Excerpt:

While we cannot create a heaven on earth, we can create a hell and history is full of examples. Many of these man-made hells are the result of war and conquest, but many others are the result of governments persecuting their own people. Be it the Gulags of the Soviet Union, the killing fields of Cambodia, the Nazi concentration camps, the genocide of the Tutsis in Rwanda, or the Cultural Revolution in China, power-hungry political leaders are responsible for the deaths of millions of people in the 20th century.

How much have we learned from these recent horrors? Could a modern democratic government commit a political persecution and kill a portion of its own population? In this video we are going to explore how this risk is high in any society that is naïve and sheepish enough to permit the rise of totalitarian rule.

“. . .the totalitarian hell proves only that the power of man is greater than they ever dared to think, and that man can realize hellish fantasies without making the sky fall or the earth open.”

Hannah Arendt, Origins of Totalitarianism

To achieve its ideological ends a totalitarian government mobilizes all the mechanisms of the state to exert a strict top-down control of the populace, a mass surveillance system is put in place, and all aspects of life become politicized.

In the 20th century Nazism was the ideology that drove totalitarianism in Germany, it was Fascism in Italy, while in Asia and other parts of Europe it was Communism. Today a new totalitarian ideology appears to be taking root. This ideology is built on the belief that at current population levels human beings are parasitic creatures, and if allowed to be free, will run roughshod over mother earth. Harmony can be returned to our planet, and ecological disaster averted, but only if certain politicians and bureaucrats are granted the power to control our lives. What to eat, what type of energy to use, where to work, how to spend one’s recreation time, how many children to have, and where one travels – all these questions are to be answered by the totalitarian ruling class, not by free individuals planning their lives within the law and order of a free society.

“The controlling mind [of the totalitarian] foresees a paradise in which every action and every object is monitored, labeled, and controlled. There will be no room for any bad thing to exist. Nothing and no one will be out of place.”

Charles Eisenstein, Fascism and the Antifestival

Will we in the modern world allow another group of sick minds the opportunity to remake society in the image of a deluded ideology? Will we permit the rise of totalitarian rule? If we do the result will be same as it was in the 20th century, society will be destroyed, poverty will be the norm, and many people will be killed. To understand why every time totalitarianism is tried it devolves into mass killings by the government in power, we must examine the mind of the totalitarian politician and bureaucrat. For when we understand the pathologies that afflict these individuals it will be clear why totalitarians will drive society into ruin before abandoning course and admitting failure.

A first characteristic of the politicians and bureaucrats who make up the totalitarian government is that they are deluded true believers in their ideology. They are convinced, in other words, that what they are trying to accomplish is for the good of humanity and that society would be worse off absent their rule. The totalitarian mind is similar to the schizophrenic mind. It believes the web of delusions in which it is caught; it sticks to its ideological model of the world in the face of disconfirming evidence; and it tends to hate those who try to pierce its illusions.

A second characteristic of totalitarians is that they hold a contemptuous view of the masses and see normal men and women as inferior and incapable of making good choices. For their own good, it follows, and for the good of mother earth, the masses must obey the government. Totalitarians also tend to view the masses as unneeded, in such large numbers, for the realization of their ideological aims and so view whole segments of the populace as useless eaters who are overpopulating the world.

“Only where great masses are [viewed as] superfluous. . .is totalitarian rule. . .at all possible.”

Hannah Arendt, Origins of Totalitarianism

A further characteristic of totalitarians is their tendency to judge moral issues through a utilitarian lens. When making policy decisions, in other words, totalitarians tend to use the criteria of the greatest good, for the greatest number of people as the justification for their actions. Individual rights matter little to the utilitarian, what matters is the good of the collective and to the totalitarian the good of the collective always means achieving its ideological ends. This utilitarian approach to moral issues is reflective of a very disturbed mind, or as Iain McGilchrist explains:

“The tendency to adopt a calculating and utilitarian approach in judging moral issues is more marked in those with reduced aversion to harming others, lower trait empathy, higher psychoticism (which is itself characterised by reduced empathy and emotional blunting). . .and greater Machiavellianism. It is also characteristic of the moral thinking of psychopaths. . .”

