Life could be better. As for what I've done recently, absolutely nothing. I think that's the problem, but the cycles we sometimes find ourselves in can be hard to break.

As for what I like doing, not much. I occassionally play games, currently playing Team Fortress 2. I sometimes work on my garden when it's sunny, I'm not particuarly a green thumb but I enjoy working on it whilst it's quiet. I uhh, browse this website in hopes of finding new members and... rant about censorship on Reddit :)) I'm also interested in internet privacy, whilst it's good I am starting to value my privacy more - it's also becoming something I enjoy searching about. Currently been looking into Edward Snowden and the things he leaked from the NSA. I might even start using LineageOS on my smartphone but I'm kind of afraid of fucking it up since I'm still new to all of this.

What about you, Laser_Magnum?

Well, I like playing games as well! Currently, I'm trying to not be terrible at Wizard of Legend, Enter the Gungeon (read: Pungeon) and Dead Cells. I love seeing random strangers on the internet be happy. I also really enjoy playing RPGs. I'm currently GM'ing Caravan to Ein Arris for my sister. I've started looking into how to protect my privacy online as well. Do you play RPGs? If not, what are your thoughts on them?

[–]Jesus-Christ 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

I don't play many RPGs if I'm honest, but my favourite game of all time is Elder Scrolls Oblivion. I play a few other games such as Chivalry Medieval Warfare too. As for my thoughts, I can't say I dislike them but the problem is me not being able or having the energy to learn the mechanics of them. It's why I usually play simple ones haha. I wish I was able to enjoy games as much as I did when I was younger, these days I find it hard to get invested into a video game. I'm usually sceptic when I see a new trailer, as opposed to being excited for it. I guess it's fear from being let down, because I've noticed a lot of games these days are over-hyped and regurgitated. There are indie games better than some triple A titles now, it's weird. I'm either losing interest in the hobby all together, or the industry is changing for the worst. Or a bit of both, I don't really know.

Do you like any other genres? What books do you read? I don't read much, but when I did it was usually dystopian fiction. Also, if you're interested in internet privacy I can refer you to a website that offers free and open source alternatives to things. It's pretty interesting even if you aren't gonna use anything from there!

That's pretty interesting. But I wasn't referring to CRPGs. I was referring to tabletop. Have you ever played anything like Pathfinder, Fate, Deadlands, Call of Cthulu, GURPS, etc?

As for other genres, I'm a huge fan of micro-strategy like the original two Fallouts, Tom Francis' previous two games, Heat Signature and Gunpoint, and his upcoming game Tactical Breach Wizards, which I'm super excited for. I'm also a huge fan of roguelikes, as I mentioned before, like Dead Cells, Enter the Pungeon, and Wizard of Legend.

In terms of books, I'm a sucker for some hard Sci-fi, Fantasy, or Sci-fantasy, although I have yet to find something which pulls off that last one well, so I decided to just write one for fun. You know that they say, necessity is the mother of invention! I guess I'm also a pretty big fan of soft Fantasy, since I'm currently fighting the Poetic Edda. Classical Urdu literature is also really awesome.

The indie market is definitely where you should look for good games. Lootboxes have led to me losing pretty much all hope in AAA, but indie continues to push out beauties like Hyper Light Drifter and Cuphead.

Thanks for the website! My brother and I always say, "If it ain't free and open-source, it's botnet."

I've been playing Enter the Gungeon on the Switch after my kids go to sleep. I still have a lot to do and learn in the game.

Killed the past for 3 of the starting characters though. Working on the hunter now.

HOW? I can't even get past Gatling Gull! Also, I only play prisoner because I get hit more often than Lalatina from KonoSuba.

[–]Farseli 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I grew up with Super Smash TV on SNES and before Enter the Gungeon I was playing The Binding of Issac.

I'd recommend starting with the Soldier though. Starting with armor, a passive item that increases weapon charge speed, reduces spread (making shotguns better at range) and increases reload speed, plus one free ammo refill. Well suited for blasting through and learning the bosses.

Are you playing on a console? I also found the game a lot easier when using the Pro controller for Switch.

I'm PC Master Race through and through, ever since our dad got us that Pentium 4 with 512MB RAM, and we played LEGO Star Wars and Indiana Jones and Conquer's Bad Fur Day, and Super Meat Boy all day. Good times. Also, I just never felt comfortable with a controller, but my hands fit on a keyboard and mouse like I was born with the damn things in my hands.

