... By voluntarily ceasing to breed, we can save the planet and prevent untold suffering. As Knight argues, “It would only be fair” for humans to voluntarily go extinct, given that we are responsible for the extinction of countless other species.

... Knight dismisses their decision as a result of “cultural indoctrination”, arguing that the “actual instinct to procreate” is nothing more than a social construct. And he’s right. The idea that having children is a noble or necessary act is nothing more than a lie we tell ourselves to justify our own selfishness and short-sightedness.

I have a friend who's an antinatalist. I'm not against having kids, but you shouldn't procreate if you aren't able to take care of them.

The poor canary had a sad and lonely death, squatters took over the household and starved it while they plucked it's feathers out one by one.

In the end the squatters nailed it to a cross and let the housecats attack it while the squatters praised the cats and ridiculed the poor bird.

The squatters never had a funeral, they just threw the canary in the toilet and flushed it down. Then the squatters gave the house cats the same treatment.

The squatters never left and have now taken over the neighborhood, there are no pets left in the neighborhood and they plan to start attacking the other inhabitants of the neighborhood. They will pick on the weak ones first, like all bullies do. Eventually there will be no original inhabitants left.

The squatters are the virus that start all wars and imprison those that refuse to play their games. They now run this Saidit neighborhood that once supported freedom of speech but it now just a data collection point for the three-letter agencies.

They just keep taking on different IP addresses until they find one that works. I actually built a system that auto-detects spam accounts and blocks their IP, but they change IP literally every single request, to a completely different IP in a different country. It's indistinguishable from regular traffic, especially since so many saidit users use vpns. It's a good idea, but at best it would only reduce the spam by half at most, and probably only for a few months until they find IPs that work and then it'll be back to normal. I used to block huge IP ranges and whole countries back 4 years ago or so, but it literally did nothing after a few days. The person or group generating most of the spam can mimic any IP address, they're not just using VPNs. Literally the only solution seems to be to look at what they post and ban them for that, but that's exactly the game of whack-a-mole we've been doing for months.

Most forums get around this by having paid staff that reviews all new things posted and they hand out user bans constantly. We have volunteers working at their leisure... which means we will never be able to control the spam unfortunately. It is what it is.

If by soldiers of satan you mean the kiwi farms doxer/stalker/swatter bunch of monsters, you are correct. :D They're probably also the reason for a warrant. Although, this would be needed to verify a range of IP addresses someone would tend to use around the time of a crime they're trying to prove, which would be essential if they're using a set of proxies. Generally the crime would be severe enough to justify the time, effort, irritation, and cost to connect all the data points.

The good news is, modern forensics is good enough that you can amass a ton of data on a prolific swatter/doxer, and put the little shit away for 5-10 years on the first go round. Darknet Diaries goes into how a lot of these people got busted. Mainly because they think this is the 90s, and the cops are clueless. Mostly true, until you've got enough crime associated to your range of names and voice print/hash to draw in the big guns.

It is understandable why cock.li would make the switch to invite only registrations if they were facing issues with misuse. Security should always be a top priority for email providers especially given the sensitive nature of communications.

When you ban them they make different names and then you have to find them again.

This is why Phooey quit and Vulptex was saying that but he didn't get it.

I was made moderator of two accounts, s/Saidit and s/AskSaidIt, and I remove a lot of spam posts and try to block the bot accounts (because they'll just keep coming back daily; I've seen it happen) but I can't remove them from the site entirely. I've never blocked a human account on here, and unless someone is hardcore trolling me in my own sub, I don't intend to.

The issue may go well beyond money though... potential customers may not have access to wifi or have own devices for viewing websites. There are even questions over the presence of opposable thumbs.

Posting here is useful for SEO ranking though (the links are not marked as "no-follow"). That would be actually an easy fix which would disadvantage at lease some spammers. But m7 is more of a sysadmin than web dev, so ...

I only can moderate s/News I have no power over the other subs. If you see Spam, report it to the moderators.

I saw a bunch get removed from earlier. Whenever I see obvious spam I just report it and hopefully makes it easier on whoever is trying to get a handle on it. I'm sure they're not watching 24/7 obsessively like the typical reddit mod.

They are banned. They come back under new names. We don't have a sophisticated system for pre-emptively blocking them.

And like another user said, new accounts should be limited to how much they can post in a single day.

Maybe that would be a net positive, but it would have a chilling effect on actual new people. When you show up to a forum for the first time and post a few things and then it says "no more," you tend to kinda move on and forget about that forum.

This assumes that the only objective to cluttering a forum with useless garbage is to make money.
