US Student suspended for posting photo of Crowded school hall that reopened after COVID-19 lockdown by Snehashis09 in WorldNews

[–]happysmash27 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I disagree. People shouldn't get suspended for calling the school out on bad safety conditions. I would not feel safe in a crowded school during a pandemic, especially with so few people wearing masks, and even less wearing masks of high quality. Even before the pandemic got big, when almost nobody took it seriously, almost nobody except me wore a mask, and there was no stay at home order, I started wearing masks where possible around January 27th (because I am a free thinker who cares little if everyone else says it's unnecessary – and look at where that carelessness got this country, where now we have the pandemic too), but in school doing this is very hard, since one cannot eat with a mask on. I was worried about this in my tiny school with less than 100 people, before there were many cases in my area at all. This would be horrible in a big school when there are now many many cases. Students and parents should be warned of the danger.

Have you tried old UNIX editors like Vim? Or is that still too bloated?

I personally use Emacs, which is hilariously bloated with all its plugins (it even has built-in games), but it's so old that "bloated" is actually pretty fast even on my phone (using it through the command line in Termux). But, because of the bloat, I would not recommend it to you, as Vim is often seen as a less-bloated competitor. It is way better than a horribly bloated IDE, but still slower and more bloated than most alternative command line editors.

If Vim is too bloated, you could always try something crazy like ed, but ed is stereotypically really, really bad, so I would recommend doing more research to find something better. In general, command line programs, or even programs that are just primarily operated through the command line, are way faster than native GUI programs, so if you can find one that is designed to not be bloated, it will be very non-bloated indeed.

I guess you could also try using Vi (which is probably installed by default, accessible through the terminal). Vim is just an extended version of Vi, so Vi will probably be less bloated.

Yes, I hate modern bloated, overcomplicated software, and much prefer simpler software that adheres to the UNIX philosophy.

I'm not quite sure what this has to do with software being western, though. I'm also not quite sure what the appeal of Luan is over just using C. Is there some reason I would want to use something based on Java instead?

Same. Sometimes I feel like a change-afraid luddite when a new technology comes along that, like most current computer technology, is horrible, but then I remember how happy I am to switch to metric, learn Esperanto, use weird but fast user interfaces like tiling window managers/compositors (right now I use Sway), learn the command line (where I do most of my computing when I can), etc, and realise that my actual problem with it is that they are making bad changes instead of good ones. I am happy to change if the change brings me benefits in the long run instead of harm.

Speaking of suckless, I really like that software, but do wish it had better Wayland support so I could switch to it. st sounds like it could be pretty cool; my current terminal alacritty uses a ridiculous amount of memory for some reason, which I guess is fine since I have tons of RAM, but it's still pretty annoying for a terminal which is supposed to be simple.

…Actually, this is the first time I've really looked at the Suckless software other than dwm and dmenu (which I actually use in Sway). Farbfeld actually looks pretty interesting and I might use it for simple software I make like my WIP ray tracer that I prefer to use with simpler libraries rather than complex.

ii also seems like a pretty cool irc client. The way it uses files and relies on programs like echo for i/o somewhat reminds me of the recent extremely simple and fast binary-to-text (and text-to-binary) converters I made: https://github.com/happysmash27/bin2txt.

Ooh! I forgot slock was a suckless project! It is definitely my favourite display locker for X11, and I think it's a shame it doesn't support Wayland.

They seem to like C a lot, even writing games in C, and I am often the same. I do wonder if C would be the best choice for a highly modular block game which I want to write, though, but in general, if I am making a program, I will usually write it in C.

/u/Jesus has been here since the beginning, for longer than me, and for much longer than you. I think they have a pretty good perspective on the quality of posts on this site. And, the tone I'm reading from their posts seems to be more of a tone of disappointment than a tone of rage, because this site was really good in the past, and is now arguably lowering in quality due to the types of issues they are writing about.

I'm pretty happy that now we have more non-conspiracy content, but the ad-hominem is definitely an issue. Perhaps we are in need of a bit more moderation in regards to that (since dragging discussion down the pyramid of debate is one of the few things that is actually against the rules on this site).

