The media changed the definition of "alt right" to mean a centrist liberal who thinks for themselves.

They changed the definition of left liberal to full blown Communist.

So the only change was the media's definition. Nothing else changed.

I think you'll want to define both of these categories.

Not alt right, but used to be progressive atheist.

My first turn began when I realized that the logical conclusion of atheism was nihilism. Also noticed that on the left end on the spectrum almost nobody cared about logic or reason. They were simply tools used by the left to defend what they already believed, rather than guides to discover facts about reality, and I started reading viewpoints different from my own and seeing if they made sense. The conclusion is that ALL truth is absolute simply by what the word “truth” means, and that reality does not care what you feel or believe. Eventually found God.

I forgot who said this but there are two conclusions you can make from nihilism. One is that nothing matters therfore there is no point in doing anything. The other is that nothing matters therfore you can do anything.

Since no one else is posting about actually changing political stances I'll post mine even though it doesn't fit the extreme categories.

On abortion I was pro choice: the government has no buisness meddling in that decision. But listening to Ben Shapiro I realized that there is a strong argument that the government has an obligation to protect the life of defenseless children the same as it protects kids from being raped by thier own parents. He makes a lot of good points with regards to a lot of the arguments surrounding the issue, but I was never dumb enough to buy into any of those anyway, so it really just came down to that one point.

With regards to inequality, having gone through chicago public schools I was heavily brainwashed with what is now called critical race theory. As a child the disparities of intelligence, character, integrity, ambition, and work ethic all easily overlooked. The disparities were obvious but seemed so minor, especially when grades were adjusted by teachers and most kids were immature unambitious and preoccupied with games. So it was easy to accept the claims that were made about why there are racial attainment disparities.

Then I grew up and they didn't. I realized at some point that they weren't going to. I watched my extremely diverse group of friends and acquaintances play out thier stereotypes to a T, and I had to accept that stereotypes exist for a reason. I watched as thier decisions shaped thier future. I realized that everything I was told about racist forces determining success was not only wrong but literally the opposite of what was claimed. Minority status afforded horrible people endless second chances, undeserved promotions, and unending leeway for incompetence. The workplace was in fact filled with racism, but it was anti white racism. And despite this racism at every turn white people still outperformed non white peers.

With regards to socialism, it went without question that if I just had the money I could start a buisness and be rich like all the other privileged rich people. Obviously the thing that holds all us poor people back is the oppression of poverty. But when I finally saved enough money to start my own buisness I realized it just isn't that easy. Having grown up poor I never realized how much money average people have. But being a grownup I realize that people regularly buy brand new cars. They go to the movies, buy new clothes, regularly eat at restaurants. The amount of money people spend on alcohol and entertainment is fucking embarrassing.

Every single middle class person makes enough to start thier own buisness. But they don't. It was never about not having enough money. If they had more money they would just buy more toys.

I realized that no amount of redistribution can change peoples nature. Every bit that is redistributed is take from the doers and given to the consumers. Every bit slows down progress and advancement to the detriment of everyone.

You should post a better-worded version of this question to s/DebateAltRight. "Alt-Right" is kind of a dirty word now but basically means "any race-aware conservative white person" but leftist is more derogatory. The people you want to answer this question usually self-identify as "liberal" (or maybe SocDem). Leftists are like psychologically damaged people that could never be expected to accept and alt-right position (like antifa). We do see some white shitlibs (the former) convert, usually they cite race and IQ, race and crime, or heritability of political views for reasons why they switched.

Also, Alt-Right is more open to traditionally left-leaning welfare policies like Nordic Socialism. Often with the stipulation that this equation needs to be balanced with eugenics (and that the given society is entirely or mostly white, which goes without saying)

I'm not alt right but between them and the left I'd pick them. The straw for me was transgenderism. I mean obviously a person cannot change their gender with current technology. Pretending we can is some 1984 doublethink shit.

And because we militantly humored this ridiculous notion, it has spread as a social contagion, ruining people's lives who are suddenly obsessed about one stupid thing they can't do anything about. And most unforgivably, women cut off their tits over this. It's twisted.

I'm not entirely unconvinced this wasn't initially a foreign psyOp.

The straw for me was transgenderism.

Apparently rejecting Troons and their Troonology makes you Alt-Right. Thats how ridiculous it all is now. Its not "Left vs Right" its Common Sensible vs Retarded Dumb Fucks.

What about those socialists that still believe in socialism, but think it's best to start on a national level?

I used to be very close to a left party that although left it had some nationalist parts.

This whole thing was close to my beliefs but after some point I wondered: what the heck I am doing? Why do I hand out brochures of this party trying to be the good soldier of a think I don't even believe in? Why should we as lefts welcome all these immigrants-invaders to our lands?

I abandoned everything associated to them, and after spending some time alone, I now reform my ideology to national socialism.

I now think it's the closest to my beliefs
