President Biden pardons his son Hunter Biden by neolib in news

[–]tradecoder 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yep - and Trump asked for Russian hackers to get Hillary's and Hunter's online data, along with the data of others.

It was thanks to Trump and Russian hackers that Hunter's private emails and photos at his iCloud account were published.

Anyone on the Hill with the usual clearance to receive sucurity updates at the appropriate times would know this and would appreciate Biden's comment that his son was targeted, for two misdemeanours that normally result in fines.

In terms of presidential pardons, there is an interesting list of them in US history. Any father should have done this for his son.

As for father-in-laws, Jared Kushner should have been investigated for his receipt of $2 billion from Saudi Arabia, and the national secrets (as well as nuclear secrets, as some have claimed?) he sold SA, as well as what Jared gave the Chinese who spent billions on Kushner properties

Yes, I can provide historical information about presidential pardons in the U.S. Presidents have used this power, granted by the Constitution (Article II, Section 2), to pardon individuals convicted of federal crimes or to commute their sentences. Here's a summary of key moments in the history of presidential pardons:

1. Early Use

  • George Washington issued the first pardons in 1795, granting clemency to participants in the Whiskey Rebellion.
  • John Adams pardoned individuals involved in the Fries Rebellion.

2. Civil War and Reconstruction

  • Abraham Lincoln frequently used pardons to foster reconciliation during the Civil War.
  • Andrew Johnson issued broad amnesties to former Confederate soldiers and officials during Reconstruction.

3. Famous 20th-Century Pardons

  • Warren G. Harding pardoned Eugene V. Debs, a socialist leader jailed for opposing World War I.
  • Gerald Ford granted a controversial pardon to Richard Nixon for any crimes he may have committed during the Watergate scandal.
  • Jimmy Carter pardoned thousands of Vietnam War draft evaders in 1977.

4. Controversial Modern Pardons

  • Bill Clinton issued 140 pardons on his last day in office, including one for Marc Rich, a fugitive financier. This was criticized for its apparent ties to political donations.
  • Donald Trump granted pardons to high-profile figures like Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, and others connected to his administration.

Patterns and Criticisms

  • Presidents often issue pardons near the end of their terms.
  • Pardons have sometimes sparked accusations of favoritism, political motivations, or abuse of power.

The United States is the only country in human history with freedom of speech

The concept of freedom of speech has existed in varying forms throughout human history, but its implementation has been uneven and context-dependent. Below is a historical overview:

Ancient Civilizations

  1. Athens (5th-4th centuries BCE):

    • Classical Athens is often credited with pioneering free speech, or parrhesia, which means "frank speech." Citizens (excluding women, slaves, and non-citizens) had the right to speak freely in the Assembly and other public forums.
    • Despite this, speech could still be restricted, particularly if it was deemed harmful to the state or religiously offensive (e.g., Socrates was executed for corrupting youth and impiety).
  2. Roman Republic and Empire:

    • Romans valued libertas (freedom), which included some aspects of free expression, particularly for senators and elites.
    • However, during the Empire, emperors often suppressed dissent, and criticism of the emperor could lead to exile or execution.

Pre-Modern Societies

  1. Islamic Golden Age (8th-13th centuries):

    • In the Abbasid Caliphate, intellectual freedom thrived in fields like philosophy, science, and literature, particularly in centers like Baghdad.
    • However, this was not absolute, as religious orthodoxy could limit freedom of expression.
  2. Medieval Europe:

    • Speech was heavily controlled by monarchs and the Church. Dissenting ideas, especially against religious doctrine, were often punished harshly (e.g., heretics during the Inquisition).
  3. Pre-Colonial India:

    • Philosophical traditions like Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism fostered intellectual debate, but social hierarchies and religious orthodoxy could limit expression.

Early Modern Period

  1. Dutch Republic (17th century):

    • The Netherlands was known for its relatively liberal stance on freedom of the press and speech compared to neighboring monarchies. Cities like Amsterdam became hubs for publishing banned works.
  2. England (17th century):

    • The English Civil War (1640s) and the Glorious Revolution (1688) brought ideas of press and speech freedoms to prominence. The 1689 English Bill of Rights provided some protections, but libel laws and sedition charges remained tools of suppression.