But this guy Geoffrey Knauth is nothing of that sort, a cursory lookup on the internet suggests that he has a profile on both Twitter and Linkedin, two popular non-free platforms which RMS actively despises and avoids! Furthermore, his Linkedin profile shows that much of his experience lies in things like C#, SQL Server, Azure, etc. which are all proprietary platforms having nothing to do with free software.

Oh NO =(´⊙ ᨓ ⊙`)= ! And I thought I would be a bad candidate because I still play proprietary games! This guy is horrible! I might actually remove the FSF as my AmazonSmile charity if they have failed this badly in choosing a Stallman replacement.

Like, Twitter is tolerable for me, but the majority of experience being in the proprietary software world? Absolutely unacceptable!

I am so glad Stallman is still head of GNU, because at least that means my userspace and licensing is safe.

His twitter activity on the other hand, suggests that he is more interested in national politics matters and social issues like BLM, racism, etc. which are all great causes but have little to do with free software or open source.

That type of politics does not belong in the FSF; only software politics does. Purism does it right, focusing on technology enabling protestors to keep their data private, rather than what the protests themselves are about.

I am also always weary of people who support "BLM", as that could mean anything from "we must stop this senseless police violence" to "only black people can experience racism, and no one else is important at all". I also feel is is an overly-divisive phrase.

To be clear, I think all lives matter in the very literal sense of that phrase, and this includes the black lives which are threatened by police violence far more than they should be, as well as the lives of everyone else threatened by police violence and/or discrimination. So, if someone says "Black Lives Matter", it is very likely that I agree with their intention, but do not know what their intention is due to their wording.

And on the other hand, I couldn't find a single tweet or mention by him about anything even remotely relating to a GNU software such as gcc, emacs or linux.

To be fair, the FSF is not GNU, at least not anymore. But no mention of Linux? That is ridiculous. I guess the FSF is about to be (or already is) dead as Reddit: a walking corpse of what was once great.

I wonder if setting my organisation to GNU would work well? Are they on AmazonSmile? Or maybe the EFF.

Will you vote to be on the "winning team" or do you reject their rigged duopoly system and protest vote for other parties (ie. Green Party or Libertarian Party)? by JasonCarswell in ElectionsUSA2020

[–]happysmash27 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I vote for third parties… basically no matter what. I hate the Republicans and Democrats pretty equally, and like the Libertarians, Greens, and Peace and Freedom parties almost equally, so am happy when someone votes for any of them. I also am happy when people vote independent.

I'm voting for Libertarian myself, because of all the third parties it has the most supporters (and is therefore most likely to win), because I prefer voluntary donations and volunteering for social programs much more than government action (and feel a lot of government action and fees combat my vision of a voluntary gift economy), and because some of the issues I care about most, like over-extended copyright terms, government spying, and the DMCA, seem most likely to be opposed by the Libertarian party.

I also really hate it when taxes go to something I oppose, like animal agriculture or fossil fuel subsidies. When they stop going to things I support too, I feel that is fine, as I would rather things be funded voluntarily anyway. I like paying my own money for things I support, but do not feel it is right to force others to do so.

I also hate government bureaucracy, the complex tax system, and all the regulations that disproportionately hurt smaller companies and individuals, raising the barrier to entry and reducing competition.

Also, /r/libertarian never banned me, only removing one of my comments with notification, while other political subs permaban me without warning when I inevitably slip into wrongthink. That alone was enough to push me to the Libertarian side.

I think it's a shame that most Reddit alternatives are still centralised. Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to follow subs on multiple sites at once?

Actually, why don't we do that now? Instead of having individual clients for each website, why can't there be one client that can mix in posts from all of them? The APIs already exist, after all. The sorting algorithm for hot could, perhaps, sort based on the upvotes in a post compared to the average upvotes on a post on that site or sub.

I was thinking of writing a Linux Reddit client for when my Librem 5 arrives, but now I am thinking I should write it to not just support Reddit, but support Reddit, SaidIt, Ruqqus, Voat, and anything else I can implement, all in one unified feed.

