I think a lot of that has to do with the same things being suppressed from discussion on other sites like reddit. That inherently creates a bias as those who align with such things are effectively silenced everywhere, but they can exist here. Also, even those who aren't so politically toxic may focus on those things and even use them to test the bounds of censorship.

Teamspeak is a few decades old. It's basically a simple voice-chat augmentation for games that has text channels to go with it.

IRC has been fun in the past, as it's pretty straight-forward, but complicated enough to keep most of the tards away... and by tards, I mean modern day obama-phone users looking at political memes on farcebook.

This site has an IRC chat embedded, which is kinda neat, but it's a bit buggy and resets frequently.

Anybody can run an irc server, even on the crappiest PC. Get a bunch together and form a network that stays up even if one or more go down.

I've never done that to anyone, though, and never really got why it would work so well. It's weird how women interact and what different things they focus on. I think it's already gone for the most part. Most people don't seem to realize it, and don't remember what we used to have, and how important it is.

I remember the days before most people had mobile phones, and I would get online to chat with random people, and met tons of great people and had a lot of fun talking about random things, even if we didn't have all the same opinions about life/politics.

That was during the time it was considered proper to only use aliases, and keep personal info off online interactions like chat rooms. All of those people have now vanished, and with the death of so many IM platforms like MSN, AIM, Yahoo, Skype, many IRC networks, etc., may never find them again. Part of me wants to, but another part of me wants to remember them positively, and not risk learning they are completely different people decades later, and ruin the image I have.

The whole situation is depressing. The golden era of the Internet went by in the blip of an eye, all within a single generation. I feel lucky to have experienced it, but equally more painful to know, and see it swept away while the world seems unconscious of it all.

I've found that most of my interactions now are negative.

If I post something well thought out, and useful, it usually gets ignored and buried.

But anybody responding to me 9 times out of 10 wants to argue over something trivial, defend some scummy company, or rant/flame/spam pejoratives without providing anything useful.

I find it unsettling that vehicles rely so much on computers for mission critical features like steering/gas/brake. I feel these should all be direct linkage and overridable in the event of a malfunction or failure. It seems like with newer vehicles, they are not.

It's not as bad as they make it out to be. You can hire a property manager who handles applicants/screening (weeds out problems before they start), as well as manages the books for about 10% of the rent. Doing it properly mitigates most of the problems. I have never had a problem myself, and just treat the small issues as a cost of doing business and budget accordingly.

For every outrage-bait story you hear about bad landlords and bad tenants, there are many more where people aren't jerks. For those inexperienced, and even moderately savvy with things, the property manager's services are worth it. The "professional tenants" (ones who apply to squat or cause problems) avoid the companies and experience people, and prey on the naive random person. They also make sure you (and your tenants) are in compliance with all the local laws, and know them well because they deal with it every day. If you ever rent a place out, I highly encourage utilizing a good property manager.

Since the USA is the biggest financier of Israel's military, they are playing to US politics to get support. They assume rightwing=support Israel, so creating a left-wing=supports palestine movement might gather some sympathy from those who vote blue and blindly agree with everything they read someone tells them it's a left-issue, and it appeals to their bleeding heart. At a passer by, it would appear they are doing good by banning things that are toxic, but it's a slippery slope.

They outright ban anything that doesn't match the admin's political views, while letting toxic behavior slide if it does align with their political views.
