If you want to see why Bitcoin specifically is a problem, please see my top-level comment again :P ! One thing many don't realise is that when quantum computers get powerful enough, they will be able to crack the private keys of almost every single cryptocurrency, which could even happen in a few years! /s/QuantumResistance is very important!

It probably won't be much of a problem for you, though, because physical gold/silver isn't just quantum resistant, but downright quantum proof! It is by far the safest asset, and definitely safer than, well, any of the 3 cryptocurrencies (last time I checked) which are quantum resistant, despite how secure they are.

Seriously though, you should add a lack of quantum resistance to reasons to avoid Bitcoin, because it is a very big problem no one has been paying attention to.

With GNU/Linux, the only constants are the GNU userspace and the Linux kernel.

It's actually fully possible to have Linux without GNU, such as in Android. I personally prefer Wayland/X11+Linux as a name for what many "Linux"-compatible apps support, because that is often one of the assumptions these apps make.

It would be impractical to target every single distro as a platform, but targeting dependancies might work, as well as some desktop environments and distros if they are particularly integrated.

Totally!

As an Anarcho-Communist, my principles are basically libertarianism + "let's give things to each other for free" as a movement. The main difference between my values and Anarcho-Capitalism is mainly that I think land should not be privately owned. This works for both communism and capitalism though: for communists, it means free land one can use to produce free resources, while for capitalists it means easy entrepreneurship, since there is land one can use to start a business not monopolised by companies. I can even talk about communism in the framework of capitalism: Communism = out-compete payed products with free ones. The more I think about it, the more left libertarianism and right libertarianism seem to be able to be the exact same thing.

Huawei: ARM memo tells staff to stop working with China’s tech giant by happysmash27 in technology

[–]happysmash27[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What I'm wondering is why it was added to this restricted entity list in the first place (with much less vague explanations than the ones I have found so far) and how this conflict can be resolved. One article linked from this one: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-48330310

Several countries have raised concerns that Huawei equipment could be used by China for surveillance, allegations the company has vehemently denied.

Do they not assume the networks will be surveiled? Shouldn't they be using encryption? Many agencies, like the NSA, already spy on citizens. What about those?

US chipmakers including Intel, Qualcomm and Broadcom are reported to have told their workers they will stop supplying Huawei, according to Bloomberg.

Intel would not to comment to the BBC.

Rosenblatt Securities analyst Ryan Koontz said Huawei would be "seriously crippled" if it did not have these "key US components", although the Chinese firm is believed to have stockpiles in place.

Important detail from the article. In addition to ARM, these companies are blocked too. This is very bad for Huawei.

Outside the US, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is continuing to deliver to Huawei.

The Nikkei reported that TSMC had said it owned a "complicated and sophisticated export control compliance system" and "based on the data in the system we are not changing our shipping practice for the time being".

(another additional detail)

The latest move against Huawei marks an escalation in tensions between the firm and the US.

The company is facing almost two dozen criminal charges filed by US authorities. Washington is also seeking the extradition of Huawei executive Meng Wangzou from Canada, where she was arrested in December at the behest of American officials.

It comes as trade tensions between the US and China also appear to be rising.

How did this start again? I think it had to do with encouraging US business.

Anyway, could https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-47046264 answer my question?

One of the world's biggest telecoms firms and its top executive are facing almost two dozen criminal charges filed by US authorities. The US is also seeking the extradition of Huawei executive Meng Wangzou from Canada, where she was arrested 1 December at the behest of American officials.

Which criminal charges? Are they valid?

To understand the significance of Meng Wanzhou's arrest, it helps to know that Huawei is one of the largest telecommunications equipment and services providers in the world - as well as a symbol of China's ambition and innovation.

So when a top executive - who also happens to be the daughter of the firm's founder - was arrested in Vancouver it sparked an immediate response.

When news broke that Ms Meng had been detained, China's embassy in Canada was quick to protest the arrest and demand her release.

Chinese officials have called her arrest a "serious mistake" and accused Canada of double standards and "Western egotism and white supremacy".

There were threats of "grave consequences" if Ms Meng was not released.

Not long after her arrest, two Canadians - former diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Michael Spavor - were detained in China on allegations of endangering Chinese national security.

What are the US charges?

Ah! The sauce?

The indictment alleges Huawei misled the US and a global bank about its relationship with two subsidiaries, Huawei Device USA and Skycom Tech, to conduct business with Iran.

Uhh… what laws do this break exactly? Why should I care?

A second indictment alleges Huawei stole technology from phone company T-Mobile used to test smartphone durability, as well as obstructed justice and committed wire fraud, which Huawei says was settled in a civil case filed in 2014.

What is the nature of this wire fraud? As for the "stolen" technology, I would personally prefer everyone to have access to any technology needed. There is still my other question: How can this situation be resolved? I have seen no solid demands on the part of the US government.

Chinese officials have called it a US attempt to "smear and suppress certain Chinese companies".

I'm leaning towards China's side on this issue ATM, as I see no solid demands or good reasoning to arrest a foreign citizen for US (?) laws.

Donald Trump…

has twice suggested he would intervene in the US Justice Department's case against Ms Meng if it would serve national security interests or help achieve a trade deal with China.

What I am wondering is which type of trade deal he is looking to achieve, as nothing about it is said or linked.

You're a liberal, I wouldn't necessary call you a leftist per se. It's semantics, I know, but a liberal is someone who, in my eyes, is not a true believer but just believes what they do because it's what society does. If you were born 700 years ago monarchy would have been normal and democracy would have been horrific (which should be the case today, IMO).

Ayy, no! I don't like what society does at all! I'm not even close to that!

