Child porn I would not defend, real children are harmed in making that. People that abuse children should be in prison. I personally have no interest in a child sex doll, but if my neighbor wants to fuck a piece of plastic in the privacy of his own home, and doesn't hurt anyone while doing it, it's really not any of my business. My interest isn't in protecting the paedos, its from protecting individuals from people like you who would criminalize people that haven't hurt anyone, just because they go against your moral values. People like you are why we have had things like alcohol prohibition, censorship and the like. Society doesn't get to criminalize immorality, they get to criminalize harmful behavior where there is an actual victim

If dude wants to fuck a piece of plastic, I don't much care what that piece of plastic looks like, or whether or not you approve of it. There is no such thing as a 'thought crime' or 'pre-crime', reserve your death sentences for people who commit actual crimes

Anyone defending this guys should also face the death penalty because they're obviously paedophiles too.

Man arrested for masturbating at beach claims he wasn't pleasuring himself because he 'can move his penis in ways that most men can't without touching it' by Antarchomachus in NotTheOnion

[–]Antarchomachus[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Mr Chilsolm objected to the term 'masturbating' because he has a 'talent' for moving his penis 'without touching it'.

'He says he can move his penis sideways and up and down in ways that most men can't without touching it,' Mr Maley said, according to the NT News.

'It's something that he has a talent [for, that] he has developed over the years through regular use.'

The court heard a 38-year-old man saw what he was doing and told him to stop, before an argument broke out and police were called.

The witness said that no one should be made to feel uncomfortable on a beach, and explained that the teenagers did not consent to the self-gratification.

Appreciate the reply, its not often I get a chance to discuss race without dogmatism and strong feelings making it difficult.

Nobody shits on Japan for wanted to remain Japanese.

I get this, and I think there is a very strong case to be made for homogeneity of people making governing smoother. My counter question has more to do with how we are defining an 'ethnic' group. A state of Japanese people, to me is analogous to a state of German people, or Irish people, this a real 'ethnic' group. However, I would say something like white-nationalism is more akin to a state of 'all asians'. There is not as much of a cultural, genetic, or historical 'sameness' here, and I would also say that an Asian Ethno-State that didn't discriminate between Japanese and Korean would sound very strange to me in the same why white nationalism does. I guess what I am saying is, I am not so sure how to define an 'ethnic group' in terms of this ideology, it seems less than clear to me precisely how to draw this distinction.

I don't want to live in a black neighborhood, hearing gun shots every day, not being able to go out at night, not being able to safely leave a gate. I've lived in some ghetto ass areas and I pay a lot not to now. Is that racist?

No, definitely not. In my mind it becomes racism only if you prefer a neighborhood of poor white criminals to wealthy law-abiding blacks. I wouldn't say there is anything 'wrong' with this, people can prefer whatever they like, but I think it be quite stupid, and would qualify as 'racism'. If racism stopped here, I wouldn't really have a problem with it, but when ideologies are centered around beliefs like this, they seem to become harmful in ways that transcend self-segregation.

Would you go down a dark alleyway with a black guy there, just to prove you're not racist? Would you mind if your wife or daughter did? What percentage, what threshold of potential harm satisfies racial sensitivity. Or is the smart thing just not to walk down a dark alleyway at night. I think we just need to accept that black people are more prone to violence and act accordingly and not condemn what's common sense out of concern for people's feelings.

Here I actually agree with you, it makes sense to apply a probabilistic heuristic in this case. I would certainly avoid the alley with unknown black man in it, and make sure my family did too.

Also completely agree that the racial sensitivity is at an outrageous level, and by no means would I want to endorse any sort of wokism. I personally think there is a line where racism and wokism both go too far. I admit I'm not exactly sure where the lines are myself, but I appreciate being able to converse with someone objectively about this

[–]Antarchomachus[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't deny that Blacks are over represented in crime statistics, and I realize that you cannot account for all of it with economics and police discrimination.

I also realize you are not a bigot, but bigots use this logic to project the assumption of criminality onto ALL black people. It is a probabilistic argument, a heuristic if you will. I worry about this leading to the thinking of the debatealtwhite types, where their idea of a perfect society is all white people, because they statistically have more desirable traits (by their selection criteria). But this completely misses the fact that if we actually selected for the desirable traits rather than using a heuristic, the optimal society would exclude some unworthy whites, and include some worthy blacks, meaning the optimal society isn't racially based at all. This use of race as a heuristic seems to me to completely miss the point.

Personally, I am not sure it is even possible to talk about race in a constructive way, but I rarely talk to anyone about this that is capable of objectivity on this issue, so I am curious as to what your thoughts are on this.

Did Hitler ever invoke emergency powers? by kiwiheretic in history

[–]Antarchomachus 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Looked up the history of this particular arrangement, it goes back a long ways.

