It used to be a fairly niche issue that trans people wisely kept out of the public eye due to backlash. Once the gay rights movement succeeded and the activism moved on though the annoying exhibitionist fags that get their rocks off to being naughty in public much to the chargin of normal gay people found that merely being gay wasn't gay enough anymore to get enough public spankings they had to find novel ways of maintaining inappropriate erections. Making a big deal out of using the wrong restroom is one of those.

Way back when normal transpeople who aren't exhibitionist just used whichever restroom matched their equipment/appearance and were discreet about it so there were few problems. Exhibitionists who were problems quickly got "dealt with" extra legally in the way that could only happen before everyone was always carrying a camera.

Now the Exhibitionists play this game where they claim victim hood so they can shit all over anyone. It's a temporary success, it leads to increasing backlash and eventually will I think lead to a complete cultural reversal on these issues, whether this echoes back to a reversal on gay marriage remains to be seen but any sort of alternative gender law already seems poised to revert back all changes made during the 20th century; unfortunately I think the backlash tends to ignore the edge cases that led to people initially considering why we had such provisions in the first place and that will just lead to society forgetting and repeating these same mistakes as we have seen several times throughout history I think. Though never to the same scale as we now see with social media documenting it. But given as how there's so much information and even things on the internet 5 or 10 years ago are easily forgotten I think we are unfortunately poised for the blowback to go back to a very simplistic reactionary position of simply disregarding all the issues as nonsense, which is true in most cases, but it will fail to properly identify why these issues came about in the first place. For example we do understand I think correctly that trans issues function as a social contagion but that's only part of the story as there are people who do identify as trans regardless of social connection as pre internet identification shows.

I think social media will largely be understood as one of the vectors for why more people are exposed to and identify as trans than they used to, they see the issue more, makes them think about it, and do feel motivated to come out themselves when they see others doing it. But the trans people.say these feelings always existed and that I think is also true to some extent as the social contagion tends to order and give a voice to feelings that many people already had that might not have come to a trans identity if they had not been introduced to it. But some would have.

If this was merely the realm of teenagers talking about their feelings I'd have little concern over it but the combination with the medical industry seeing a clear profit motive in promoting it I think it is well described as essentially a voluntary mass sterilization of gay people. The issue I think that will come next here is a reevaluation of why medical interventions are at all necessary and we will likely see bans on all forms of medical treatment towards gender dysphoria at all ages and a focus more on psychological treatment as there doesn't seem to me to be a clear scientific link towards any material benefits of the surgery beyond a tenious link to a decrease in suicidal action when doesn't seem to be maintained after the treatment in finished.