Modern Period

  1. United States (18th century onward):

    • The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution (1791) explicitly enshrined freedom of speech and press, becoming a global reference point for free expression.
  2. France (Revolutionary Era, 1789):

    • The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen guaranteed free speech and press, although political shifts during and after the Revolution often curtailed these freedoms.
  3. 19th and 20th Centuries:

    • Countries like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and many European nations gradually adopted protections for free speech, often inspired by Enlightenment ideals and democratic movements.
    • However, limitations often persisted through colonialism, war, or authoritarian regimes.

Contemporary Period

  1. Post-World War II (Universalization):
    • The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) declared freedom of speech as a fundamental human right (Article 19).
    • Democracies worldwide, such as in Europe, India, Japan, and South Africa, enshrined free speech in their constitutions.
    • Despite legal protections, freedom of speech remains constrained in many places due to political, social, or economic pressures.

Limitations Across Time

Even in societies that valued free speech, limitations were common: - Blasphemy laws in religiously dominated societies. - Censorship during wartime or under authoritarian regimes. - Social norms that discouraged controversial opinions.

Freedom of speech has evolved significantly, with its fullest realizations seen in modern constitutional democracies. However, it has always been shaped by cultural, political, and historical contexts.

The Nazi Book Burnings The German Student Union (the DSt) conducted a campaign, called The Nazi Book Burnings, to ceremonially burn books in Nazi Germany and Austria in the 1930s. The books viewed as being subversive or representing the ideologies opposed to Nazism were targeted for The Nazi Book Burnings. It included books written by Jewish, classical liberal, socialist, anarchist, religious, pacifist and communist authors. Karl Marx and Karl Kautsky’s books were among the first to be burned.

On 6th May 1933, the German Student Union organised an attack on Magnus Hirschfeld’s Institute of Sex Research. The library and archives including about 20,000 books and journals were hauled out publicly.

On 10th May 1933, in the square at the State Opera, Berlin, the students burned more than 25,000 volumes of ‘un-German’ books. In many other university towns, nationalist students conducted torch lit parades against the un-German spirit. Students threw the banned books into the bonfires at the meeting places with great joyous ceremony.

Following are few of the most popular and important literary works that were burned in the course of The Nazi Book Burnings during second world war with tremendous scorn and despise.

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway The book was set against the backdrop of WWI. The story is about a love affair between an American expatriate Frederic Henry and an English nurse Catherine Barkley. The book was based on Hemingway’s own experiences in the Italian campaigns during WWI and it is considered one of the best literary works depicting the war.

How I Became a Socialist by Helen Keller Despite of her inability to see, hear or speak, Helen Keller became an author and a prominent voice in education. She has been an inspiring figure for a lot of reasons. Hellen Keller was a member of the Socialist Party and became leading humanitarian of 20th century. She was also a co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Her book ‘How I Became a Socialist’ is a radical essay about her thoughts and ideologies. It appeared in the New York Call, a daily newspaper of the Socialist Party on 3rd November 1912.

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque All Quiet on the Western Front was originally written in German and the Author Erich Maria Remarque was a German veteran of WWI. The book depicts how German soldiers were physically and mentally stressed during the war. Soldiers were also detached from the civilian life and it haunted many of those soldiers for a long time. That’s the obvious reason why the book was not well received by the Nazi government and burned during The Nazi Book Burnings.

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells It’s a science fiction novella which popularized the concept of time travel. Using a vehicle protagonist travel forwards or backwards in time, purposely and selectively. The book was narrated as a time traveler’s first-hand account of his journey beyond his own era.

The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka The Metamorphosis is one of the best-known works of Franz Kafka. It’s a short novel which follows salesman Gregor Samsa. One morning, he woke up and startled when he found himself transformed into a huge insect therefore he was struggling to adjust to this new condition. The book was well-received and criticized with differing interpretations.