Iain McGilchrist, The Matter with Things

A deluded true believer in a utopian ideology, viewing him or herself as a superior being, seeing the world as overpopulated, and judging moral issues through a utilitarian lens, such is the mind of a totalitarian, and such is a mind capable of committing a mass atrocity. After totalitarians have taken power, all that is needed to initiate the process of political persecution is the inevitable failure of their rule. And fail they will, as all attempts to control society in a strict top-down manner are doomed from the start. The more order the totalitarians try to impose on a society the more chaos they create, and with such chaos comes a never-ending series of crises. But when the crises come instead of admitting that the fault lies with their rule, totalitarians deflect blame to others through the process of scapegoating. For as true believers totalitarians never consider the possibility that the crisis is a by-product of trying to force a deluded ideology on society through top-down control. Rather they convince themselves, and strive to convince others, that responsibility for the crisis lies elsewhere.

Chauvin could have just spent more time in his squad car and Floyd would have died before the EMT arrived regardless.

The cause of death was a complication of how he was restrained and his neck was compressed, which stopped his heart. If Chauvin wasn't kneeling on his neck while he passed out and then kept kneeling on his next until he died, he wouldn't have died that day.

When the paying EMT approached, they didn't let her help. Probably Floyd was already dead by then, by Chauvin and his colleagues made absolutely sure.

When he was first running for election I asked my mother-in-law "Who are you voting for?" She answered "Trudeau!" When I asked why her answer was "Because he is SO HANDSOME!"

Sadly, it's people like this that put him in power. I'm not dunking on my mother-in-law, it's simply a reflection of how she and people like her think when it comes to electing people.

Anyway, he is done now. It's just a matter of time. Even the most favorable of polls show him losing by a landslide. Unless the current opposition leaders makes a huge blunder he is a shoe in for the next Prime Minister.

We are in what is called a minority government. It means the government doesn't have 50% of the seats in our house of commons. If they (Trudeaus liberals) put forth legislation and all the different parties gang up and vote against it they will out vote the government and it will force an election right away. The issue is Trudeau is in an alliance with a party called NDP and together they have enough votes to surpass the 50% threshold. Either that alliance fails and we get an early election (This has happened in the past) or we have to wait him out for the next two years...

The "Debt Spiral" End Game | James Lavish by penelopepnortney in WayOfTheBern

[–]penelopepnortney[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

(continued, because of SaidIt's stupid character limits)

The 30-year (Treasury) bond auction we had a few weeks ago was absolutely abysmal and it was a preview of what the Treasury is facing. We're borrowing so much that the likelihood we're going to have a tsunami of debt in the near future is rising every day we run the kind of deficits we have.

The US Treasury and US dollar are the global reserve asset and the global reserve currency, which gives us a very long runway on this debt issue. It doesn't mean it solves it, but it does give the Fed and the Treasury a whole lot of rope to keep playing this game.

The Treasury isn't deciding the spending, they just have to figure out a way to facilitate all this government spending and operate in that budget. The way they've been doing it is issuing debt. So they put out a report in February of this year, it's basically "the state of the Treasury, how we're doing" and the subtitle was "an unsustainable fiscal path." I believe they took it down recently. They showed a chart that showed how quickly debt to GDP was rising. It was a red flag for the government to say, "we can't keep doing this, at some point this breaks and we enter some kind of hyperinflation because of a loss of confidence in our currency."

You look back and when did this start? In 1971, when Nixon officially took us off the gold standard and we got Saudi Arabia to agree to transact the sale of its oil in US dollars. That makes other countries that are energy-dependent have to hold US Treasuries in order to have access to dollars at all times so they can buy that oil. So they sell their Treasuries, get the dollars and buy the oil.

But the world is waking up and you're hearing frustration from countries like Brazil and Saudi Arabia and India and Russia, the BRICS. They don't want to be beholden to the US dollar anymore because they know we're running these huge deficits and have no choice but to have long-term, perpetual, structural inflation. Inflation that we don't admit to, and that's the biggest problem.

We're starting to feel it across the economy, individuals are starting to feel it. Every day there's thousands of videos of people on social media saying "I don't know how people are making it, everything is costing so much. Who has a job that pays them enough to buy food that costs this much, or houses or cars that cost this much?" So it's becoming a problem internally and that's a big red flag for us.