Such a system could be decentralised even more by allowing one to use an account from one site to post and vote on another. We need to come up with a good standard for this type of decentralisation, but once it's implemented… maybe ping /u/d3rr? Or, at least for SaidIt. Other people would have to be pinged for other sites.

I also think enforcement of the Pyramid of Debate is a good idea, as it keeps the site non-toxic while not censoring opinions entirely. While we're at it, we need to drop the L and the B too! Lesbians and gays are hateful of pre-op trans people by excluding them from their sexuality!

Drop the T as well! Trans women and trans men reinforce the gender binary by insisting people must change their gender if they don't conform to gender stereotypes!

As for queer? Queer is hate speech because it was used as a pejorative in the past, and so should be eliminated, just like other words and symbols with bad past connotations, such as "master", "slave", "black", "white", and swastikas.

In the end, all that will be left will be a +, to symbolise that we, the non-binary pansexuals, are the Superior Beings who will rightfully rule the world.

in order for child porn to be made a child has to actually be hurt

First of all, I already said that the filming/partaking in child pornography, where the actual harm takes place, should be illegal. I am talking about distribution only, and even then, I do not think it should be legal to pay money for footage of abuse, as that incentivises it.

Secondly, in some cases child pornography can be made where no child is hurt, where it is drawn or animated. Although my opinion on live action is shaky, I firmly believe that one should be allowed to draw any image one wants, provided that it is fictional.

I already said on my original comment, that the filming of child pornography should be illegal. I was talking about distribution after the fact, not the creation. And, I also believe paying for filmed child pornography should be illegal, in order to not incentives it. I do, however, believe that the creation of fictional, drawn or computer-generated child pornography should be legal, because literally nobody is harmed in that. Though, from what I understand, that is already in a legal grey area.

I also feel that one should not be able to be charged of having naked photos of oneself, as has happened in the past.

Imagine having no idea if the guy standing behind you at the grocery store just jacked off to images or videos of you being raped. An adult does not have the right to distribute a sexual video of another adult without express permission.

This is why my opinion gets a whole lot weaker, as it involves an actual video of an actual person filmed non-consentually. I didn't bother to specify that initially, though, because I didn't anticipate people arguing about the opinion itself, rather than the censorship of it. I guess I must always be on guard when mentioning it.

Here's a question though: should such a video be allowed to be distributed, if the person retroactively consents to the distribution after turning 18? I would retroactively give consent for others to view bad things that have happened to me in the past, if enough people wanted to.

I wouldn't be able to push for less divisiveness of BLM/ALM, or, anything, really. Some child pornography also does not have a victim, i.e, anything fictional that is drawn or computer rendered, rather than filmed in real life.

Perhaps I should also add, that I do not think paying an abuser for their abuse should be legal. This includes the act of buying meat, as that indirectly causes the murder of animals who did nothing to deserve it.

Would you find reasonable the position that the distribution of anything with a victim involved in its production should be illegal, but that depiction in fiction can be legal?

It still, effectively, ends up making certain numbers and strings of characters illegal, and that is the main thing that bothers me. It also means that someone can send someone else illegal data, to get them in trouble. The current way these laws are implemented makes it far too easy to frame someone.

People's rights are also (fictionaly) broken in any media where someone kills someone else, yet there is much less support for banning that type of media entirely. Do you also propose banning violent video games and TV?

I also forgot to mention the way this violates freedom of expression. The way some of these laws are implemented, it is also illegal to create fictional depictions of child pornography, which I am a lot more opposed to making illegal than I am of recordings, because it shouldn't be illegal to draw certain things on a piece of paper, especially those that are feasible to draw in a short amount of time. Courts have agreed with this at times, though; fictional child pornography is currently in a legal grey area in the US, from what I understand.

I support free speech, but only in matters that count as the protection of someone's rights

TBH, I don't even care so much about this issue itself much anymore, but rather, just want to be able to discuss it without fear of being banned. That was the main point in my original comment, not that child pornography should be legal to distribute (which is just the opinion from a couple years ago I was banned from a lot of places for). I have no skin in the game regarding the legality of child pornography, but I do have skin in the game regarding the ability to discuss it, because unexpected censorship of it has harmed me a lot in the past.

