Looks like adams is against freedom of expression. Bringing up trump being thrown off of Twitter is a bad example. Which drill rappers egged crowds on and were responsible for an insurrection on the American capitol? That's why trump was thrown off of Twitter.

The Democratic party has lost my support with their newfound lust for censorship and other authoritarianism. They are acting like conservatives

Democrats and republicans are two different sides of the same corrupt coin.

Newfound???
Democrats will take your money with taxes and take your guns
Republicans will take your money with taxes but you get to keep your guns

Its clearly not that simple.

Which party always doesnt want to let me smoke marijuana? Thats right, the republicans.

Who have traditionally been for censorship in the USA? The Evangelical Christian right. https://journals.ala.org/index.php/jifp/article/view/7208/10294

Republicans are considered the party of 'law and order'.

Granted I vehemently disagree with Democrats on gun control, but it's not like the Republicans are anti-authoritarian either, they just want to enforce different shit.

You say that but when Democrats legalize marijuana, it goes horribly wrong

Yeah you are right about that. Still, I'll take paying more and not having my behavior criminalized.

I can't honestly tell you I think the Dems are less authoritarian than the Republicans. My original comments had more to do with the fact that the left has traditionally at least been on the side of freedom of speech. My problem is that they are abandoning this and they are becoming more authoritarian in other ways as well, not that I didn't think they were already.

Describes the mayor being against something yet doesn't describe what "drill rap" is? What a worthless article.

But yeah, rap as a genre overall is garbage. So if drill rap is like most other inner city rap, glorifying murder, drugs, and treating your neighbors likes shit, I'd guess this is an issue that I might actually agree with Adams on.

[–]Antarchomachus[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I don't think the point is that drill rap is good, I'm sure its terrible. But when we let people choose to censor speech they don't agree with, any of us could find ourselves on the receiving end.

I agree. But on the other hand, there's zero chance of some lefty mayor doing that. However, having a public figure letting people know this music is cancer could still be beneficial.

[–]Antarchomachus[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah I feel ya, if Mayor Adams wants to tell people this music is bad, and convince them not to listen to it, more power to him. Free speech should absolutely mean that he has the right to criticize something, I just don't want this to turn into some new hyper wokeness where they start to legislate what speech is illegal for the 'public good' (I'm thinking along the lines of vaccine 'misinformation'). I think there is a philosophical parallel here, and the Dems have shown themselves to be untrustworthy regarding enforcing speech lately.

Balancing freedom with the public good is a really tough balancing act, and the left has been really shaky on this issue of late.

How about him declaring war on pot holes on his roads and bridges? You know, something he can address.
