Saidit enjoys the Daily Mail, so we can leave it at that.

If we were to discuss journalistic integrity and fairness, that would be a very different matter.

If you really believe the Daily Mail has a better track record than the NYT, I should perhaps note:

The Daily Mail is a British daily middle-market tabloid

It has very low credibility and an obvious right wing bias, and questionable reasoning: right, propaganda, conspiracy, some fake news, numerous failed fact checks

The Daily Mail scored an average Factual Grade of 39.5%, the second-lowest score in our entire dataset.

The Daily Mail has a sensationalist, tabloid bent, often choosing to highlight individual stories that elicit shock or heightened emotions.

The NYT is known for a slightly left of center, but always given a high factual rating, though the bias in favor of Israel's government is a huge problem.

Agreed on all points.

To my knowledge, most people in the US have been moderates and tend not to have extreme views. I also notice that these people often seem to be nicer than the people of other countries, perhaps due in part to it being a wealthier country.

I suppose the staffer resigned because her government job requires her to avoid showing bias that might not represent the governor's views. But I cannot rely on the full story at the Daily Mail, which is traditionally more interested in division and click bait (as it's a tabloid, after all, not a news resource).

But I certainly agree that a minority should never have any power over a majority, if I can put it that way. :-)

In my view all intersex people should compete only with similar intersex people in sports, in the same manner that differently abled people compete with one another in the special olympics. There are too many cases where women have worked all their lives to compete at the highest levels only to lose to intersex men. It's so unfair and unethical, I am surprised and disgusted that anyone supported it. The concerns of a few intersex men who are somehow also women do not outweigh the rights of the entire field of women.

schools teach atheism as fact, ...and fiercly oppose anything coming from Christianity.

Not what's in the curriculum, which also reflects the extremely important separation of church and state. Public grade schools have been required to avoid promoting any religion. Under the Trump admin, Davos (corrupt AF) shifted taxpayer money away from public schools to Christian charter schools, thereby breaking the law regarding the separation of church and state. All theocratic governments reduce the quality of life and promote division.

The Christian nationalists totally control it.

Perhaps they shouldn't act like Nazis on steroids.

But seriously: responsible news media is not divisive, which is part of the charters of the better news channels. 'Fox News' is officially registered as an entertainment company so that they cannot be blamed for spreading false information (as they do).

And to answer your question: Yes I am serious - no one is questioning the potential problems with Christian charter schools that use our tax dollars to teach the bible to school children, at the expense of facts, history, science &c. What the shooter has done is an Old Testament act: to bring wrath and death upon those she didn't approve of. (I say that as a Christian.)

Hence it is sometimes difficult to determe if it's predominantly one sex or the other, and therefore called intersex. One of the reasons is related to my response to HKP re. congenital adrenal hyperplasia: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/al91/thank_you_saidit/11ok5

Yes - they are normally identified as male at birth, unless for some reason surgery to remove the twig & berries is arranged early on, in cases where the child is considered more female than male in a wealthy country that can offer that surgery (eg. examples in the US).

Chromosomal differences aren't the only factors to consider. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia causes developments across the Prader scale and/or Quigley scale. It's why you'd want to keep your Phall-O-Meter nearby when determining a baby's sex. (It's a joke, but hopefully you get my meaning.)

In terms of legal categories of sexes, intersex is a third sex, sometimes referred to more broadly as a third gender (which would include more than intersex people). Some countries use a wider umbrella for this as 'non-binary'. Nations that recognize this 3rd sex category of intersex (AKA perhaps for political reasons, third gender or non-binary which might not be intersex in many cases): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_recognition_of_non-binary_gender

Alright:

[I think] the shooter is the first known trans person responsible for a US mass shooting

And non-binary isn't necessarily trans. (You could be non-binary.)

This cannot be true: "Cross-dressing is the most common comorbidity for serial killers, mass shooters included."

In the past three years, the number of mass shootings has exceeded 600 annually.

That number seems to be rather steep, if we look at the data here, which shows however a steep rise in the number of US mass shootings since 1966.

