That's my take on it. Sony screwed the pooch the whole way. Hello Games is a tiny studio and Sony put them out there with a AAA treatment.

They had a concert, appearances on late night tv, everything. I'm sure as an indie studio it was exciting for them (until the flood), but Sony just saw the $$$ to be made in hype.

Have you played Subnautica? It's a lot like that, placing base structures that snap together and then decorating/adding plants and things. Plants can be grown to generate resources. There is a quest line regarding base building too.

At first you could only make bases at designated locations you would have to find. Now you can build basically anywhere (I've seen underwater bases and bases that look like they are in low orbit, but its just really high up).

You can also get a freighter which then allows you to have more than one starship (park them in the freighter). The frighter can also hold a base and can be summoned in space wherever you go.

Teleporters let you return to your bases from other star systems so you can keep exploring while being able to return to a planet or base you really like.

I play the game once every few years. I set up a server on my computer and then my best friend and I play together until we beat the "bosses".

Usually we find a village and then fortify it while connecting all the buildings like some crazy maze.

Yes. TL;DR at bottom.

For the sake of transparency, I always liked the game, but that's because I played it as a chill exploration game while my baby was napping. I never needed more during that time of fatherhood.

Since then they have massively expanded the game beyond what was ever hyped. Okay, still no giant desert snake, but other than that.

They added base building (which they said wouldn't happen), multiplayer is pretty easy to do (was supposed to be hard to find people), they added a plot that tied into an ARG (which was to build hype around said update).

Yes, Sean lied. But more over, I think Sony made him lie. Their office flooded during development and they lost a lot of data. I think Sony told them to hide the extent of the setback and keep going like everything was fine. Then they ran out of money and time and it was a case of "release now, or never release at all and close the studio."

Since then they have done...3 I think? Major "DLC" updates. All of them free. This next major update called No Man's Sky Beyond is also free update and will be multiple parts. The first is called No Man's Sky Online and we can only assume they are expanding the multiplayer further.

The VR announcement is part of Beyond.

tl;dr they could have pulled an EA and Mass Effect Andromeda, but they didn't. They've been releasing major expansions to the game taking it beyond what was hyped and all expansions are free.

For now that's just how this place works. Each new user is automatically subscribed to every sub. I think the idea is that it increases awareness for subs people might not normally notice.

In your account settings there should be an option to remove all of your subscriptions if you wish to start from a blank slate, but sounds like you took care of it already.

I live in Seattle and honestly didn't get my first driver's license and car until last year at the age of 29.

My work pays for either a bus pass or a parking pass so I use the bus. Traffic sucks so much and the bus has bus lanes for the worst of it.

Had to get the car because my wife was pregnant with our second kid and trying to take both of them on the bus just wasn't going to work.

I gotta say though, reading on my phone is nice. Turn on night mode for yellow light. Use the white text on black background to keep it dim. Plus my progress is saved and synced.

"Have your say" until you say something that doesn't fit the anti-Semitic conspiracy theorist narrative they have going on there. Then the users take away your say.

I think that's one of the ways saidit might be better off. No downvotes means you can't be sent into negative karma and have your posting rights restricted beyond new user rates. And your posts won't be auto hidden.

Another is that this site isn't as afraid of demanding a certain level of etiquette from the users. Even Reddit doesn't care as much about poor behavior by users.

I commented on a refutation of the myth that Monsanto was suing farmers that accidentally planted patented seed and the reply I got was

To be fair (though not much better), it's actually if the woman appears to be under the age of 18 that the title is banned.

Because it's subjective, titles banned more often feature women with petite features including A cups. The result is still them telling some women that their bodies don't look adult enough to be in porn, despite being of legal age.

So no, A cups are still allowed provided the net result isn't the woman looking underage.

I just phrase it as A cups being banned because it's still true that breast size is taken into account when determining if the title will receive classification and that A cups make it more likely to be banned. Also that my wife is an A cup and she finds it disgusting and insulting that they even consider it.

But, you know, "think of the children".

It's the just-world phenomenon. People tend to believe that the world is just and people get what they deserve. They want to believe it is fair, because a world that isn't fair is scary.

In that mindset, poor conditions for inmates are what they deserve because if they were good people they wouldn't be in prison. It doesn't matter if what they did (if anything) actually deserves prison time. They were sent to prison so they deserve it.

Another example: for a culture that almost universally considers rape to be bad, people are more than willing to joke or make light of prison rape. Bad people go to prison, so if they experience prison rape it is okay. Good people won't ever experience that because good people never end up in prison.

If someone believes that stuff and they see posts against it they can't punish the poster by dragging their karma down. Also, they are expected to ignore the post unless they are able to debate in a respectable way.

For instance, I'm very pro-science. I see there is a climate skeptics sub and I just ignore it since I completely disagree with it, but I'm not looking to debate them. I may at some point post something about climate change, or pro-vaccine, or pro-gmo somewhere, but I don't have to worry about getting downvoted into oblivion for doing so.

If you get the chance to try with a controller I'd say give it a shot. Games like Gungeon tend to work better that way (called twin-stick shooters).

For instance, I don't have an Xbox One, but I do have a controller for one that I use with my PC on some games. If I was playing Gungeon on PC it's probably what I would be using. I'm sure mouse aiming works, but I wouldn't want to miss out on 360 movement.

I grew up with Super Smash TV on SNES and before Enter the Gungeon I was playing The Binding of Issac.

I'd recommend starting with the Soldier though. Starting with armor, a passive item that increases weapon charge speed, reduces spread (making shotguns better at range) and increases reload speed, plus one free ammo refill. Well suited for blasting through and learning the bosses.

Are you playing on a console? I also found the game a lot easier when using the Pro controller for Switch.

The response was good for sure. Reading the after-action post is what made me think about the vetting process though.

I was afraid this sub would also get banned if left unmoded so I loged into my account and added new mods to help out.

I did that by going through this subs history and picked about ten users with older reddit accounts who have recently been active here. Four of them said yes so I added FreeSpeechWarrior, GuardiaNES, Farnsworth_The_Dog and NiceBaitMate.

I wouldn't really consider that vetting. At least not well enough to give them the level of mod permissions needed to set the sub as Private. The most basic of mod powers would let them moderate posts and comments but nothing else.

Plus things get super messy when you take Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome into account, people with XY chromosomes but their bodies didn't react to androgens so they developed feminine bodies. That's a male genotype, with a female-like phenotype, and probably a female gender identity (usually they are raised female and only learn something is different when they never get a period). Biology doesn't want to make this easy.

I'm partial to science-fiction stories where most aliens come from worlds that had fewer predators and lower gravity/more idealic weather.