A slightly separate issue from this: the heavy stigma about paedophilia can harm people, including children. It also ended up harming me at age 16, despite not being a pedophile myself, because it clashed with my radical ideas about freedom of information.

Edit: Also, I think it's somewhat ridiculous that minors can be charged for having illegal images of themselves. Is that not a bit overkill?

Thank you for responding so high on the pyramid of debate, by the way. I am going to give you an insightful vote, just for being so much more civil than a lot of other people have been about this. Usually I would try to make it more clear that I am mainly talking about the ability to express my opinion, and not the opinion itself, but I didn't feel as much need to this time because there are little to no hidden rules preventing one from saying certain opinions on SaidIt. It seems the comments have evolved to talking about the opinion itself, though, rather than just the ability to express it.

Makes sense. A lot of anti-semitism seems to be quite flattering to Jewish people, since it suggests that they are so powerful and smart they can covertly control the world, and also be great with money. Also, a lot of famous, oftentimes smart people were Jewish, e.g, Albert Einstein. So, it is pretty easy to make an argument for Jewish supremacy.

Not that I support it, of course. I oppose any and all racism. I don't think Jewish supremacy is much of a threat, though, at least not right now, so it may be fun to discuss it.

Because I've been looking for a sub where I can be somewhat critical of the transgender movement, while also still accepting trans people themselves.

Maybe actually say why child pornography is so bad instead of assuming everyone knows already? I had no idea it was a controversial idea at all until I received so much backlash. I always interpreted it (and still interpret it) as the same as violent video games: depicting a harmful act, but not actually harming anyone in real life. In general, sexual norms in society confuse me a lot. I have seen well-written arguments for pedophiles being more accepted (e.g, this article), but whenever anyone argues against it, they always assume the person they are arguing with already knows why, and just shame them instead of actually trying to convince them of anything. I can accept that the act itself is harmful, but I can't understand how one can simultaneously oppose the existence of media depicting acts which can't be done consensually in real life, while supporting the existence of violent video games where one is virtually killing people, which also is rarely consensual in real life.

Recordings are information, able to be expressed in numbers, usually 1s and 0s, and I do not believe that illegal numbers should exist. This is the same reason why I believe digital piracy should be legal, and I also do not believe someone should be able to go to jail just because someone else sent them illegal information.

Good. That is free speech! Would rather them censor even more people's political opinions? Because I, personally, feel that any censorship of political speech is a loss, regardless of what the views are.

Although, full disclosure, I may be somewhat biased on this one, as one of the worst experiences of my life started with being censored by the left for extending my beliefs in freedom of speech, information, and expression (including in the context of piracy) to the distribution of child pornography, something that may fall under this type of discussion. Also, I was even censored for trying to change those views, in many other places on Reddit too. So, although I would still probably disagree with censoring such discussion either way, the fact that censoring such discussions has also resulted in me being censored many times (which indirectly led to suicidal thoughts and, uh, this, which I don't really want to talk about), makes me especially not amiable to pushing for more censorship of it.

The left hates pedophiles. I was banned from /r/Anarchism in large part for saying that the distribution of child pornography (but not filming) should be legal (due to my strong belief in freedom of speech, expression, and information), and have been banned from many other places for trying to discuss this belief and change it. Everyone in the LGBTQ+ community who I have heard talk about pedophilia talks about it in a bad light, and say that pedophiles are not welcome in the LGBTQ+ community. I can't even say why I was banned from /r/Anarchism on /r/Libertarian, because it supposedly violates Reddit's rules to do so. Maybe some fringe people on the left may push for pedophilia, but I can assure you that the mainstream left is heavily against it, and will try to silence you if you come even close to advocating for it.

I cannot take such an argument that the left pushes for pedophilia seriously, when I have gotten so badly censored by the left for an opinion that doesn't even advocate for pedophilia itself, that it made me suicidal.