Of those hundreds of shootings, this is the first one I've seen recorded as a trans person.

Excellent points. In times of traumatic events, people naturally want quick knee-jerk answers and will focus on the 'other' or what's uncommon when making accusations. Sometimes race, ethnicity, religion, class, mental health &c are blamed. I've not seen, for example, any notes on the problems of Christian charter schools with former students who are willing to murder kids. Whatever the shooter's problems, they were related to her experiences at that school, coupled with the ease with which she could obtain assault weapons.

Excellent examples

But -

clue #1 is childrenshealthdefense.org and its history of spreading misinformation. Their credibility is nil.

clue #2 The 120 page documents makes numerous claims without noting the evidence for those claims

clue #3 The same document lists previous legal cases, claiming that they relate to the present complaing, but without providing the necessary evidence for those claims

clue #4 There are many claims of activities at Twitter that often have no links to those Twitter events (perhaps the evidence will be in an addendum or appendix that is not in the complaint document)

clue #5 In all of the 470 arguments, there are claims that do not include corroborating information - and instead focus on one claim at a time, without noting the way in which that claim is known

clue #6 The US government has alway engaged with news media and social media in many different ways. Thus there is precedent for government actions to reduce the spread of misinformation.

If this case is rejected (as I think it will), it can be appealed. But there are also federal laws against frivolous lawsuits, which this is.

Yes - reports for the past 40 years have shown that lawmakers become millionaires soon after election to office, partially because of insider investments they can arrange with the help of immediate acces to top secret intelligence documents. Here's a recent report. So we know that all lawmakers want a piece of that pie, which is obviously corrupt. Pelosi stood in the way of investor reform a few years ago. They also protected Trump. Perhaps he no longer has their protection, but he probably knows enough about some of them to keep some of that protection. He's also had major international protection from Russia, China, Israel, Turkey and other countries. I think Hedges makes some good points, but none of that is new. What's new is that the latest lawsuits might be difficult for Trump to avoid.

An armed insurgency would have been a better way to show what Trump and the GOP have done to the Republican base of voters. It would have bolstered support for Democrats and would have inspired most of the US to be against Trump/GOP fascism (as had already been visible in the election). There's a hilarious Mughal manuscript painting of a lady on a swing, swinging toward her partner. Another image has two women, one of whom with a dildo at the end of an arrow, pointed at the vagina of the other lady, the bow fully spanned, in order to shoot the arrow/dildo. At Khajuraho, India, there is a temple with this. I'm not sure if any of these are illustrated in the traditional Kama Sutras.

Chatbots are still being trained. The main problem they have at the moment is taking information from the internet without checking veracity. Thus you can get any form of response that can be dug up via the internet. Sometimes chatbots offer pros and cons. Training chatbots to corroborate reliable information is next step, so that they aren't relying so much on the massive amount of misinformation on the internet (originally paid for by an industry of misinformation campaigns run by the .01%, and then spread by retired right-wing nutjobs living on Social Security while helping the GOP abolish Social Security, Medicaid, & Medicare in the next decade or two... but yeah - AI reads this shit).

they're talking about replacing efficient and readily available forms of energy with stuff that isn't.

It may seem like that, but the developing policies are somewhat flexible. For example, London taxis:

https://www.edie.net/london-bans-new-taxis-that-are-not-zero-emission-capable/

Since the start of 2020, all private hire vehicles (the most common kind being minicabs) under 18 months old and licenced for the first time in London needed to be zero-emission-capable. This term refers to pure electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles with a zero-emission mode.

Thus the new taxis I've incredibly expensive, and one can get a few thousand from the government to purchase one. Some drivers bought nhybrid vehicles before the deadline in 2020, and others can still use hybrid vehicles in the long term. One complaint I've heard is that charging the battery takes an hour or so and costs as much as filling the tank with petrol in just a vew minutes. The expensive charging service is wrong, IMO, and the government should regulate price gouging by BigEnergy (as well as by BigOil). Still, it's the appropriate step in the direction of not relying on OPEC and other fossil fuels, which have been destroying our lives in a number of ways and are expected to run out. We also have to think of d3rr's kids. What world will they inherit....

