[–]FuriousPenguin 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Let me clarify. I didn't mean you literally were blaming women for getting raped for wearing short clothes. I meant the statement you made is a common Victim Blaming statement. It is what people use as an excuse and when a statement like that comes from a fellow woman men will jump on it and use it to blame the victim. Where I'm from you can't wear swimsuits at the beach. Not safely anyway and not always. You can't easily wear shorts on the street. Even at the gym, if there are men around you're blamed for trying to be a seductress. If men can workout in shorts why can't I? I'm honestly so used to people blaming the victim that I'm hyper sensitive to it. It is solid advice considering how men behave but it reminds me of that picture of that woman, holding a sign, in loose clothes, saying "this is what I was wearing when I was raped. Don't blame my clothes" or something like that. It's so often used to blame women for their assaults that it should stop being used. At this point it's just ammo for the rapists.

[–]FuriousPenguin 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

There are women who've been raped while wearing unisex clothes, loose clothing, unattractive clothing. You were victim blaming by giving that advice. While I agree with the general statement it is up to men to stop raping or assaulting. I'm from a country where 8 month old babies are raped and 80 year old grand mothers are raped. Your comments would not apply to them. Men rape because they can. Not because the woman was dressed well.

The sub is just a user posting what they believe to be an unpopular opinion. People just respond to it. Doesn't legally mean it's an unpopular opinion. There are quite a few opinions I wholeheartedly agree with and completely disagree with. I've not downvoted when I disagreed unless it was misogynistic. I presume others are the same(not with the misogyny but with whatever ticks them off)

I find that terribly weird. Cartoons, to most people, are pure and wholesome fun. Anime included at least if one considers their origins. I cannot stomach the idea it feels like something meant for children is being sexualised. Feels like the same as sexualising children. Not to mention the rising popularity of hentai has imho brought sexualisation into regular anime to the point where I can't find anything innocent and fun to watch. It ruins everything.

I used to bullied for not being girly enough. Short hair, tomboy, sporty and always playing the "rougher" sports. When I read about George from Enid Blyton I got so excited. Imagine if this had happened in that book! I'd have been messed up for life because I've changed completely (except.the hair lol) and I don't want to be a man! But as a kid I'd have been so confused. It's infuriating that kids who can't even vote can decide to take life changing hormones that aren't necessary if everyone was just allowed to feel comfortable in who they are.

Then the new season came out and she said she was a boy. Stopped watching that instant. Literally paused and left the show. There's nothing. Now I'm no longer subbed to Netflix. I'm not paying corps who are interested in erasing us.

You aren't a coward. It's the state of the world. It's like we are in China or North Korea. Only the approved narrative is allowed. Any other behaviour is considered dissidence and people who indulge in it or question the 'mainstream" narrative are targeted. I have an alt account that me and a few other feminist friends use to keep up with what's happening. Most of us work for liberal woke orgs and we can't say anything against them because we'd get screwed. There's no freedom.

I'm a pessimist myself. But even if I wasn't I'd say there's no hope. Unless the left is made to understand that women will say what they want with their votes they will always think of us as doormats and side with TRAs. They'll only stand by women if they lose the women's vote but no one is going to stop voting for them. Hopeless. It's definitely hopeless.

Honestly I never saw racist content on GC (haven't been on Spinster) but then again I was more of a lurker there. I clicked on topics I liked and saved articles and content I was interested in. But I can imagine how difficult it would be to see racist content in a movement that's meant to liberate and improve lives of women. I struggle with racism in my life, be it work or social life so I am sensitive to these issues. But where I come from being a woman is much more difficult than the colour of my skin so I'll be staying to give and receive support. Hopefully there are no racist posts in this GC.

I didn't finish reading Oryx. Honestly I got a little bored. Maybe it's because I first read her for my book club but she was discussed pretty much as a feminist there. Clearly I didn't watch enough of her interviews and focussed more on the books I enjoyed. I might need to see them with new eyes. I thought she was a feminist after finishing her Masterclass. She spoke about how she managed to get published for the first time and it just gave me feminist vibes. Suppose I read between the lines and found something that wasn't actually there.

That sucks. But it's a great idea! Hopefully someone experienced takes the initiative. If not I'll start it up but leave book suggestions upto others.

Is there no space that's left alone! We really need to start this thing up if we want any space that's just ours.

Yes I am. I meant because I used to be a libfem and only got out of that whole mindset this past year. Someone more experienced would be better, right?

I don't align either way. I used to be left till I started noticing them ignoring issues that didn't politically help them/didn't make the right look awful. Now I'm neutral. I don't trust either side, every politician just wants power and the next term and they'll do whatever it takes to make that happen. Anyway both sides don't care about women so what's the point having a side.

I saw that too and had the same reaction. Eye roll is the only response I have these days. They do it because they know how to twist a narrative to play the victim. Women who want to be left alone end up looking like the villains whole they who take everything from people who disagree with them end up looking like the victims. Those who don't bow down to the supreme leaders will get cancelled after all.

I know a few companies here that reward longer working members with shares in addition to other benefits. Does this not happen where you are? Or am I understanding incorrectly?

Mostly it's just various versions of BigChungus. I have no clue what that is so I don't know what to think. But some regular subs got banned. Someone's fungus sub got banned. Think it was just pictures of fungi.

I agree. She looks lovely in it. Today transpeoplearerealpeople was trending. Didn't she tweeting saying she was concerned for their safety? Would she do that if she didn't consider them people? I don't get the drama. It's like the meangirls movie on redbull or something.

Man I admired her from the first word of HP. She's gotten me through so much (her books have) and she's now going to get so many women through all this vitriol. I don't believe in God but I'm seriously praying she's able to hold on while we all join her.

Editing to add : twitter has made this a moment now. Has anyone noticed how twitter only adds dissenting opinions to these moments if they don't want to support it? How cowardly and manipulative.

They'll find something or the other to blame us for, add it to their "rules" and take down the sub. Although I must say a whole bunch of random subs (bird subs, actual birds and fanclub subs) are being taken down so maybe Reddit just wants to die.

I wonder why they're doing it. It's either because too many people are leaving Reddit and they want to make it look like they're growing. Or it's a threat.

He says we are being vitriolic. Someone needs to make a screenshot collage of all the actual violent responses they've sent to her calling for death/demanding a sexual assault be carried out on t*rfs etc so we know who the actual violent ones are.

What are your hopes for the new r/gendercritical site when it is created? by [deleted] in GenderCritical

[–]FuriousPenguin 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't mind transpeople being included if they can play nice. So far all I've seen on GC (didn't know didn't care about this whole agenda before joining GC.) was GCers presenting studies and scientific points and TRAs screaming rape terfs kill terfs. I don't know if they can actually have a conversation without losing it.

I don't get it. People who threaten to rape and kill women who disagree with them are not considered dangerous but people who say, "please don't use my loo" are dangerous? I don't get it.
