The worst part about this is that the “88” was supposed to be a tribute to the team owner’s 88th birthday.

They got rid of what could have been a nice tribute because of complaints from a couple of Twitter users

Apparently, 14/88 is a “white supremacist symbol”

The 14 refers to a specific quote, which is 14 words in length, from a white power manifesto. If you ever saw Adventurous_Ad6212 trolling with those rants about securing a future for trans babies, it's actually a riff off that particular quote.

The 88 is reference to the eighth letter of the alphabet, "H," and typically means "Heil Hitler."

The people who obsess about this sort of thing to the extent that they see it everywhere like to claim that it's a racist dogwhistle. And yet, as ever, they're the only ones who actually hear the whistle in question.

It’s not helped by the ADL and SPLC existing solely to uncover these things everywhere in order to drum up donations. They both got taken in by the 4chan White Power OK hand signal, and fucking ran with it even when they were told it was a joke.

These people would freak out in China where 88 is seen as auspicious, and a red car with 88 on it would be a favourite.

I mean if you wanna stretch it anything could be some dog whistle. Numerology and whatnot is nonsense brain rot where you'll see people get their panties in a twist because numbers prove prophecy or some such. Ronald Wislon Reagan. Six letters in each of the three names. 666 antichrist!

      66 also antichrist.

Cant use the number for because it's the Chinese word for death.

Can't use the number 9 because it's the Japanese word for suffering.

      Definitely can't use number 94.

Of course some turd immediately asks if they are changing the 14 as well. Someone rightfully pointed out the long association between owner and former driver AJ Foyt and the number.

This is why you don’t give these people an inch. They won’t take a mile. They’ll try to take the whole fucking road.

55 stands for “Saint Eichman” (saint has five letters and E is the fifth letter of the alphabet). I an deeply offended by this fascist and antisemetic indycar. And I definitely knew what an indycar was before I saw this very REAL Nazi symbol.

4H definitely stands for the fourth Reich! 🍀

Reminds me of back in the day when there were rumours of Gökhan Inler being a neo Nazi because his shirt number at Napoli was 88. He took 88 because 8 was already taken

Feels bad for anyone with 88 in their email for their birth year. Guess they're all nazis now.
