenguin in GenderCritical

[–]Sebell 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Found this about it:

"Background - TransRights was started by Trump supporters as a hate sub (as evidenced by this post stickied by the mods. But obviously if you take .01 seconds to look at the page you can tell it's clearly a hate sub).

I am confident they are deliberately trying to get the sub banned so the sub name "Trans Rights" is no longer available for trans people and allies to use. And even if that wasn't the goal, the outcome would be trans people being denied a sub to promote trans rights as they see fit. The sub should be transferred to at the least a neutral third party (though that would be hard to dictate) or at least made available again."

I found "Queer Women" is being camped on by the people who run Actual Lesbians, and redirects you there. To prevent people from starting a more appropriately named sub.

The Islam sub has a post up that some of the "2000" banned subs were Muslim subs that "includes a lot of subreddits that literally just posted photos of mosques, updates to prayer times and local Muslim celebrations and positive news coming from various locales."

They also claim that subreddits that promote mass killings of Muslims have been left untouched.

I found another place that says againsthatesubreddits targeted them, but the post I found there was just "yay they are banned" with no description why.
