Illinois proposes $1K annual registration fee for electric cars by dcjogger in news

Well, it makes sense. They're not paying fuel taxes that presumably go towards maintaining the roads that they're using.

Kind of disincentives owning EVs though, which is unfortunate.

Are all users subscribed to newly created subs, or only new users? by Starlight_Fire in SaidIt

I found the answer. I believe only new users are subbed to all subs when they join, existing users will not be subbed.

This is refreshing to see.

It's honestly kind of absurd how much the US military spends on advertising... All of the Jets flying over stadiums, the constant TV ads, the recruiting stations, providing expensive equipment for military movies (but only if they show the military in a positive light )

What is a word that you find beautiful, whether in definition or in pronunciation? by Starlight_Fire in AskSaidIt

I always found the word "melanoma" to be strangely beautiful sounding. I think if it didn't already have it's (awful) definition, that it would be a really pretty name for a girl.

Did you use public transportation in your city/town? by Vulphere in AskSaidIt

[–]Starlight_Fire 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

A bit of a late reply, but I thought I'd offer my apparently unique experience!

Public transportation in the Western States is severely lacking. My city doesn't have any form of trains/subways, and our buses...leave a lot to be desired. Your home could be miles from the closest bus stop.

Everything is so spread out here that it's unlikely that most people live within walking distance of their work.

So, I drive my car everywhere.

Reddit banned eating disorder support group subs. by Starlight_Fire in MeanwhileOnReddit

[–]Starlight_Fire[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I believe the person who created the sub long before had made it to be like that (encouraging of EDs), but other mods had taken over. In the years I was a part of that sub, it was always the rule that you couldn't promote or glorify EDs.

If the Reddit admins took even a moment to look at the sub & not just the title, they would see it was just a support group.

I do believe the title (not the content) was the reason it was banned. Reddit didn't offer for the title to be changed, or give any warning. They just banned a support system of 30k+ people who were then scattered and possibly not able to find alternatives.

There’s another push to keep bars open until 4 a.m. Here’s why this one could work. by cmdrrockawesome in California

As a Nevadan, alcohol laws are always weird to me. We basically have none:

-No last call

-No ABV limits (I'm looking at you, Utah)

-Alcohol can be sold anywhere at any time of day (No Sunday or early morning restrictions)

I'm not sure what effect this has on drunk driving. I assume that in Cali, all of the cops are out at 2am looking for drunk drivers.

When cops seize property, due process is lacking by dcjogger in news

If any politicians ran on a ticket of eliminating civil forfeiture, I would vote for them in a heartbeat.

It's one of the most absurd and corrupt laws in our country. There have been cases where a person is deemed innocent, but their property/money is kept by the police as it's held to a higher burden of proof.

I didn't even know cashless shops were a thing. Doesn't money say something to the effect of "for all debts, public and private"?

Though, I suppose there would be no debt if they just refused the transaction.

It's so hard for me to watch these because I know my dog would run & bite, so an officer would definitely shoot my girl...

I'm very much a solo-gamer. I just find the experience to be more relaxing than the stress of working in teams.

One of my favorite games is Stardew Valley. I love the art style, the simplicity, the no-rush open world gameplay.

I also love city builder/managing type games. I've been casually playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (for the first time! I know I'm late to the party). I'm really enjoying that.

I know I'm probably a more casual gamer than most of you, but if anyone has recommendations of similar games, I'd love to hear!