More and more things have been like that from the left lately. Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian recently resigned from Reddit requesting to be replaced by a black candidate, which is explicit discrimination, and Reddit recently explicitly allowed hate speech only against "majority" groups before later backtracking to more vague rules. A lot of the left is becoming very racist, and I hate that.

Maybe some people from GenderCynical actually liked free speech instead of censorship, and still wanted to be able to debate without their opponents being silenced? It is pretty hard to change someone's opinion when they can't clarify what their opinion actually is, and what reasons they have it.

Or, perhaps some people here migrated here for reasons unrelated to this sub, and decided to create this sub to counteract all the anti-trans rhetoric that wasn't getting much resistance.

I personally believe in trans rights, but have also been censored for many of my other opinions unrelated to that, and even in the realm of trans rights, on most of Reddit's LGBTQ+ subs, I worry that there may be bias due to hardly being able to question the narrative at all. For example, I believe the concept of an "egg" is very dubious, while still considering trans women and trans men to be women and men. I have not heard of this sub until now, but if it is an uncensored sub critiquing GenderCritical, think I may join it.

Wow! That is… very sexist.

Men have always feared women thinking for themselves. Every man, in every country, throughout history.

I am biologically male, and do not fear this. Everyone should think for themselves; I do not care which group they are in.

Men believe women were put on Earth to serve men.

I also do not believe this. I believe that all people are pretty much equal, regardless of sex/gender, race, etc.

A right wing man might believe women are obligated to obey their husbands. A left wing man might think women are obligated to make him feel like a woman.

No one is obligated to do anything, except perhaps to not actively harm others through, say, violence. You can disagree with trans people if you want, but other people in other locations also have a right to do what they want, and you have a right to not go to them. Basically, what I am saying is that I am libertarian about transgenderism: do what you want, and you can create a safe space for any side if you want. My preferred solution in the case of bathrooms: individual bathrooms instead of gendered ones. That way, no problems can occur within the same gender either. But you can do your preferred solution for them too, if you prefer.

But at it's core men are entitled and hate women for not giving them what they want.

I do not truly hate anyone, not even the person that stole my old phone and destroyed it, and especially do not hate blanket groups like "women". I oppose discrimination based on factors that people do not have control over.

The satisfaction a man gets when he beats up a woman for misgendering him

I do hope most trans women do not do that, but can't be sure (I do not have the statistics on it). Beating up people is not at all the solution to this. I prefer debate and disapproval of people's actions to violence, especially for an infraction as relatively minor as misgendering. A person offending someone is not grounds to beat them up. That is extremist, though an extremism that may be worryingly prevalent.

…Good point. Why aren't more people talking about this?

I have seen only one mention of this on Reddit, in the relatively small subreddit /r/StallmanWasRight: https://reddit.com/comments/hryqry, though it only documents forced labour and "re-education" (which is still absolutely horrifying), in the context of large companies who make abusive proprietary software and locked down hardware also indirectly supporting abuse of workers in China. It also documents forced searches of their phones, which I find hits particularly close to home, as an advocate for digital privacy and user control. I have not yet seen any article mention hair and organ harvesting from them on Reddit, though, but quickly looking it up, though, there are many articles about that too.

We need to pay more attention to this. It is one of the most horrible human rights violations going on right now, yet has so little focus on it. We do have some power to change it though: boycott all companies that use the forced labour. Also, boycott China in general due to their hostile takeover in Hong Kong, and restrictions on freedom of movement, and censorship, and… well, EVERYTHING! China is one of the worst countries I know of, and it is very powerful too. Worst of all, many products can only be gotten from China. We need to do something about this! Please try to find non-Chinese alternatives to Chinese products in literally any other country, other than maybe North Korea (which is worse).

The way I read it:

Blue = Jewish

Red = Non-Jewish European

Green = African

I think this is the case, because there are ideologies that view each of these groups exactly the same as the blue, red, and green groups in the hypothetical.

I am not from that ideology, so my question is why the Blue group would want to concentrate more power in Blue people in the first place. And if this really is a genetic-level thing, how does it account for Blue people that don't agree with the Blue agenda, or who don't know about it?