Back in the 80s we had a similar inflation problem but because we were running 30% debt to GDP, Volcker was able to raise interest rates up to 20%. That's not an option now, now we're running debt to GDP of 130%, deficits of about $2 trillion, interest payments of $1 trillion.

The way I look at it is that we're in a debt spiral and we can't get out of it. When you're running such large deficits, what are your choices as a government? Either austerity, which is cutting expenses, but that's political suicide; each party is trying to trick the other into doing something like that because it loses the confidence of their constituents and they lose votes, so neither party is going to do it.

Second, you could raise taxes. But the reality is when you do that you disincentivize investment in those companies; you disincentivize research and development; you disable the ability of companies to expand on their product line, to expand into new products, to hire more people, to pay people more. So even when you raise taxes and get more money in, the revenue is smaller so you end up getting to the same place.

Third, you can issue more debt. When debt matures in this country, we don't have the money to pay back what we borrowed. So we have to issue more debt to have the money to pay the principal back on the earlier debt, and we hope that investor we pay back turns around and invests in the new debt. That's why you're seeing the debt grow and grow. $2.4 trillion in debt we've issued in 5 months.

The other option: you can default on your debt; you can declare you're only going to pay 50% of what you owe - we've seen this happen in countries that have gotten into this debt spiral problem. But why would a country that issues debt in the same currency it can print? You wouldn't. You'd just print more money and monetize your debt.

The last option and the one we're obviously going to implement is a soft default. That's having high perpetual, structural inflation forever. That enables you to grow your GDP nomimally - those are on your fake dollars because now you have more dollars in the system. You've got inflation of prices but there's more money in the system. So those dollars you borrowed 10 years ago on that debt, now you're going to pay that back but you're using dollars that are cheaper, they're worth less because there's more of them out there.

The people who lose are the ones whose real wages aren't really keeping up. So, who is that? It's the ones who don't have any assets; they don't have any debt so they're not benefiting from paying back cheaper dollars; but also they're being hurt by this hidden inflation. You can't tell me that the price of goods and services over the last couple of years are only up 12% or something. The CPI numbers are absolutely being manipulated.

So the issue is, are those metrics true? Are the low-wage earners, the real wages, really keeping up with inflation? Because if you ask anyone at the lower end of that eschelon, you'll likely be told "no." The other thing is, how many jobs do they have to work in order to keep up with that inflation?

The Fed oversees stable pricing in the system, i.e., that we don't have inflation or deflation that runs out of control. And they want full employment. That supposedly is their two mandates. In reality - go to first principles - why do we need stable pricing? Because we need confidence in the dollar. Okay, who are they answering to? They're answering to the Treasury. The Treasury needs a stable dollar because they need to keep borrowing, to keep issuing debt; they need to be sure they have that avenue to facilitate all the spending that's going on in Washington. When real inflation, true inflation, is so high that people don't want to hold dollars anymore, that's when lack of confidence in the dollar happens.

This is the problem and what maddens me: when you have the manipulation of money and you continually go in these ebbs and flows of the economy and then you get into one of these downturns, who gets hurt the most? Who loses their job? Typically you have a swathe of wage earners that aren't critical to a company that get laid off, so all those layoffs in a recession winds up just doling out economic pain across the board.

So we've been conditioned that the Fed and Treasury are going to make sure large companies don't fail; that large banks don't fail; that the market doesn't melt down; that the Treasury market stays liquid, even if it means they have to dump liquidity in to make sure of it. And who makes out from that? The ones closest to the liquidity spigot are the ones who benefit the most. So, asset owners. People who own large houses, gold, bitcoin - they're going to benefit in this cycle IMO.

(they discuss bitcoin a good bit at the end of the video for those who are interested)

The "Debt Spiral" End Game | James Lavish by penelopepnortney in WayOfTheBern

[–]penelopepnortney[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Highlights, James Lavish speaking:

There's a lot of confusion about what's going on in the economy. The information we get from the Fed and the Bureau of Labor is a little obfuscated, so when you get CPI they break out components that are kind of critical to the everyday person, like housing and energy and food costs, and they call it a core inflation indicator. They give you numbers that may not match up with reality.

