Well. Google took part in the recent ban wave, so what do you think? I recently started trying out other search engines, no reason to stick with the one that decides for me what I want to see.

What do you expect when one of their executives admits they want to influence the 2020 election and "prevent the next Trump situation"?

All the top search engines are incredibly biased in many ways.

Isn't this only showing searches for democratic candidates though? So even if a state mostly searches for Republican candidates, it doesn't matter as it is only paying attention to democrat ones, which there will usually be at least some searches for. A similar map could probably be made of searches for Linux distros, but that wouldn't imply that Linux is the majority operating system in most states.

Also, just because one is searching for a democratic candidate doesn't mean one supports them. One could very well search a candidate they don't like to read bad things about them, or search a candidate they don't have an opinion on to form an opinion about them.

well sure it could--but it's not the default view offered by asking google what people are searching for.

If I opened the google trends page and saw a heading, "Operating Systems" and the only thing was a list of Linux distros, I would have the same issue. What about iOS or Windows? or web TV lol.

all I typed in was "top google searches" and google offered me Google Trends page as a starting point to its top-searched terms. Then I saw a map of blue states, and states that were even more blue. And then I felt blue.

Insightful and funny! (Because it's such a different perspective than I had before, I guess, and because it's funny to imagine Google highlighting only Linux searches). You make a very good point!

I'm sure they are searching for "democratic party" but it doesn't mean they are showing support for it.

search "land grab South Africa" on google, then on duckduckgo.

It just like polls. Since the first poll Trump has always been 'behind' so the news is always 'trump catching up to biden' when we know it's all BS.
