I do think some of these people are waking up. Slowly, but I'm seeing more nuanced, thoughtful comments like this, and it's encouraging. The wave of detransitioners will continue to be huge. Mostly silent, but huge.

I hear you. But a huge quantity of detransitioners express a strong wish that someone had stopped them from doing this to themselves. Or that it had been tougher to get surgery. Or that someone had warned them adequately what things would be like...

I'm on the fence, like I said. I would just encourage folks to read the testimonies of people who had this surgery, being told it would cure something or heal them, and who now deeply regret it. The medical complications are astounding.

I don't know, man... We wouldn't legally allow someone to strip off their skin from their left arm, amputate their hand, and graft on taste buds, claiming that the person now has a new "tongue". That would be sick and messed up. This reminds me of that. These poor people don't actually get a new penis or vaginal canal, they just get sliced up. Recovery is often painfully slow (if it happens at all) and complications can be grotesque and life-changing.

One of the really interesting things I discovered, is that a week off of social media, I noticed that time seemed to be "slowing down". Like... the afternoon would just drag on. But in a good way.

I finally figured out that rapid-fire internet media (especially Twitter and YouTube binging) had kind of screwed up my nervous system and that time seemed to be racing. Off of that kind of content, my mind could slow down and process things at a normal rate. It was really weird, yet cool.

Oh, and nature was more enjoyable.

I kind of tried something like this for a year. I just limited myself to work stuff, e-mail, and downloading mp3s. It worked out really well!

No news, few distractions, less anxiety. I came back here, but seriously limited the subs I follow, and try to just check in daily. It's going well.

I recommending having some resources in place to keep you entertained and happy off-line. Like a music player (instead of a smart phone) for music, books, and time out weekly for walks and stuff.

I think it would be helpful to define genocide. Is genocide the physical killing of an entire ethnic group of people? Is genocide the imprisonment of an ethnic group? Forced relocation? Forced language shifts?

Genocide in its most literal break down means "race killing". Not culture killing or language killing, but race killing. I know people sometimes talk about linguistic or cultural genocide, but the term seems to be over-used.

If we can define terms, then we can decide if a term is being used correctly, or if a less intense or more intense word needs to be used instead. This is the problem with post-modernism. Increasingly, words mean what a person wants them to mean subjectively. This makes historical discourse and contemporary dialogue kind of hard.

It really blows my mind that this is even a thing. Back when I was growing up, kids would mess around with hair and clothing, but we'd never dream of going on hormones or having surgery. You just muddled through high school, eventually figured out who you were, and life went on. I know I sound like an old fart, but holy cow...

I remember reading some Leslie Feinberg about 17 years ago, and I think we have her to thank for a lot of this. Only, funny thing, as far as I know she never got bottom surgery. Seems like this really began to take off around 2008-2010 or so.

I keep hearing from detransitioners that nothing they did made them really happy. But if the surgery is innately harmful and the tissue in question isn't infected or harboring a tumor, why cut into it? And as the issue is with the person's perception of their naturally male or female body, this seems more like a psychological issue that needs therapy, not a physical one that needs surgery.

I get that this may be a sensitive issue for you, Vulptex. And you have my sympathy and my concern. But honestly, man, look at the de-trans testimonies. And the things that can go wrong with this surgery are startling. Life-changing, but in all the wrong ways. The ones who regret it, regret it big-time, and may even consider killing themselves.

I'm on the fence. I'm not sure that this should be outlawed, but I really don't think a kid should be able to get access to this stuff. If they're not old enough to get a tattoo, get married, consent to sex with an adult, or go to war, they shouldn't be old enough to go on T or E or get top or bottom surgery.

I'm torn. I definitely feel like no one under 18 should be given opposite-sex hormones or surgery, but 26? I would say, either allow folks to get hormones and eventually surgery at 18, or just ban hormones and bottom surgery all together.

Given how messed up the results of bottom surgery often are (pain, wounds that never heal, weird complications, drainage), maybe no one should be getting this surgery. You can't do to the human body what these surgeons are claiming, anyway. And the ones who regret the surgery regret the $#@! out of it.