Consumers have had a lot of cash on hand and part of that is because of the stimulus checks and the programs the Fed ran during the pandemic, just handing out money to a lot of small companies and people. But that's running out so now you see consumer credit at all time highs, you're starting to see that delinquencies are up and the younger generations under pressure. But I was reading this morning on Bloomberg that the interest payments have surged, it's almost like a cliff face, that personal interest payments as a percentage of income are now up where they were right before the great financial crisis (2008). You can see it spike every single time before a recession and though we haven't seen "a recession" yet I fully believe it's coming.

What the Fed likes to point to is "the job market is still strong and the jobless rate is still near historic lows." But the reality is they're rising; the other reality is that jobless rates don't spike until after a recession starts, you'll see it spike every single time when a recession starts.

Now you look at the market and we've got seven stocks - the Magnificent Seven - that have been driving the S&P 500 for months now, ever since the AI hype. And there is some reality around this, Nvidia is selling a lot of chips because a certain type of processor is needed for these AI processes... they're the ones with the highly skewed P/E ratios (price/earnings).

I believe we're headed into a recession. The question is, how hard are we going to land, how deep is it going to go, how long is it going to last?

Housing prices have stayed high because they aren't selling. Because who wants to sell their house, even if it's greatly appreciated in price, and give up their 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 interest rate on that house in order to buy another house that would likely be smaller for the same price at an 8% interest rate?

The other thing is we've been running massive deficits and that's inflationary. Debt in and of itself isn't a bad thing, if you can use it responsibly and borrow an amount that makes sense, then no harm no foul. But the government isn't doing that.

We got into the position at the end of May, early June, where we were about to trip the debt ceiling. So instead of trying to figure out how to lower expenses, we just kicked the can down the road on the debt ceiling, put a moratorium on it and now we don't really have one. Between then (May/June) and now, we've added over $2 trillion in debt. The government spending has been massive and that's going to come home to roost.

Did I mention they consider that enough to help 10,000 homeless get into housing? Do the math per. Now consider in L.A.Co alone before the last few years they hit 65k on the streets...

Except they are focusing on Freeways, ie CalTrans property clear outs.

As campuses reel, a reminder of the First Amendment’s boundaries by penelopepnortney in WayOfTheBern

[–]penelopepnortney[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Excerpt, see tweet for greater detail and explanations:

The First Amendment protects a vast range of speech and expressive conduct.

But it doesn’t protect all speech and expressive conduct.

The categorical exceptions to the First Amendment are few, narrow, and carefully defined.

To protect freedom of expression, they must remain that way.

But they do exist, each for good reason.

And as campuses grapple with students and faculty expressing raw anger, fear, and shock over events in Israel and Gaza, it’s useful to revisit the boundaries between protected expression and actionable misconduct.

Violence is never protected by the First Amendment.

Just as violence is unprotected, so too are true threats and intimidation.

Incitement — speech that is both “directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action” — is unprotected by the First Amendment.

Colleges and universities that accept federal funding — the vast majority of campuses, both public and private — must maintain and enforce policies prohibiting discriminatory harassment on the basis of certain protected class statuses.

The heckler’s veto: taking action to silence the lawful speech of others is illiberal and, in some cases, unlawful. When a speaker is silenced by those who disagree with their speech, the heckler’s veto is at work, and the First Amendment is under threat.

Times like this may seem to present the most righteous justifications for bending the rules in one direction or the other, to either permit the censorship of protected speech or to allow unprotected speech or violence to go unpunished. But we cannot let either happen.

Jesus spoke in a way mystery cult initiates of that time could maybe possibly partially grasp. Yet one in a billion Christians today could even partially grasp, except the moral teachings for children and many many solar cycle allegories, since it's conversion into the empirical cult of Rome.

Tesla spoke truth but I was not comparing him to Yahusha, the coming king of the world government from the royal Davidic line who will rule non-jews with an iron rod (from revelations in older not cleaned up versions).

The mark of the beast, recent research I had handy:

the cross, replacing the native Old English word "rood" ultimately from the Latin "crux" (stake, cross) relating to to Old French crocier (modern French crosse), the term for a shepherd's crook. Latin crux referred to the gibbet where criminals were executed, a stake or pole, with or without transom, on which the condemned were impaled or hanged, ranging from a forked cross to a gibbet or gallows. "stauros" (stake or pillar) from which the staurogram or christogram of the tau-rho or Chi-Rho. The cross mark is used to mark a position, or as a check mark, but also to mark deletion. Derived from Greek Chi are the Latin letter X.. In the Phoenician alphabet and derived scripts, the cross symbol represented the letter taw, which is the historical predecessor of Latin T. The letter name taw means "mark", presumably continuing the Egyptian hieroglyph "two crossed sticks".