At one point, I independently came up with the idea of giving things away for free, like in the free software movement, but in real life. Apparently, this coincided with "Anarcho-Communism". Before this, I thought that "communist" meant "evil dictatorship", as I was going with society, but now, I don't.

I don't even go with the herd on "communist" subs, because both /r/Communism and /r/Anarchism have rejected me to say the least…

I'm aware of what the formal definitions are, but I've viewed communism as having evolved, especially considering cultural marxism.

Definitions of these annoy me a lot. I should be called communist, but the fact is that my ideas come from free culture and freedom of speech rather than the ideology: Copyright makes illegal numbers, and that is silly and violates freedom of speech; Copyright is how many artists make money and making money is how most artists get food; the farmers demand money because they must pay bills, one notable one being property tax to the government, which is the only thing one really needs to pay, at a base level, to get food and resources; therefore, property tax is the reason for copyright, as well as enslaving people to the government and the existing "capitalist" economy, violating an individual's right to self-determination. Basically, people demand money, but why do we even need money? Why not just give for free, not worrying about all this accounting? One very big obstacle is, again, property tax. There may be more obstacles, but to fully explain this and clarify what I am saying (at the moment I am dissatisfied with the amount of articulation in my explanation of my ideology), it would take a very long time and many, many re-writes. One thing I didn't address in this paragraph, for example, is potential resource scarcity.

I don't consider leftists to be people because they don't believe in agency and seem to have none, the NPC meme I felt was very spot-on.

Ah, but I, as a leftist, do believe in free agency, very very strongly. Perhaps that is why so many leftists like banning me despite being leftist myself; I was banned from /r/Communism for posting about Anarkikomunismolando, and banned from /r/Anarchism for believing in free speech for everyone including fascists and for my opinions regarding child pornography which are very complicated (too complicated to explain right now at least), but over-simplified by them into "raping children is fine", which I do not believe. I think this distortion was a part of some kind of Delphi Technique they were doing, possibly to make me look worse for my other opinion.

In short: my ideology is quite a lot different from what society does, and is, unfortunately, very hard to explain due to how different it is.

Do people like Martin Luther King count as politicians? Because they have made the world a better place.

The problem with Voat - and a growing problem on this site as well - lies in the way they treat dissenting opinions. Arguments which are well-made but disagree with one's opinions are punished, while cheap jabs at the "wrong opinions" are rewarded by the hugbox.

I think that is less of a problem on this site than others, and this is why I like it here…

Observe the comment by anorganicbear or EndlessSunflowers, for instance.

…but yes, those comments are definitely low-quality exceptions. Has anyone mentioned this to /u/anorganicbear and /u/EndlessSunflowers yet? We really should strive to do better than this.

Beware of anyone calling for REVOLUTION. This is precisely what many of the rulers desire. They create social unrest in order to get the people to rise up and beg for government tyranny w/o even realizing what they’re doing. by Jesus in conspiracy

I believe in a libertarian revolution, and don't see how that can beg for government tyranny. Also, can't a revolution be non-violent?

Does Magnora have any proof of the banned subreddits here doing that, too?

You are right, that /u/Magnora7 really should have proof; I agree with this point.

Are you a moron? Honest question.

People usually don't get themselves tested for this, so I doubt /u/Zombi can actually answer.

You're a limp-wristed faggot leftist. I bet you're not even 18 year thinking you know it all, too. If you're over 18 then I'd be ashamed for your sake.

This is completely unfounded as well as extremely low on the pyramid. Are you trying to get banned, maybe as ammo against SaidIt?

/u/Troll, please respect the pyramid of debate. This debate should be finished, and not ruined due to a lack of self-control resulting in your ban :( . I can even help review your comments if you like.

About /r/Anarchism, I believe /s/Anarchism is actually a private sub on this site, so I wouldn't say it's supported too much as a group (rather than an ideology, which itself often does not advocate for violence. The group though, can be pretty bad. )

On to some other points:

I'm just at the understanding that the left isn't someone you debate with, like how you don't debate someone trying to kill you. You don't debate ISIS on why what they're doing is wrong, because they don't care.

Why? I, as a very open-minded, independant-thinking leftist, am very welcoming of debate. Maybe some leftists might be crazy, but usually, any group comprises much more than crazy strawmen, even if some crazy strawmen exist.

You certainly didn't want to talk about it (and made some other statement very much against the Holy Pyramid of Debate).

I agree, that this probably was not a very good action in terms of the pyramid.

Anyways, Communists are not people.

Some definitions:

communist: n1. An advocate of a society based on the common ownership of property; a proponent of communism.

advocate: n3. A person who speaks in support of something.

By definition, communists are people, no matter how harmful certain communists may be.

This type of thinking is really against the spirit of SaidIt in my opinion, which tends to promote understanding between people with different viewpoints. Please remember to be open-minded (this goes for everyone reading this)!

Coontown had excellent policies against calls to violence, and this was admitted by two CEOs of reddit. Furthermore, it was not against the existence of all blacks. We even had a few blacks who agreed with us, and many of us were Thomas Sowell fans.

This is a potentially good point, and should be discussed further with more evidence.

Please stop name-calling and using such divisive language – it brings your post down on the pyramid. I think you can still make the same point with less divisive language:

You seem to be acting like Reddit admins often do, confusing the act of saying something you disagree with as going against the policy, which in this case is the pyramid of debate. You weren't even able to follow these rules yourself when I attempted to discuss this a week or two ago, and I feel that this greatly harms both your integrity and the integrity of SaidIt as a whole.

Hopefully that makes the same point, while being a bit higher on the pyramid?