War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells Another sci-fi that was burned by Nazis during that period was ‘War Of The Worlds’ by H G Wells. It is one of the first stories in literature which details the conflict between human and extra-terrestrial species. The story is narrated in first-person perspective of two characters – one is an unnamed character from Surrey and another is his younger brother living in London. The scientist Robert H Goddard, who invented liquid-fuelled and multi-stage rocket, was influenced by this work of H G Wells.

Another classic science-fiction book by H G Wells, An Invisible Man, was also burned during The Nazi Book Burnings. This entertaining and nerve-wracking book represents a piercing look into the human nature.

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway After ‘A Farewell to Arms’, this is Hemingway’s another book which was burned by Nazis. The story is about a group of expatriates from America and Britain. They visit the Festival of San Fermin in Pamplona to watch the running of the bulls and bullfights. The book represents a touching look at the disillusionment and deep anxiety of the post-WWI generation.

The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels German philosophers wrote this political pamphlet, The Communist Manifest, representing their ideas of Communism. It’s one of the most important political theories ever constructed and they envisioned a classless or stateless society. Furthermore, They proclaimed that the exploitation of workers will eventually lead to a revolution which will overthrow the Capitalism.

A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley This dystopian classic is set in a futuristic world of an intelligence-based social hierarchy and genetically modified citizens. The book delves into huge scientific progressions in reproductive technology, sleep-learning and psychological manipulation.

The other famous books were Ulysses by James Joyce, War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and Mother by Maxim Gorky which were burned during The Nazi Book Burnings.

MAGATs are still obsessed with assumptions that non-MAGATs are crying. Seems MAGATs have nothing to celebrate, and instead want to whine about potentially crying MAGATs, though it's obvius that non-MAGATs are merely annoyed with a number of failures in the US. Instead of getting turned on about the myth of suffering among non-MAGATs, MAGATs should be discussing how awesome Trump Admin's approaches will be (though we know all of the approaches will be disasters).

It sounds like you're frustrated with the way certain political factions communicate, especially around assumptions and misinterpretations. There’s a pattern where each side may often focus more on critiquing or ridiculing the "suffering" of the other side instead of discussing constructive plans or policies. This dynamic does indeed seem to distract from more substantial discussions, such as the real impacts of various policies or ways to address current challenges in the U.S.

For productive political discourse, it could help to focus on transparent plans and actual policy details. That way, citizens on all sides can debate ideas based on facts rather than on assumptions about each other’s feelings or intentions.

The scenario you’re describing would indeed involve serious legal and ethical questions. In situations where someone has a duty to warn others about a dangerous threat, like a lion attack, deliberately failing to do so could be viewed as gross negligence or even reckless endangerment, depending on the specific circumstances and local laws.

In many jurisdictions, there are laws around duty of care—when someone has a responsibility to protect or warn others due to their role or position. If someone knowingly puts others in harm's way, especially if it's a job requirement to prevent that harm, they could potentially face criminal charges. This might range from reckless endangerment to, in some cases, more serious charges if there was intent to cause harm.

In a legal context, knowingly allowing harm to occur, particularly if there is evidence of intent (like skipping a warning to one person), could even bring about charges like involuntary manslaughter, or even assault if the intent to cause harm is clear enough. It would likely depend on the prosecutor's case and what they could prove regarding intent and malice.

What are the laws requiring an employer in the United States to check someone's ID to make sure they have permission to work and what are the penalties for not doing this?

ChatGPT said: ChatGPT In the United States, federal law mandates that employers verify the employment eligibility of all employees, regardless of citizenship, to ensure they are authorized to work. This requirement is primarily governed by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA), which introduced rules and penalties related to employment eligibility verification.

Key Requirements: Form I-9 Completion: Employers must complete and retain a Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, for every employee hired after November 6, 1986. The form verifies both the identity and work authorization of the employee.

E-Verify System: Though optional in many places, some states and federal contractors are required to use E-Verify, an online system managed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA), to confirm work authorization status electronically.

Employee Documentation: Employees must provide original documents (such as a U.S. passport, Permanent Resident Card, or combination of documents like a driver's license and Social Security card) within three business days of their start date. Employers must examine these documents for authenticity.

