The Netherlands has definitely become culturally colonized by the USA. Stuff like gender ideology, queer theory and critical race theory are pushed by the media/corporations in a very agressive way and without any nuance or criticism. I'm pretty worried about the future at this point..

I am still enjoying the show, but the non binary storyline was really stupid. I'm afraid they are going to double down on the gender identity stuff in future seasons, which is a shame because there are a couple of topics that they've handled really well.

The sexual assault storyline for example is really good imo. Finally a realistic portrayal of the long term effects of such an experience.

Arrest reports released by the DOJ revealed that Facebook, Twitter and Youtube played a bigger part in planning the capitol attack compared to Parler. Big Tech tries to claim the moral highground eventhough there are thousands of documented cases where they facilitated criminal conduct. They are also still not able to properly detect/ban child porn on their platforms.

Parler was gaining a lot of traffic after Trump got banned and this was simply a coordinated effort by companies with a monopoly position to shut down a competitor.

The scary thing about trans health care in general is that we know very little about long term effects. There aren't many trans indivuals who transitioned 20+ years ago and talked openly about their experiences. The only one who comes to mind is Buck Angel, who almost died because of complications 15 years down the line. So I can't really give you a clear answer about how trans individuals age.

I've been in your situation before (being scared of straight men finding out about my sexuality and making a big deal out of it). The reality is that most straight people are nice (after high school lol) and don't really care about it at all. You definitely do not have to come out to them if you are not comfortable, but this shouldn't stop you from downloading a dating app imo.

This letter is dead-on. Trans people are chasing a fantasy and I do not think we are actually helping anyone by affirming their delusions. I know a couple of trans people irl and I've noticed that once their transition is complete (and they do not really have new surgeries or bodily changes to look forward to), their mental health does not seem to have improved significantly compared to pre-transition.

[–]LushCanopy 23 insightful - 1 fun23 insightful - 0 fun24 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Everyone is so focused on the transgender debate (and fighting for non-issues like neo pronouns) that we are losing sight of the original fight/purpose of the gay rights movement, which is the acceptance of people who do not conform to strict gender norms. Gender ideology has done a lot of harm by reinforcing those gender roles and by making GNC people feel like they were "born in the wrong body".

Unfortunately there is still a long road ahead in terms of acceptance, so we need more people like you to set an example. Even if your life is far from perfect, at least you can say that you stayed true to yourself. Know that your existence will inspire people (whether it's people you know personally or strangers on the street) to do the same. Also, like-minded people definitely exist, but it might take some time before you find them.

There is definitely an agenda being pushed that overcomplicates bi/homosexuality. Separating gender and sex also contributes to that. We have seen how people are trying to change the meaning of simple words/concepts like "lesbian". I'm not sure what the end goal is, but all of this feels homophobic to me.

I know a couple of trans rights activists irl and they are 100% convinced that everyone is pansexual. They basically believe that sexual orientation is a social construct and they mostly blame christianity (not other religions for some reason) and colonialism.

This way of thinking is a direct attack against gay people in particular, because it implies that homosexuality is a choice after all.

Even if all trans people were harmless (which is not true obviously), "cis" predators could still easily take advantage of self ID laws to get access to women in spaces where they are very vulnerable. Libfems fighting for these laws are either extremely naive or don't really understand what these laws actually mean for the safety of women. It's crazy how there has barely been any public debate about this..

I know two trans people and I think they both experienced that honeymoon effect. They genuinely seemed a lot happier during the first year of their transition. I haven't seen them in a while, but apparently one of them is basically on suicide watch and the other is addicted to plastic surgery (went to Turkey during a pandemic to get a BBL and a third nose job).
