This is quite serious and should be discussed more often. There is a former Bush Jr admin who mentions in an interview that this was part of the plan back in 2002/3, directly from Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense at that time. While attacking Afghanistan post 9/11, Israel provided false evidence of WMD in Iraq and plans for the US to attack Iraq, and much of the rest of the middle east (Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, etc).

[–]no_u 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

An excellent article.

Nope

The reason it's published at Cracked/Mad Magazine's website is because it's so dumb it's silly.

1st fallacy: nearly empty counties don't vote; people vote. If you want to see how PEOPLE voted in 2012, you have to look at a people-oriented map, like this one.

Fallacies 1 - 6: the election was NOT about rural vs urban groups; it was about dumbasses believing that a TV personality would clean the swamp (whereas he's been the worst swamp-scum to be elected to that position, after A. Jackson). The election was also HEAVILY promoted by Russia, AIPAC, Christo-fascist maga churches, Cambridge Analytica misinformaiton farms, GOP gerrymandering and voter manipulation, and much more.

Additional fallacies: city dwellers are so much better off than rural dwellers. Nope

Each point, 1-6, is a lie.

Was it easier to manipulate rural voters in 2012? Yes. Is that the main reason Trump was elected? Yes, in terms of the numerous manipulation tactics, lies and misinformation. No, in terms of "them country folk rose up and took back their country, dangit."

The fact that anyone would agree with this article at Cracked or elsewhere is informative of the continued influence of those lies on many new far right websites since 2011-12. Those who are benefitting are the .01%

I see a lot of posts and comments in the default subs that would also be welcome in DAR. So I am not sure if it's necessary to remove DAR from the default subs if the same kind of material remains on the front page. That said, DAR promotes fascist hatred in a manner that doesn't represent what Saidit has wanted to be from day one, noted here. I always like to see your comments, however, the few times you offer them, because you are always able to contribute to discussions in a reasonable manner (regardless if we agree). Regarding updates to Saidit, m7 needs a team to help with that (and I think he should pay D3 to come back to work on it).

Absolutely not. There are two centrists on Saidit these days, and literally every other user is far right. There is no condescension or gaslighting. I often get hostile responses and sometimes respond in the same way. Those are normal responses to hostility. The other centrist is incredibly nice to everyone. Sometimes I'm also nice, before I've had my morning coffee.

To Zapped's point: I'm here to see how Saiditors are responding to far right propaganda. There are several subreddits that also reveal similar information, but I've come to know many Saiditors - though virtually - and I am curious about your specific reactions. I also like to argue, but don't take it personally.

Vengeful bunnies and snails in medieval manuscripts were popular reminders of God's will for one's karma, and perhaps related to the argument in Matt 5:5 that the meek shall inherit the earth. But more to the point, the bunnies are performative, acting out a tragi-comedy. A 'comedy' in medieval Europe was often also a tragedy. Consequences for a hunter or a hound, hunted and killed by bunnies, are like morality plays. By definition, the Aristotelian tragedy results in 'peripeteia' - a reveral of expectations - at the moment of 'anagnorisis' - recognition of one's own identy (or the fate that one has been assigned). Hence bunny vengeance can be a fitting end for the most sinful. Early examples here.

So instead of knowing the subject you're discussing, you only have ad hominem, a false reading of the razor wire problem, and a youtube clip that's taken out of context? Read about the actual deportations. Read about the the facts. Also read about the types of border walls that are permitted, because the US is not a fucking Nazi prison camp, but considers human and animal safety in its laws. That video OBVIOUSLY takes Nadler's comments way out of context, which is about the PROPER REGULATION of immigration. It's a much longer discussion about a much bigger problem. This is NOT about razor wire violations. My view is that ALL illegal immigrants should be returned to their home countries and the people (INCLUDING REPUGLICANS) who hire them should be imprisoned and the key thrown away. You have NO way to refute anything I note further abote. Fuckface von Clownstick's INTENTIALLY increased illegal immigration and DECREASED deportations, by contrast with all other presidents - dating back to Reagan - who deported illegal immigrants by the millions. You've got absolutely nothing to challenge that statistic.

They're discussing Russian misinformation campaigns that mislead voters so that they would vote for Trump. That's the illegitimacy they're discussing. Cambridge Analytica and other companies, funded by wealthy doners and PACS spread sophisticated misinformation that discouraged voting and lied about democrats and their policies. This is very different from what Trump's team tried to do, which was to claim that the voting was seriously rigged in the states where he lost. The illegitimacy discussed in those videos are NOT claiming that Russians rigged the voting machines. There are always voting irregularities, for many reasons. Twitter users should try to understand the difference between those 2016 concerns about the misinformation campaigns, which were widely investigated and well known, and what Trump's lawyers tried to prove about voting numbers in states where he lost. Indeed, Trump has spread misinformation and disinformation daily since 2016. He was never presidential in any of his activities. He was illegitimate in his campaign and his role as president, though no one doubts that he was elected.