Penalties for Non-Compliance: If an employer fails to comply with I-9 verification requirements, they may face various penalties, which include:

Civil Fines:

For Paperwork Violations: These range from $272 to $2,701 per employee for a first offense. Higher fines apply for repeat offenses. For Employing Unauthorized Workers: Civil fines range from $583 to $23,607 per worker for a first offense, with fines increasing for repeat offenses. Criminal Penalties: Employers who engage in a pattern or practice of knowingly hiring unauthorized workers may face criminal charges, with potential penalties including fines and jail time.

Additional Penalties:

Debarment: Employers convicted of employing unauthorized workers may be prohibited from participating in federal contracts or receiving government benefits. Increased Scrutiny and Audits: Employers who fail to comply are more likely to be subjected to additional audits and investigations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Failure to comply with employment verification laws can be costly for employers, both financially and legally. Therefore, it's critical that all employers in the U.S. adhere to Form I-9 requirements and conduct verification procedures accurately to avoid penalties.

What is it called when someone or a company enables someone to commit a crime? And what are the implications when they enable someone's commit a crime multiple times?

ChatGPT said:

When someone or a company enables another person to commit a crime, this is generally referred to as aiding and abetting, facilitation, or complicity. These terms describe a range of actions where a person or entity provides assistance, resources, or support to enable the commission of a crime.

Key Legal Terms and Definitions: Aiding and Abetting: When someone intentionally helps, supports, or encourages another person in the commission of a crime. Facilitation: When someone provides means or opportunity for another person to commit a crime, often without direct involvement. Complicity: A more general term describing participation or involvement in a crime as an accomplice. Legal Implications: The implications can be serious, and in many jurisdictions, aiding or enabling a crime is treated similarly to committing the crime itself. The penalties often depend on:

The Severity of the Crime: Assisting in a violent or serious crime carries heavier penalties. Intent: If it can be proven that the individual or company knew about and intentionally enabled the crime. Repeat Offenses: If a person or company has facilitated multiple crimes, it could lead to charges of patterned behavior, criminal enterprise, or racketeering (if organized and ongoing support for criminal activities is involved). In cases where a company repeatedly enables crimes, it may face civil penalties, regulatory actions, or criminal charges as a corrupt organization. This can lead to heavy fines, business closure, or more severe sanctions depending on the jurisdiction and the nature of the crimes.

Employers in the United States are supposed to get two forms of ID and they're supposed to verify that you have a social security number and are authorized to work in this country.

Failure to do so has financial and criminal penalties.

All you have to do is crack down on a few and the rest will follow suit.

No problem👍 NPD is a mental illness that is to do with feelings of self-worth and self centuredness. NPD can make you feel like your never wrong and your the main character in a TV. NPD can be problematic to relationships of all kinds because with NPD it's hard to empathize with others or admit your wrong. NPD is hard to live with and hurts the sufferer just as much as anyone else. People with NPD can be problematic the same way someone with the black death would. It's only problematic because a lot of people with NPD struggle to get help for they're disorder

Your spelling looks just fine and you don't seem to have problems just busting into a forum of strangers and talking about your problem in great detail.

I think the best advice that was given to you is that you should get a job.. I don't know the terms of your pension but I think you can still go be a greeter at Walmart and generate a little income that way.

As a person who suffered from mental disorders for most of my life and has spent in excess of 20 years homeless I can promise you that you are never going to find a roommate that is satisfactory and you are not going to like living in your car. In pretty much every one of the 50 states it is a crime to sleep in your car which means that you will have to hide in order to avoid being arrested and that's not even taking into consideration the problem that you will have all of your life's possessions in your car and now all you have to do is go into a store and get robbed or your car will get towed and you'll have to pay large tow fees and storage fees and God forbid your car will break down which it will eventually break down.

Just go down to Walmart and fill out an application you could make an additional 3 to $400 a week.

Problem solved

Just FYI I could tell you how to live for about $300 a month rent and no I'm not talking about living on a boat but I won't tell you because I don't like many of you people.

I now live in my car with my sweet girlfriend and we have the absolute bomb campsite we are completely protected from the rain we have a 20 lb propane bottle and a cooking burner and we have electricity and blah blah blah and we're going to soon have $300 a month rent so put that in your pipe and smoke it.