"The need for powers that exceed ordinary limits emerged along with the concept of limited republican, or constitutional, government in ancient Rome. When confronted with a direct threat to the constitutional system itself, the Roman Senate could decide to appoint a dictator for a period of no more than six months. During that time, however, the dictator exercised unrestrained power, limited only by that individual’s own commitment to the republic itself."

This provision was revived in the modern era first by Niccolò Machiavelli, who defended the assignment of extraordinary power to a ruler to make it possible to save a society as well as its political institutions.

The conviction that a constitutional system required the ability to cope with unexpected and immediate threats was embraced by John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

This practice was particularly essential in the constitution of Weimar Germany, which came into effect after World War I. The emergency provisions in the Weimar constitution were invoked more than 200 times, initially to combat violent insurrection and direct threats to the maintenance of the constitutional system itself. In the early 1930s, however, these provisions were invoked with increasing frequency to combat a wide range of social and domestic problems, including economic failure. Although these provisions probably allowed Weimar Germany to survive, ultimately, these provisions also allowed Adolf Hitler to seize and consolidate his power, formally exercising the constitution’s emergency powers as chancellor in 1933. Hitler’s exercise of power found intellectual support in the writing of the jurist Carl Schmitt, who insisted that no constitution can possibly provide for all contingencies and that the executive must be able to act beyond the limits of ordinary law if liberal democracy itself is to survive.

Thing is, we do know what caused the inflation, and it isn't the corporations, even if they are taking advantage of it.

The supply chain problems reduced the supply of goods, and then Biden flushed the economy with borrowed cash increasing the demand for goods that were already scarce, causing prices to spike. This is Macroeconomics 101. These corporations simply take advantage of the already existing inflation to increase profit, they can't cause it on their own without a supply chain crisis and irresponsible cash printing

I would add my point wasn't really about about America. My point is that 'radicalization' is a means, and not an ends.

Most of the time when people criticize a means, they would support the same means for their own preferred ends. For example, the majority of the population condemns violence in protests, but the same majority will often condone violence in times of war, or dealing with criminals. So it really isn't the violence or 'radicalization' that is being objected to, it is the cause.

Yeah agree with you jet. I think the OP is a bit extreme given the content of the video. Yes, that was an assault, but the victim got up and walked away relatively unharmed. The girl should be expelled for sure, but charging a kid as an adult makes no sense unless we are talking about a serious beating. I'm not sure that was even worth prosecuting, literally every male child gets into some sort of scuffle like that at school, its frightening to think of the amount of assault charges this would lead to.

Elon Musk will 'increase' the range of your Tesla, by unlocking the artificially blocked capacity of the battery via a software update.

That we would seek to arrange the basis of trade on this type of artificially exploitative arrangement is insane, whether they are able to do it well or not.

Let me try to explain myself better, because I agree with what you are saying.

The point I am attempting to make is about taking on the psychological burden of an entire society

This isn't healthy, and can make you fucking depressed.

Ultimately I can't control human civilization as a whole, just like I can't control the height of a mountain. I wouldn't identify the mountain with any type of internal 'we', even if I live on the mountain and have a stake in it. Civilization is external in the same way, but it isn't even a real 'thing', it is just a concept. Taking on the psychological burden for all of humanity is too much, and it is ultimately a choice. For me a change in the way I related myself to society was helpful in relieving this burden. Yes I care about the state of the society I live in, and my choices matter - but my choices are all that I can control and be responsible for.

I am merely relating to OP what was helpful to me in achieving a healthier outlook for my own life, as I know this can be a difficult thing to struggle with.

have you ever been in love? by [deleted] in AskSaidIt

[–]Antarchomachus 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Teenage love is the worst, so embarrassing. It counts even though, at least in my case, it never actually came close to the fully formed version I’ve experienced as an adult. It’s not necessary to me to differentiate between loving and being in love.

I think we might be using these terms in different ways. I think that early stages of a relationship are driven by 'passion' which implies that I am primarily motivated by a selfish hedonism. Being in love feels exciting and invigorating, and can be addicting, so I pursue it. This might help you form a more meaningful bond with a person, but on its own is unsustainable as the basis of a long term relationship.

Love, to me, means something different. I am perfectly willing to sacrifice my own hedonistic pleasure to make someone I love happy or limit their suffering. The motivation may still be selfish (I can't stand to see people I love suffer, and I want to avoid that, or I am getting fulfillment from their happiness), but the behavior isn't, and I think that is what makes this 'love' something different than 'being in love', at least how I am using these words.

I used to feel this way, but I learned how have a healthier outlook about these things.

Yes, society is inherently bad, and civilization is probably collapsing - but who cares, fuck them anyway.

When society did something stupid, and I felt like we did it, it made me 'doomy'.