I also don't necessarily agree with the claims on intelligence, if this theory that the colours are based on race is correct. One's environment can affect intelligence a lot, especially if one does not have enough food in childhood, so if there are disparities in intelligence between groups, it may also be based on disparities in environment or even epigenetics that diminish in effect over time if the environment is continuously good, therefore be nullified when groups are mixed together enough, and have the same pro-intelligence environment for long periods of time.

To set SaidIt to load fresh comments, one must merely modify the source code to be able to do so, most likely by merging the very new commit from several days ago (or maybe a couple weeks ago?) that allowed RedReader to do the same, and probably all the other commits too, hopefully then merging all those merges into the main repository for the SaidIt app so that others can take advantage of them as well. The current SaidIt app is forked from a very old version of RedReader, so doesn't include that feature yet or even a lot of the features much older than it, like the automatic muting of videos played. I plan to merge many of the changes myself at some point, if no one else gets to them first.

The current feature to reload everything by default actually annoys me a lot, as it makes loading comments take a couple seconds instead of loading them near-instantly, and also automatically tries to load a non-working version when Reddit is down instead of using the cached version. I wish there was a way to disable it or make it a bit more sane, but unfortunately, no such option exists yet.

Black Lives Matter Leader Believes White People are Subhuman, Calls Them ‘Genetic Defects’ – Begs ‘Allah’ to Help Her ‘Not Kill White Folks’ by scrubking in politics

[–]happysmash27 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yusra Khogali in 2016 wrote “white people are a genetic defect of blackness” in a since-deleted Facebook post.

Err, technically correct. Every feature of someone is technically a "defect" of something; it is just that these "defects" aren't always harmful, and sometimes can even be helpful. If having light skin was always harmful, it would have died off long ago.

“White ppl are recessive genetic defects. this is factual,” she said.

My grandmother has very dark skin, while my father (on the same side of the family) has much lighter skin. I myself have light skin, easily able to be interpreted as white, despite being around 25% black. There, is evidence, right in front of my own eyes, that this isn't true at all. Skin colour is determined by many, many genes, not a single dominant/recessive one.

Khogali asserted that white people have a ‘higher concentration of enzyme inhibitors which suppresses melanin production’ adding that ‘melanin is important for a number of things such as strong bones, intelligence, vision and hearing.’

[citation needed] (about what melanin is important for). No, seriously. If there is a study actually claiming this, I want to read it. It sounds interesting.

Khogali also claimed, “melanin directly communicates with cosmic energy.”

Uh, lol? That is a bit… out there. Are we sure this isn't actually just satire people are taking too seriously? Generally this sounds like an intentional mirroring of white supremicist rhetoric to prove how bad it is at this point, and this part is completely not based on any science I know of.

Is this satire? Is there another source for this to get more information? Is this even real? I see no citation yet.

Somehow a tweet I wrote out of anger months before our protest began has become a bigger media story than our protest’s many and profound accomplishments,” Khogali, co-founder of the Toronto chapter of Black Lives Matter, wrote in a Toronto Star column in 2016.

Ah, the classic ad hominem instead of refuting people's actual points! Perhaps they shouldn't do that, but I still think it is somewhat worrying that this co-founder of BLM appears like they may be some kind of black supremicist, given that, well, the group does focus on black lives. That gives a lot more credibility to those who claim it only cares about black lives.

Aha! At the end, the article cites this tweet, which cites this article

This article cites this image from this page on a site I have never heard of: cnews.conoe.com.

I decided to look up Yusra Khogali, and it seems they don't have a Wikipedia page. Surely that can't be right if they really are the cofounder of BLM? The Post Millenial article also calls her a "Black Lives Matter Toronto co-founder" instead of the co-founder of Black Lives Matter in general. According to Wikipedia:

In 2013, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi formed the Black Lives Matter Network. Alicia Garza described the network as an online platform that existed to provide activists with a shared set of principles and goals. Local Black Lives Matter chapters are asked to commit to the organization's list of guiding principles but operate without a central structure or hierarchy. Alicia Garza has commented that the Network was not interested in "policing who is and who is not part of the movement." Currently, there are approximately 16 Black Lives Matter chapters in the U.S. and Canada.

