I think after the burning of the Reichstag (The national congress building in Germany) he invoked the emergency powers that basically made him dictator for life.

But I'm sure there likely were earlier attempts at him trying to grab power through emergency acts, I would be curious to learn about them too.

This is a response I found on wikipedia (which may not be considered an authoritative historical source).

Four weeks into his chancellorship, the Reichstag building caught fire in the middle of the night.[4] Hitler blamed the incident on the communists and was convinced the arson was part of a larger effort to overthrow the German government. Using this justification, Hitler persuaded Hindenburg to enact the Reichstag Fire Decree. The decree abolished most civil liberties including the right to speak, assemble, protest, and due process. Using the decree the Nazis declared a state of emergency and began to arrest, intimidate, and purge his political enemies.

It seems to me that there really was insufficient grounds for accessing these emergency powers. I wonder why the others in the parliament didn't question whether it was just cause or not.

What you found is about right, my grandparents lived through the nazi control. My uncle went to prision never to be seen again when he refused to do the salute for a commander passing by.

I think it was more a case of the straw which broke the camel's back.

Germany had been swinging in and out of chaos for years by that point. Even though the German economy and political scene were not too bad at that moment a lot of people had got to the end of what they could stand and what stability there was they gave credit to Hitler for.

Edit, didn't he win a majority in an election after this? The idea he schemed, forced or lucked his way to power is common but really he did all that and then people voted it in as well.

Edit, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1934_German_referendum Won by 90%. Really no one can blame that on backstage political manoeuvring, lying or chance. People knew full well what they were voting for at that point. But much like with the vax mandates many people want to fantasise they are the good guys and those being attacked by the government are evil people who deserve it.

Hitler intentionally lost world war 2 so that the state of Israel could be founded. Hitler dedicated his life so that the world would be exactly as it is now. He's the very definition of false flag. He was a satanic worshipper just like Jeffrey Epstein. He worked for the same people Epstein was working for. They create the heroes and they create the villains. Hitler didn't kill himself in 1945, he was protected by the allies when the war ended.

Hitler was literally trying to win the war right up to the last minute as his government were desperately trying to surrender to save their skins, but you enjoy your evidence free fanfic.

His interest was that the strongest survived. When the Russians started winning he simply said that if they won then that proved the future belonged to them rather than the Germans. There was nothing complicated or clandestine about his views.

No, Hitler was trying to lose all along. Check out this photo of Hitler standing on top of a building that closely resembles the temple on Epstein's Island. Symbolism truly will be their downfall. They all serve the same master. Hitler invaded Russia and declared war on America within 6 months of each other. He was absolutely trying to lose on purpose. He played his role perfectly and deceived everyone, including you.

Hitler was controlled opposition, the jewish elite are actually a babylonian cult since the days of Ashurbanipal. This striped building on Epstein island is a modern reconstruction of the sacred shrine which stood upon the ancient ziggurats and are the site of ritual child sacrifice to appease the deities of this ancient cult and also where the main leaders of these cults gather.

World War II existed so the jews would be given Israel, with this in place the jews would enslave the world under their financial system and then recreate the so-called Third temple which will be a merging of jewish and babylonian architecture to usher in a new global theocracy ruled by one jewish messianic king.

Had Hitler won, there would have been a Jewish state too. Only it would have been under SS oversight, to ensure that they fulfilled the vision of Theodor Herzl: to become self-sufficient - to become a normal and decent nation.

I wonder why the others in the parliament didn't question whether it was just cause or not.

Probably because the building where they would normally come to such a decision had just burned down. The ensuing chaos probably made it difficult for a counter-movement to form quickly enough. Not to mention the slower speed at which information moved back then compared to now.

The Reichstag didn't burn down. The fire was small and limited to a small area of the building. All factions proceeded to take advantage of the situation, and at the end the national socialists ended up on top. Yes the arsonist was a leftist.

The law is only as strong as those willing to enforce it. Germany was in ruins after WWI, and the preceding democratic socialist government had only made things worse with their economic policies, so presumably most Germans in the ruling class were willing to look the other way to let the new government clean up the mess.

Plus, it wasn't complete propaganda that communists wanted to overthrow the German government. For years, communist groups in Germany had been committing acts of violence against their political rivals, including the Nazis. That violence actually helped the Nazis assume power in elections, since they advertised themselves as bringers of law and order, where the communists wanted to burn everything down.

Whether the Reichstag fire was an act of arson by actual communists, or a really believable false flag, we'll never know for sure.

Interesting, but I guess not surprising that the legacy of using 'Emergency Powers' for tyrannical purposes goes back this far.

Yes and even more interesting that he got it passed as a minority government.

Looked up the history of this particular arrangement, it goes back a long ways.

"The need for powers that exceed ordinary limits emerged along with the concept of limited republican, or constitutional, government in ancient Rome. When confronted with a direct threat to the constitutional system itself, the Roman Senate could decide to appoint a dictator for a period of no more than six months. During that time, however, the dictator exercised unrestrained power, limited only by that individual’s own commitment to the republic itself."

This provision was revived in the modern era first by Niccolò Machiavelli, who defended the assignment of extraordinary power to a ruler to make it possible to save a society as well as its political institutions.

The conviction that a constitutional system required the ability to cope with unexpected and immediate threats was embraced by John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

This practice was particularly essential in the constitution of Weimar Germany, which came into effect after World War I. The emergency provisions in the Weimar constitution were invoked more than 200 times, initially to combat violent insurrection and direct threats to the maintenance of the constitutional system itself. In the early 1930s, however, these provisions were invoked with increasing frequency to combat a wide range of social and domestic problems, including economic failure. Although these provisions probably allowed Weimar Germany to survive, ultimately, these provisions also allowed Adolf Hitler to seize and consolidate his power, formally exercising the constitution’s emergency powers as chancellor in 1933. Hitler’s exercise of power found intellectual support in the writing of the jurist Carl Schmitt, who insisted that no constitution can possibly provide for all contingencies and that the executive must be able to act beyond the limits of ordinary law if liberal democracy itself is to survive.

“The exception is more interesting than the rule. The rule proves nothing; the exception proves everything. In the exception the power of real life breaks through the crust of a mechanism that has become torpid by repetition.”

“Sovereign is he who decides on the exception.”

Schmitt is a fantastic read for anyone serious about political and legal philosophy. The Concept of the Political and Crisis of Parliamentary Democracy are must reads for people with brains.

If only a Christian populist with Feder like policies came to America to expel and arrest all the criminals on wallstreet and in high finance like Hitler did.

The incident is called Night of the Long Knives. Hitler declared that there was some conspiracy against him, claimed his right on the "principle of the leader" and had the original National Socialists executed so that he could forfeit the original NSDAP program. Röhm and Strasser were the most eminent victims.

I educated myself about mr adolph. to seize power, he and his crew killed all persons that opposed him.

i would call that invoking the emergencies act.

Sure, and I want to put my cronies in position to do the same. I'm a fascist for truth, for justice against predatory finance, medical malpractice, usury, etc.

Do I support Hitler? No! I support Christ and the mystical body of Christ, which must supplant the political system that worships mammon and refuses to live in the image of Him.