Yes, though I'd add:

Every individual user who wants to moderate a sub should PM u/Magnora7 with a request to moderate the sub, and give as evidence their post and comment history that they have behaved in good faith at Saidit. They should ask him on the weekends. This is because he's obviously not had the time to develop a broad plan for new mods and admins. What I've seen in the past year or so is that he'll consider individual requestions. And if the first proposal doesn't work, try again in a few weeks. What Saidit needs, /u/LarrySwinger2, is enough people who want to add posts and serve as mods. When D3 added mods a while ago, there was renewed activity, but it was not sustained, because not enough users here bother to upvote posts and get engaged. If posts are more interesting and more users are interested in them, I think that's what will help the most. (And agreed - mods have to be willing to remove the spam more often.)

Nah - the Americans and Europeans here have free speech (relatively). The far right whining about free speech is SOLELY about their interest in spreading division through hate speech, lies, disinformation, misinformation and other divisive methods, without ANYONE challenging those snowflakes. They should also be free enough to get responses to their divisive tactics. And you'll notice that numerous far right websites have been launched in recent years to spread that divisive speech. It's everywhere. It's on Twitter, ffs. The far right have all the free speech they want to spread lies and hatred, and they do. So they shouldn't whine like toddlers about their free speech options. (They don't have the freedom to cause harm.) But think of what that accomplishes. It's about destabilization. It's about chaos among the 99%, so that the LOUDEST remaining voices are spreading lies and hatred and calls for authoritarian leadership. Who will that benefit? ONLY the .01%. They'll continue to kill off Social Security, healthcare, human rights, women's rights, fair pay, unions, the environment, regulations of corporate corruption, etc, etc. Corporations will rule the banana republics, thanks to the corrupt, authoritarian leadership. You don't want that.

I appreciate the long, well-written arguments here, so my apologies if this seems like much too brief a response to it:

What you write is much too philosophical for what we all know about Rumble, BitChute, Odysee, 9gag, communities.win, pol, Breitbart, Fox, Washington Examiner, Epock Times, Newsmax, The Blaze, Daily Wire, National Review, Gateway Pundit, Infowars and many other far right websites, and what they are specifically required to do. They are obviously at the service of the GOP. If the GOP want to spread any of these conspiracies, they merely start that process with the network of far right websites, videos, and social media. They have ONE obvious task: divide people by spreading misinformation, so that we argue over those false claims. None of that material, in its original form, is provided altruistically. They are heavily funded. Rumble potentially committed fraud, though we could argue over the extent of that fraud. Currently we don't know. Rumble is certainly not an innocent free speech website. It's an extremely important far right tool.

That map directly supports what Pargin is saying - that people in urban centers vote for Democrats while people in rural areas, who are hurting, vote against Democrats.

No - there are many reasons for the differences between rural and urban voting tendencies - a century-old topic. Many in the cities are also struggling, by a much larger margin in some cases. Geographic determinism never explains this historical problem appropriately because there are more important factors regarding the access to information, education, jobs, &c. The onging problem is class warfare perpetuated by misinformation media and government abuses. This is NOT related to WHERE people are, but HOW people are. To conflate the two is absolutely ridiculous.

But it was. To the point where, for all our "personal opinions," for all the bad noise generated online, you can almost perfectly predict how an election will go just based on on population density.

No - not geographically determined, per my note above.

On aggregate, this is absolutely true. Denying it is silly. Salaries are much higher in cities, and it's far easier to find a six-figure job.

It would take too long to explain this, and still responses to me on Saidit will be that I kill myself, but here goes:

It costs more to live in cities and the majority of populations in cities are earning less than 50k/year, barely enough for 2 people to live on in the urban or suburban areas. Only a minority in the cities earn over 50k. For many in the cities, 80k/year is a struggling salary, with no savings, pension or guaranteed healthcare. In rural areas the cost of living is much lower, where salaries of 35k/year are the bare minimum. The wealthiest people tend to live in cities, but are a tiny minority. All three - urban, suburban, and rural areas - have been struggling under GOP-controlled governments since 1984. See the chart at the bottom here: https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2018/05/22/demographic-and-economic-trends-in-urban-suburban-and-rural-communities Put simply: the majority of city dwellers are sharing a similar kind of economic strain felt in rural areas (most US counties are rural).