Notable Black Lives Matter activists include co-founder of the Seattle Black Lives Matter chapter Marissa Johnson, lawyer and president of the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP Nekima Levy-Pounds.

Yusra Khogali is mentioned nowhere here.

So assuming these quotes are real, it only means that some BLM members are racists, not that all of them are, or even that key ones are.

The loose structure of Black Lives Matter has contributed to confusion in the press and among activists, as actions or statements from chapters or individuals are sometimes attributed to "Black Lives Matter" as a whole.

I think that is what happened here. This article borders on fake news in the way it attributes things, IMO.

My perspective on this is completely different. I am gay, and, well, have absolutely been terrified of communal nudity like that since even before I came out to myself, since I got erections looking at my own naked body and was embarrassed by that, and also was terrified at being rather perverted by looking at the naked bodies of others I was attracted to (and maybe perhaps at being revealed as gay, which I wasn't sure if I was or not at the time). I also support trans people, so… my opinion on this is to not have communal showers at all. The same problem of attraction there exists regardless of whether one is transgender or not.

What do Netflix and Apple do bad here? I'm already avoiding paying them money for other reasons (both Apple and Netflix have restrictive DRM that I oppose, and Apple is terrible in right to repair), but am curious what they do particularly badly on this side, and if it is relevant to my values. I simultaneously support social justice, while also heavily opposing the current censorship-ridden, ridiculously intolerant, unnecessarily divisive, and often even discriminatory implementation of it.

Edit: Looking at the list:

Apple—a “racial justice initiative,” details to come—$100 million.

The details are the only thing I care about, so if there are no details, it means nothing to me.

I don't see anything about Netflix in this first list.

Edit: From https://conservativeus.com/the-full-list-here-are-the-269-companies-who-are-supporting-blm-antifa-riots/:

Trump and members of his administration have singled out Antifa as being responsible for the violence at protests triggered by the killing of Floyd.

  1. Singling out a single cause for this violence seems very dubious to me.

  2. Being from the Trump administration doesn't help. I don't trust Trump at all, though am a bit more neutral to the rest of his administration.

Little is known about who funds Antifa activists, or how the groups get their resources.

Funds… to do what, exactly? What do members of antifa need to be funded for?

Antifa is not a single organization, and therefore, financial details, if any exist, are murky.

Finally one of these articles mention that antifa is not a single organisation! It's annoying when people talk about them as if they are.

But after all many companies decided to step up and publicly support the riots that BLM and Antifa are organizing through America.

I don't necessarily oppose this, depending on the details. Not all of the protests are riots, and some of the police violence has been pretty senseless.

Aha! Here is the statement from Netflix!

To be silent is to be complicit. Black lives matter.

We have a platform, and we have a duty to our Black members, employees, creators and talent to speak up.

This is a very vague statement, and not one I feel is worth boycotting over yet. Unlike companies like Reddit, Netflix has not said anything to imply that all the other lives don't matter.

TBH, I have seen for myself them do something a bit more annoying: The highlighting black representation in the children's section on Netflix. I feel that this somewhat promotes racism by implying to children that a divide exists between the black and white, and someone I know originally not from the US similarly feels that this is not something that belongs in the children's section of Netflix. The best implementation of race I have seen is in the Pokemon series Sun & Moon, where race is such a nonexistant factor that upon seeing someone with the same character model as Professor Oak but with a much darker skin colour, they actually mistake one for the other. This other character is Principal Oak, and is related to Professor Oak. This is how I feel race should be approached: as something that doesn't exist, rather than something to bring attention to. Although there may be some statistical differences between "races", there are also many mixed race people who don't fall into any of them, and as more and more people mix together, I feel that race shouldn't be focused on so much. Plus, races are already somewhat blended in many cases.