Strangely this worship of an idol of a cross/pole/stake by Christians is very similar the Canaanite worship of the Asherah pole. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asherah_pole

While I can understand your disdain for the attitudes of these sorts of people, you also have to realise that this is the endgame reaction. While others may get there more slowly or quickly dependent upon how much bullshit has been experienced, education level, etc, it gets very difficult to even attempt to sympathise with these characters at all. When all I see are brown people attacking my child and the state effectively defending their right to do so, the media coercing me that I am personally worth less because I am white, when my children are invalid because they are white and then when I come to social media only to find people attempting to discredit or run roughshod over my own experiences or bleat out the same tired bollocks, I too lose a lot of sympathy to the point where I am fully behind packaging the ruddy lot of them up, shipping them to I really don't care where and closing the borders, genuine asylum be damned. But I didn't exactly get there overnight.

Being Irish myself, I too saw a lot of racism coming up in Britain in the 1980s during the heights of the IRA. Yet whenever I bring this up, it is almost verboten as I cannot possibly even slightly suggest anything of the ilk because slave trade. And then when I too dig into the history of the slave trade, who the biggest proponents were and who actually had a huge hand in ending it, that's the history that is again almost verboten.

So yes, I do see how people just resort to plain unabated racist vocabulary. It's largely because there are no other avenues left and all they are waiting for is a political figure to actually represent their views. And in the UK, just like in Netherlands, Italy, etc. I don't think that is far away. Maybe 1-3 years.

I share your pain with regards the IT sector and the destruction of the middle classes. I am vehemently against this. I do however view it as a separate problem to the one we are now experiencing in Europe and the very issues that the Irish were protesting about in the clash in Dublin. It is the same, but different. While I agree with you that from a personally economic perspective, cheap labour is doing the likes of you and I no favours at all. However, I do view this as different from the immigrants that are coming here, whether legally, illegally or via the asylum system, and inflicting near on a decade or two's worth of crime growth on particular areas of the countries they are in within a matter of weeks. That I have a huge problem with.

The area I'm in has turned on a dime. It's gone from a pleasant sleepy town with trees, safe to walk around any time to people generally tend to not go out after dark, women and especially young girls do not walk out alone at any time, incidents of burglary, home invasions and car crime has dramatically increased to the point where almost everybody on my street has had something happen to them, even us, and this to me is no way to live. I am not even being overly dramatic.

Honestly I am at the point that if a far right wing party came into fruition and offered to ship back the bally lot of them, I would honestly vote for them. I have no faith in our politicians to even slightly stem the tide and I am sick of seeing what is happening. While I hate to say that, especially as an Irishman living with a Swedish wife living in a foreign country myself (though I have been here all my life), we aren't out here burning the town down; they are. And the way I see it, they have worn out their welcome.

Sure racist responses makes matters worse. It is a shame people resort to that. But I see it as mainly an effect of being summarily ignored and told that black is orange, orange is red and crimson doesn't exist. And when they try to complain, they just get a single word smarmy response: "Source?"

Source my ass. Go stick yourself in any of these places these migrants have shown up on en masse and see for yourselves, I say. Take your young daughter, you might see more clearly!

NB Not you yourself, you anyone.

It's the Zionists, either in Israel or part of the global Israeli Zionist support system, that use the Holocaust as a deflection against criticism of the genocidal policies of Zionism. So having said Holocaust lose its power as a 'get-out-of-jail-free' card to deflect against accusations of apartheid and genocide is specifically directed at Zionist Israel and not at the global Jewish population, that is indeed often critical of Zionism, which they correctly see as a threat to their security wherever they happen to live.

May I step in here? That's a common conflation of Judaism and Zionism. The 2022 global population of Jews was estimated at 15.2 million (don't know if that's folks who self-identify as Jewish or are counted that way because of parentage; if from census data, probably the former). The largest number in one country, 6.9 million, are in Israel, but that means more than half are not in Israel and can't be assumed to be supportive of what's going on. Even within Israel, there has always been a Jewish I-P peace movement.
