Is it really a complete monopoly though? In most areas, plenty of alternatives exist; people are just reluctant to switch to them. It may be hard, but it is possible, as evidenced by the fact that we are not discussing this on Reddit right now.

Even though I use a lot of alternative tech, I would say that there is a monopoly, or something close to it. Do you know how many global search engines exist? Two, maybe three, depending on how you count it. The first two are owned by Microsoft, and Google.

Until enough people decide that keeping their kids brains safe from exploitation and themselves out of the dopamine-hit revolving door, it's just going to keep going.