Apple's atatement, linked here seems to be specifically from Apple Music:

On Tuesday, June 2nd, Apple Music will observe Black Out Tuesday. We will use this day to reflect and plan actions to support Black artists, Black creators, and Black communities. #TheShowMustBePaused #BlackLivesMatter

I'm not sure what Black Out Tuesday is, but I'm guessing it's either a spineless logo change, or blocking people from playing music to "raise awareness" or something. If it is blocking people from playing music, I oppose this music service due to it not only having the power to do that, but also actually taking advantage if it. This goes back to my stance against DRM: I will boycott practically any company that can take back any digital content I have purchased, but especially will boycott them of they will take it back. Such an action would be a violation of trust. I don't oppose the goal; I just hate the implementation. If you want to do something, maybe implement blind hiring practices (where one only sees metrics related to performance, rather than race), or even boycott taxes (because the police are corrupt, and taxes pay the police), bit don't deny music to innocents. "Awareness" campaigns like this would be dumb (if they are doing it), and will likely turn people like me who would otherwise support it away from the movement.

So there are people who want more sex drive? That explains how people could want to avoid masturbating. When I went through puberty I was concerned about having too much sex drive, and upon further research, found that masturbation was a good way to reduce it, and therefore learned to do it, through reading about how to the Wikipedia page for masturbation.

Thank you so much! I'm not sure I've ever up-insightfulled a post harder.

I was preparing to wear surgical masks on January 27th and watched everyone act like the virus was no big deal (except in niche communities) until it was, and the narrative that one suddenly shouldn't wear masks now that the government finally supports it has bothered me a lot for a while now (although as a libertarian, I still do not support making not wearing a mask illegal, as I believe it is a personal decision people should take voluntarily, not because the government said so, but because it is the right thing to do). It's good to see another perspective for once.

They already did ages ago, in a way, by calling light-skinned and dark-skinned people white and black instead of light brown and dark brown or similar.

So they are literally doing the thing where they interpret everything white/black as race-related now? I thought that was a satire thing, but I guess nothing can be contained to satire or fiction in this crazy year of 2020 (and the same goes for the left, right, and everyone else too).

I support some of this, like making things non-gendered, but other replacements, like for whitelist/blacklist and for "grandfathered", seem pretty silly. I don't mind them, per say; I just think they are completely unnecessary, as I know no one offended by any of them, and therefore rather silly.

P is next on the LGBTQ agenda, and it always has been.

One of the original reasons I came to SaidIt was that I was heavily censored by the far left for saying that child pornography should not be banned (I had this view, at the age of 16, because I believe in freedom of speech, expression, and information, and didn't understand that there was such intense opposition to anything related to pedophiles or why anyone would have it, for reasons I still do not understand because people either didn't let me debate about it, or debated the wrong issue in a strawman argument). I have never seen anyone in the mainstream LGBTQ community (the part that likes to censor people) voice anything but heavy opposition to pedophilia. They don't even let people describe it as a sexuality most of the time. This is the intolerant left's opinion on pedophilia. They do not support it, at all. Otherwise, I wouldn't be banned from /r/Anarchism and a few other random subs too.

Increased activity means it's easier to browse the site and stay there, so I predict it will grow more rather than go back down. I've certainly been browsing SaidIt a lot more lately myself.

Porno isn't bad; it's just hard to moderate and a very easy way to get into legal trouble if any bad porn (child pornography) gets through.

Add to that their recent announcements that we will no longer be able to filter by race. I have nothing against specific races, but I almost never feel an attraction to some, and forcing them to be visible to me won't make me more interested in them, just annoyed that I have to scroll through 50 people I don't want to bother with to see one I might when a filter USED to exist to skip that hassle.

That feature sounds annoying to me. How does it factor in mixed people? Many people these days don't fit neatly into racial categories, so I think it is better to judge looks created by race on the looks themselves, rather than race.

No seriously, tell me "asexual" person; when were you ever scared that your family and friends would disown you?

TBH, many gay people these days don't experience that either, or at least don't very strongly… or at least that's my experience being gay in Southern California, born in 2001 and coming out around age 14 or 15. Other places, like Saudi Arabia, are much worse though. It all depends on time and place, I think.