[–]Farseli 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

If you get the chance to try with a controller I'd say give it a shot. Games like Gungeon tend to work better that way (called twin-stick shooters).

For instance, I don't have an Xbox One, but I do have a controller for one that I use with my PC on some games. If I was playing Gungeon on PC it's probably what I would be using. I'm sure mouse aiming works, but I wouldn't want to miss out on 360 movement.

[–]Laser_Magnum[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Mouse aiming provides 360° degree movement, in my opinion to a greater extent than controllers. I've spent my whole life with Keyboard and Mouse, so my hands feel really weird when holding a controller. It also just feels like it adds an extra layer between me and the game. But yeah, I definitely do need to get a controller, not just for twin-stick shooters, but also for DmC 3 and Co-Op in Pungeon and Wizard of Legend.

Day in and day out, working in tech and taking care of the kids. 3 year old son and 10 month old daughter.

Just finished Kingdom Hearts 3 a few days ago so I'm having to think of what I'll play next for wife to watch.

Probably set up a PSP emulator and play the Star Ocean 2 enhanced port.

The main thing I'm playing lately is the Resident Evil 2 Remake, but she may or may not feel like watching that.

[–]Farseli 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I can neither confirm nor deny that the RE2 remake is why my 3 year old keeps saying X gon give it to ya.

[–]Laser_Magnum[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

I'm planning on starting RE4 in a bit. Been putting it off way too long. Got it from a friend today, gonna install it now.

[–]VantaFount 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

If this is the first time you've played RE4 you're in for one helluva ride. I've put something like 400 hours into that one title.

My brother played it years ago. Our GPU caused a graphical glitch which led to Silent Hill-esque fog everywhere, and he couldn't dodge the boulder, so he stopped playing. For years, he thought that's just how the game was, and years later did he find out it was a GPU glitch.

[–]VantaFount 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

You might be pleased to know that there's a very similar bug for people modding RE2R; The ending scene may show the protagonists walking on nothing but ethereal fog toward a sun.

[–]Laser_Magnum[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Actually, yes. That's pretty hilarious! I'm gonna have to look up some clips of that.

I've heard Lisa is utterly heart-wrenching and hits way too close to home for anyone who's been a victim of domestic abuse. I've been wanting to play it, but haven't been able to work up the courage.

[–]VantaFount 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I was just using the chatroom feature of the site, but it's currently giving me Error 521

Same. Until it's up again, I'm always listening!

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

I'm working on inventing a new type of unbreakable pipeline

[–]magnora7 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Go on... like an oil pipeline?

[–]Laser_Magnum[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

That sounds really interesting! What aspect of it are you working on (chemistry, geography, physics, etc.)?

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

the chemistry of it and what it is to be made of and the lining of it. Top minds have already figured out the geography and physics of pipelines really but there are ways to improve the materials

[–]Laser_Magnum[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

If the existence of synthetic materials has taught me one thing, it's that there's always ways to improve materials.

Where is the pipeline, and what for? Also, what got you into chemistry in the first place?

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I don't want to say too much but I had patented a process back in college and while working for a firm I started my own company, then another firm bought it and I work for them and the process may or may not help to improve pipeline safety, need trials to prove it first.

[–]Laser_Magnum[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's all super interesting stuff! I hope the process helps improve pipeline safety, a very dry way of saying it I know, but the best way I could think of. How old were you when you started the company? Sounds like you've been pretty successful in life so far, and I hope you continue with the same amount of success, if not more.

Also, sorry if my last comment came off as creepy, I really didn't intend it that way.

Well, I got my dream job (or in the field of) so I can now start climbing that ladder. I also moved out for the first time!

[–]Laser_Magnum[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Awesome! Super happy for you! What was your dream job? Also, I hope you moved somewhere you like, with people you love, and which doesn't provide too many financial or commute-related difficulties.

[–]BackwardsCompatible 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I am going into Information Security. The job market for that is always growing and I find the concepts very interesting.

As for moving, its a few hours away from "home hom", but the drive doesn't feel unreasonable. Its almost like Animal Cross IRL except I have a job. My apartment is pretty much empty lol

[–]Laser_Magnum[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Sounds super interesting! I'm glad you found an apartment that's not too far from you "home hom" as you put it!

[–]BackwardsCompatible 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I typoed and meant "home home" to differentiate between there and apartment but I'll own it lol

And ty

I'm just very happy for you! I hope you go far in your career and always enjoy your job!