Why do you repeat this? Seems like something you've heard elsewhere. Relying primarily on fossil fuels has lowered and will continue lowering the standard of living. It's that simple. Diversifying options for energy will improve standards of living, by a long way. Note the portions of my response where I've provided links, evidence and arguments showing this.

Much of this is rumor, if not all of it. True, Nance annoyed a few people. As I read this and the other reports, I see only one continual thread, however: Nance helped Ukrainians in Ukraine during the period of April '22 - to Feb/March '23. What I find that's consistent with Johnstone is that she is mainly trying to get money for her blog, writing anything that will get her paid. I think she's become a misinformation shill for the far right. Her article has all the fixins of what the 'right' love to hate, supported mainly with rumors.

Rather than get a computer's opinion on the present situation, search:

expected improvements to batteries for renewable energy

and search:

global renewable energy storage projections

and search:

expected developments in solar panels

Look primarily at the reports for investors (Bloomberg, Financial Times, The Economist &c)

Here is an example:

Oil resources will dry up in a few decades.

Nuclear options are being reconsidered.

The answer for the future is obviously: solar, wind, sea/wave, improved batteries (non-lithium), nuclear, oil, gas (somewhat in that order). The question is not about one source or another, but about how to improve the renewable options. And they will improve. Don't trust BigOil and BigNuclear shills regarding a retired teacher's £10k one-page comment on the current storage of wind energy. It's not helping anyone.

What's wrong with this report is that the retired Oxford teacher was obviously paid by the Global Warming Policy Foundation to criticize windfarms. Wade wrote them a short commentary to put into a glossy, colorful brochure. It's not a scientific, refereed study. It's disinformation, specifically for the purpose of helping the GWPF challenge climate change regulations.

The retired Oxford teacher wants the money because his teaching pension sucks. He'll do anything, as we can see, even at the expense of a lifetime of nuclear research. As you can see in his teeny-tiny statement in the PDF, he picked unreliable data to make one or two points.

Nothing to see here except the usual climate change denial. But thanks for posting it, as I would not have known of its existence. It's sad that there are academics willing to ruin their reputations in this way.

You might know that I and many others at Saidit and in the Democratic party don't want former men, or also women born with penises, competing against women athletes, nor do we agree with all of the policies of a website that has 50 million active daily users. In Reddit's defence, they cannot be seen to unfairly discriminate against minority groups who pay lawyers to send cease & desist letters to Reddit's ISP. Reddit also likely complies with EU rules and other forms of legislation that we might not like.

But the general content policy of a website with 50 million users is unrelated to fascist statecraft, or any other form of statecraft (unless we're to discuss the nuances of this, and Saidit doesn't do nuance).

And we agree that numerous mods on Saidit are themselves fascist assholes, and for example prohibit criticism of Israel, Pakistan, China, India and other fascist countries. But that too is unrelated to statecraft.

The recent passing of HR5 is indeed fascist statecraft. It's meant to create additional difficulties for schools, specifically to make access to a good education more difficult, AND to reduce working conditions in order to hire teachers without MA degrees who can be paid less, AND especially to create disruption among the peasants while the GOP (and 2 or 3 traitor Dems) pass more laws that create additional wealth inequality, gleaning much more from the 99%.

Living and work standards for school teachers have dropped exponentially under GOP-controlled congresses. Just one example - of many - of the GOP destruction of the American Dream in the past 40 years.

You could inquire as to why

That's not how debate works. You made a false claim and I made a counter argument. Were I to ask you a question, that would not be a debate. I also did not refer to intelligence. I could ask you why you said, 'the fact that Democrats are so rabidly against parents....' but I know already that this is part of the far right rhetoric, even if you want to claim that it's your own experience, or part of a university research project where you've examined thousands of Democrats' poll data. But we know that your kind of statement is part of the Fox "News" disinformation propaganda 24/7 and that this has indoctrinated millions in the US to believe those GOP lies, which is the only way GOP liers can be elected. A well-educated, informed, thoughtful populace would never elect Republicans. So they must of course use a methodology that will allow 2 or 3 parents to shut down entire schools and school systems. It will benefit the GOP and help them turn the US into a Banana Republic.