You need to stop thinking about society in terms of 'we', and think about it as a feature of your environment like a mountain or a river. This way you can put emotional distance between those negative thoughts that you rightfully have, and your own feelings. You are only a doomer if you are emotionally invested in the well-being of civilization, which I would say you shouldn't be if you hold those beliefs about it's inherent 'badness'.

I truly hope something I said helps you, I know from personal experience that the mindset of 'doomering' is not good for your psychological health, and can be tough to get out of.

The distinction between a semi automatic gun and a machine gun is not arbitrary. The law is clear-cut on what is a machine gun.

Clear cut and un-arbitrary are not the same. I can draw the line on magazine capacity at 10 or 19 or 20 or whatever number of bullets. It is very clear-cut, but also completely arbitrary. You can have this gun, but it can only shoot so many bullets per second/trigger pull is still somewhat arbitrary as well.

The mass shootings involving handguns (e.g. virginia tech) are often just as deadly as ones involving assault rifles - it's just not that difficult to massacre a bunch of unarmed civilians with any kind of modern firearm. A non-arbitrary distinction would be 'no rocket launchers', 'no nuclear warheads', which clearly diverge from the intent of the constitution to allow people to carry portable handheld bullet shooters. Its not that clear that there was any intent to limit the effectiveness of the firearms carried by the populace - in fact I'd suggest their experience with the revolutionary war meant their intention was just the opposite.

They were also arrested and charged for having unregistered guns and unregistered silencers.

I'll grant that this is not arbitrary.

Anyways, to get back to my original point

If this was a couple of Jewish guys stashing illegal weapons in Hitler-led Germany would you apply the same standards?

Yes, they broke the law, they got caught, time to face the consequences.

This was my concern, but I seem to have misread your intent. So many of the quotations were about the ideology of these guys that I inferred this was the reason for the post. It seems this is not the case, and I commend the fact that you would be objective about people found to break the law regardless of whether you view that person as being in your 'in' or 'out' group.

'He said he was looking for someone to perform masturbation on him with cheese,' Ms Chest told the Daily News. 'He kept saying how strong his urges were and how desperate he was to find someone to help him with them.'

I love the way Swiss cheese feels against my penis. Either as slices of Swiss cheese being wrapped around my penis or a chunk of Swiss cheese being rubbed against my penis,' he wrote.

'I was able to wrap and wear a good 1 ½ pounds of Swiss cheese against my penis, and wear the Swiss cheese for hours at a time, before I would climax from just having the Swiss cheese on my penis,' Chris wrote.

This is kinda my point. With rent on a 1BR apartment going for 3k a month, the homelessness is unsurprising. Even someone like you who is obviously quite capable and intelligent claim to have experienced homelessness here. Yes SF is a shit hole, but demonizing a few homeless addicts and sweeping them off the street, doesn't even begin to address the social and economic problems that cause these kinds of issues in the first place

Hey Shalom, agree these particular fellows are concerning, but I'm going to try to challenge your perspective a bit, and maybe have mine challenged as well.

Federal prosecutors have charged an “alt-right” podcaster who espoused strong anti-government views with assembling an arsenal of weapons

Looks like this white supremacist and his father were gearing up for a race war.

It does in this instance, but I would urge caution with generalizations like this. I'm not a white supremacist, but I do hold anti-governmental views, so this kind of talk worries me in that it sounds like we are trying these guys in the court of public opinion for:

  1. Having the wrong opinions

  2. A violent crime they never actually committed (pre-crime if you will)

The only real crime here is a possessions charge based on a pretty arbitrary distinction between classes of firearms, which admittedly they knowingly failed to follow.

Personally I think racism is stupid, and my distaste for it stems from that, but as someone who holds views that are often unpopular or outside the norm, I also am sensitive to discriminating against people based on not liking their beliefs. If this was a couple of Jewish guys stashing illegal weapons in Hitler-led Germany would you apply the same standards?

Again, my intention isn't to defend these guys, and I think in this instance you are probably right that arresting these guys was in the public interest. My intent is more to discuss objectivity in general, and how to maintain fairness when dealing with people we have strong distaste for.

Most of these drug addicts were originally hooked on legally prescribed opiod drugs, and turn to this other crap because it is cheaper and easier to get. If we didn't abusively prescribe these addictive drugs for profit, and then make effective treatments such as suboxone impossible to obtain, we wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

Yeah I feel ya, if Mayor Adams wants to tell people this music is bad, and convince them not to listen to it, more power to him. Free speech should absolutely mean that he has the right to criticize something, I just don't want this to turn into some new hyper wokeness where they start to legislate what speech is illegal for the 'public good' (I'm thinking along the lines of vaccine 'misinformation'). I think there is a philosophical parallel here, and the Dems have shown themselves to be untrustworthy regarding enforcing speech lately.

Balancing freedom with the public good is a really tough balancing act, and the left has been really shaky on this issue of late.