I don't agree with them, but I do agree with the climate activists who smeared cake on the Mona Lisa. The Louvre and other museums will obviously cope. A bit of Windex and some towels will get that soup off of the glass. Cost = $100, max. Meanwhile, look at how much attention this brings to the problems of climate change. As for more welfare money to feed the poor, I don't know enough about that problem to comment on it. It's likely a very worthy cause.

I suppose it helps kids to have depressing songs they can relate to, but the lyrics in this song encourage depression, rather than help with it. Kids learn to get over this phase in their lives. This and songs like it reinforce their self pity, rather than offer help or hope. Updoot for visibility, but 🤮 .

Yep - I wish he hadn't taken it, especially after several significant failures to support precautions at US airports, quaranteen, social distancing, masks, the vaccine itself (instead promoting bleach, ivermectin, covfeef &) and for his reference to it as a hoax, and the 'fake news' that reported on it. I hope voters will be reminded of this. He actively helped spread COVID in the first month or two, though everyone on the Hill had the best intelligence on this over the span of two or three months before it was officially reported. This made the .01 % so much richer and the 99% suffered the consequences. So one wonders if Trump merely did as he was told by Miller, Kushner, &c when COVID was first announced.

FALSE

We are NOT discussing total migration numbers, nor are we using fasist disinformation propaganda websites paid for by far right assholes. None of that data is reliable. ALL of their sources (check the footnotes) are to themselves or to similar disinformation propaganda.

We ARE discussing DEPORTATIONS, which were lowest under Trump than among all other presidents in the past few decades.

I'm certainly not a 'fan' post-2007 WSJ, when Rupert Murdoch's News Corp has controlled it. Everything before that was impressive, and for what they focus on most - markets - they have to be somewhat reasonable in that category (numbers don't lie), as does Bloomberg News

Edit: you might be refering to Washington Post, which is very good. "Democracy Dies in Darkness" is their slogan. Meh - trying to sell newspapers - and they're not wrong. Democracy is obviously under attack by the GOP.

Moreover - it's surprising that there is still anti-vax disinformation like this at humanevents.com and many other relatively new misinformation websites.

It's scary there are groups like anti-vaxxers who are emboldened by others who are so incredibly stupid as to lack the 5-year-old logic to understand what's wrong with the anti-vax disinformation and who is paying for it. It's as if the internet has formed black holes of self-reinforcing and self-actualizing stupidity on a massive scale. Previously these people were only visible at dog fights, or monster truck shows, or at their sisters' strip clubs.

Edit: no offense, OP. My beef is with the propagandists, not necessarily all of the readers, some of whom who may merely be curious about this.

But you first tell me that you don't understand the 'point' and now you tell me that he didn't make a 'point', and yet your post says he's not right about the 'point'. Dude, you're either not trying to understand the post or you don't want to, and in either case, you can't make an argument about it and back up that argument. He makes an excellent point about the hypocrisy of the right wing assholes who've helped cause school shootings that are almost unique to the US - all because of brainwashing voters to think they need immediate access to assault weapons for absolutely everyone - and yet they cry like babies about drag queens who are offering readings, as if that's destroying society. Meanwhile, numerous children have lifetime PTSD because of the NRA and right wing, not to mention the many innocents who've died. Dems also take NRA money, and AIPAC money, but the topic is - wtf should anyone care about any drag queens? That's totally right wing propaganda. Parents can determine what to do with their kids. End of story.

I've seen that ISPs in some countries, like the US, Norway, &c do not block some of the P2P websites and trackers, whereas VPN is necessary for P2P in many other countries. Some VPN users also fail to appropriately set up VPN, so that their own IPs can be seen behind the VPN IP. Perhaps the majority use VPN properly, and some use seed boxes, but who knows.

Thanks for the analysis.

A) Argeed. Personally, I wouldn't take my kid to a reading with drag queens, but I'm not bothered if other parents do it. Up to them. It's a parent issue, not a legislative one (you can't legislate morality).

B) Agreed

C) Agreed

Perhaps you're arguing that Jon Stewart made a false comparison. I think the longer video provides more information on the discussion about gun ownership, which he responds to in the shorter clip. Nonetheless, it seems his main point is that the person he's talking to, and the far right, have made so many complaints about the destruction of a part of society if drag queens read books to children, whereas those same complainers support the NRA's attempts to deregulate every aspect of all gun sales (one of the ways in which school shootings have happened in the US in such great numbers, but not in other countries). So Jon's point is that anyone supporting the NRA's deregulation of assault weapon ownership is definitly not interested in the safety of kids, not in the slightest. It's hypocrisy.
