Yunohost with their built in XMPP-server is the solution that allows everyone to host their own text message service. Text securely from iphone and androids, all the computers, web and whatever, supports rooms, media uploads. Communicate with everyone else that have their own servers.

I also subscribe to youtube and instagram style platforms through the same account and get it in the same feed. I run a dedicated script that converts RSS to AP, so I subscribe to newssites through Mastodon too.