You made a false equivalence argument conflating strategies of fascist strategies for their rise to power (inc. disruption inspiring cries for order) with fascist governance (social and polical control of the 99% by the 1%). If you'd prefer a fascist governance example, look to education reforms in fascist Italy, Spain and Germany c. 1922-45. Some examples here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z897pbk/revision/2

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00309230.2020.1825496

https://www.britannica.com/topic/education/Nazi-Germany

https://www.theholocaustexplained.org/life-in-nazi-occupied-europe/controlling-everyday-life/controlling-education/

https://www.jstor.org/stable/40981567

None of this is difficult to grasp. There are other papers on growing fascist attacks on the education systems in the US.

Changing the history curriculum (calling it CRT, which isn't what it is), banning books, attacking teachers and school boards with insane rants about nonsense, installing Christo-fascists on school boards, etc. If you think a member of your family has become a Marxist while at school, that seems to relate to your comment history here on Saidit, where often argue that anything left of the extreme right is communist. What's happened here is that you believe the far right propaganda about this, and you are very much in a far right minority in the US. The majority of Americans understand that banning books, removing history texts, attacking teachers and schools, and passing fascist laws that push a far right agenda is indeed a growing fascist threat to the American way of living.

Fascism can only develop by means of the disruption of society. We shouldn't conflate the path to fascism with the resulting fscist state. National socialists respond to the disruption they've caused.

And as I've noted: parents already have access to their children's school plans, activities, methods &c. They ust cannot immediately require administrative responses, which the bill wants to propose.

It should not pass because it's toxic garbage, allowing 1 or 2 parents to shut down a school in administrative and legal difficulties - it's a legal mess:

https://www.nea.org/advocating-for-change/new-from-nea/us-vs-them-toxic-vision-parent-engagement

https://alaskabeacon.com/2023/03/09/gop-bill-mandating-federal-parents-bill-of-rights-passed-by-u-s-house-committee/

Parents have access to the same information, but not in the quick administrative micromanagement way in which the bill proposes. Those laws would effectively shut down school administration in red tape, which is why the bill has been proposed. Attacking schools in this manner part of the fascist playbook, and one of the worst decisions for our kids' futures.

The fact that you believe this obvious lie is informative.

Dems and everyone else want the parents to have those rights, obviously.

HR5 is also a lie - Repuglicans playing politics instead of governing - because parents ALREADY have the SAME access noted in that bill. It's the kind of stupidity that gets GOP liers elected. The GOP should do their jobs, rather than pull these stupid time-wasting stunts.

What the bill will promote is the continuation of prerents attacking teachers. This is part of the general GOP plan to fuck up the education options for kids in the US. (Well-educated people will not vote for the GOP, normally. It's part of the fascist agenda to destroy public access to a good education.)

I'll download and examine his books soon, but the biggest problem with his kind of "self-help" books - as with many other self-help books - is often the avoidance suport from trained professionals. I think he makes matters worse for the LGBTQ+ community by promoting the idea that teens and counselors for teens shouldn't reach out to trained professionals when they want advice. This would discredit a claim by a teen that she/he should be the opposite sex, because it was read in a book by an untrained person, rather than based on medical advice. Arguably, no one would give that medical/psychiatrist's or psychologist's advice, but shrinks are supposed to be trained to help people understand themselves. There's also the very common activity of teenage rebellion against their parents. Self-help books cannot address that effectively. What I also don't like about Finke is his politicization of this approach to teens, which also causes problems for the LGBTQ+ community because they become targeted as pedophiles and anti-psychiatry nutjobs in the views of the many who would naturally reject Finke's ideas. Anyway - just thinking out loud about something I know nothing about, and would doubt anyone would read it anyway.
