😂 eurobro needed to mention the additional trauma of being called the dreaded man in a dress, seemingly on par with the threat of assault. Not a radical feminist, but

The narrative-assumption is that only radfems oppose the religion of Genderism, sure. While I'm not strictly a radfem, I agree with many (if not all) of their viewpoints and arguments in that of the pejoratively-called "grievance studies", I believe that (2nd/4th-wave) feminists are the only such discipline that have objective, un-refutable concerns.

That being said, although radfems are the boogyman (*boogywoman) of choice for TRAs, its a farce to believe that criticism (or outright detraction) of gender ideology need necessarily come from a radfem perspective, and I think we've seen that perspective become more widely-acknowledged in radfem-GC circles as they've continued to accrue allies from across the political spectrum in the effort to expel gender nonsense from policy discussions.

Full disclosure, I lean right politically and read Breitbart often enough - in the past 5 years I've yet to see anything reported by Breitbart or Tucker Carlson that warranted a retraction.

Sure, they have an underlying opinion formed from their world views, but I haven't seen it impact the objectivity or integrity of the reporting the way that the "reputable" outlets like NYT/CNN/MSNBC/Guardian do, or let alone the fictionalizations pushed by activist outlets like Stale/Vox/Intercept.

We've somehow come to the point where basic truths have been deconstructed, where people can no longer agree on heretofore-universally-agreed-upon concepts like biological sex - I've realized that whatever their biases, the right-wing outlets at least report THE truth and not "someone's" truth.

[–]jjdub7 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Humans are the only animals that create/invent "social constructs."

I'd argue that other social mammals (i.e. dogs and dolphins and the other great apes) also have socially-constructed roles (e.g. pack leader), though aligned to a more "classical" axis of power driven by biology and development (wherein older, more experienced members of the pack sit atop the social hierarchy.

However, in contrast to the types of created/invented/semantic social constructs which humans impose upon each other inorganically, the types found in animal species are [let's call it] inherited, in that they're assumed via consensus among all members and are intent-agnostic.

Only humans are distractible, gullible, and certain individuals frankly stupid enough to fall for the propagandistic, intent-antagonistic type of social engineering bullshit that is TWAW.

The genital preferences BS was what first peaked me upon learning that no, it was not satire, and these people are actually spewing this rapey bullshit in pursuit of a "more socially-just" society.

Yeah, I've gotten the general sense that lesbians seem to be presented with unique horrors by the whole ideological shift, and as such, tend to be more peaked on average. Gay men mostly stand to lose nothing, so it's just another social justice issue to buy into and signal support for to most of them.

(4) the term "gender identity" means actual or perceived gender-related characteristics;

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the circular "gender-related characteristics" is defined precisely nowhere in the bill, either?

Edit: yep, of course it isn't, nor is "gender" itself, which is particularly concerning, since

(2) Offenses involving actual or perceived religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.-

(A) In general.-Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, in any circumstance described in subparagraph (B) or paragraph (3), willfully causes bodily injury to any person or, through the use of fire, a firearm, a dangerous weapon, or an explosive or incendiary device, attempts to cause bodily injury to any person, because of the actual or perceived religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability of any person-

omits any mention of 'sex' entirely. I guess it's not a hate crime if you murder someone based on their sex, but it is if based on their gender?

What a clown world, smh

This is why, despite her very many flaws, I am glad we have Margorie Taylor Greene in Congress. The woman utterly and vehemently rejects gender ideology, and she has even less of a filter than Trump.

If nobody else is going to take action against genderism on Capitol Hill, then yes, I will absolutely take at least one compulsively screaming "TRANS WOMEN ARE MEN" at inappropriate times.

being able to romanticize or idealize something that is sexual, but safe

Yeah, the brief discussion on that thread delves a bit into yaoi, and whether it negatively impacts gay men. It's something I roll my eyes at, but not something that legitimately alters or distorts societal perceptions of gay men, certainly not in the way that made-for-men lesbian porn does.

I 'get' the allure of the portrayed safety of the relationships in yaoi, though they're largely a total fiction worlds away from the realities of gay dating and the circuit/party scene and other highly-sexualized gay men's spaces.

What I find sad about this is that so many young women who consume such media don't feel that they could ever find "safety" with a straight man. My parents have been happily married for over 40 years and started dating when they were teenagers. I think it's the cultural shift (increased sexualization, decreased emphasis on family, etc.) we've seen over that time period which has lowered the bar of expectations when it comes to dating and self-perception.

still pro-QT, no. I wouldn't respect her, so that's a non-starter.

Yeah, this is kind of where I am with it, honestly - done playing magical thinking (love that phrase, use it all the time to describe T ideology) and therapist to what's shown itself to be the most obnoxious and entitled group of adult children on the planet. I have more productive things to actually do in life than signal my pretend support for a pretend marginalized social group, whose "characteristic" has nothing to do with my sexuality.

As for the unwillingness, I think most of the people who re/act this way (i.e. stubbornly continue to support despite being shown the Geiger counter because "there are worse things than radiation") do so in a way that involves conscious choice/ignorance and some level of self-satisfaction. Without commenting too much further on social justice generally, I've seen this attitude pop up again and again in that context - "it doesn't matter if this causes damage, I've been told that holding these beliefs is virtuous" - and I cannot stand that as a worldview.

my dating strategy...like to get to know people organically

Agreed 100%, though this isn't really a...priority...for most gay men. Bumble's probably the best bet for gay guys. I know HER was originally the go-to for lesbians, but its packed with more penises than Grindr these days.

An old friend, the first person I ever came out to, is this stubborn when it comes to several left issues. Even when presented with incontrovertible evidence that X has, in fact, turned out to be a horribly shitty liberal policy, rather than admitting her support for it was wrong or misguided, she goes silent in a way that almost feels like she's doubling down instead. So frustrating - these people are the only reason this shit hasn't crumbled yet.

This paints a terrifying picture of what this woman faces on a daily basis.

Hooven said she teaches about hormones and sex differences, and mentioned actual physical differences between males and females, such as the production of eggs and sperm.

This sentence in particular is seemingly so innocuous, but the word "actual" belies the atmosphere, pointing us to the taboo and verboten nature of even mentioning the dark arts of reproductive science and endocrinology on what was once the world's most liberal campus.

Chris Chandler is very obviously mentally ill, and it has been obvious for quite some time. I've been of the opinion that he has a demonstrably-reduced agency in many (if not most) aspects of his life, as demonstrated by the numerous antics he's committed directly in response to such suggestions.

This isn't a systemic claim of blaming women for men's actions. I don't believe that she's responsible, but she's certainly culpable in that she saw very fit to step into the void of agency with her own agenda.

This has echoes of Michelle Carter/Conrad Roy - another individual case in which there was an almost hypnotic effect of repeated suggestion which played a central role in the events that transpired.

The proposed US "infrastructure" bill has a price tag that's something like 25-35% of the already-existing total national debt. This is going to be a a further driver of the current 5% inflation we're seeing right now. Did you get at least a 5% raise this year?
