Drag Queen Story Hour: One of the worst public relations fails I've ever seen by JulienMayfair in LGBDropTheT

If they're doing it to try to normalize gay people with kids then why the fuck would they choose Drag Queens to represent us all? Drag Queens aren't even representative of your average gay man. It's almost like they're trying to make us look bad on purpose.

Exactly!!!!! If the point is to normalize gay people, they’re doing it wrong. If the point is for entertainment, then they’re entertaining the wrong audience.

What is the point and how do we let the world know that most LGB people don’t support drag queen events for children???

Eh. Our city’s pride parade is nice and tons of fun.

I used to appreciate corporations putting more gay/lesbian couples in advertisements during pride month, I thought it created a lot of really positive exposure and showed that LGB people are actually just normal people. That’s completely changed now though with the emphasis on TQ+, drag queens, etc. The message has gotten away from ‘LGB people are normal and just want to live their lives’ to weird gender issues that 99% of people don’t relate, and lumping LGB people into the gender crowd. I guess more or less I hate it.

As a pro, there’s a chance that it might make it a little bit more acceptable for LGB people to be more openly gender critical. I think the potential benefits are limited though.

Otherwise, there’s massive risk involved. For example there’s the risk that we’d get an idiot on TV, or someone with more extreme views than most of us getting on TV, which could paint the movement in a negative light.

This needs to get reinforced to young people considering transition. If you transition, your dating pool is going to be close to zero. This is on top of having reduced or no sexual function, stunted physical development and stunted mental development. The lifelong negative impact of transitioning is very real and continuously glossed over by TRAs.

The high rates of trans exclusion from potential dating pools are undoubtedly due in part to cisnormativity, cissexism, and transphobia — all of which lead to lack of knowledge about transgender people and their bodies, discomfort with these unknowns, and fear of being discriminated against by proxy of one’s romantic partner. It is also possible that at least some of the trans exclusion is due to the fact that for some people, sexual orientation might be not (just) about a partner’s gender identity, but attraction to specific body types and/or judgment of reproductive capabilities.

The lack of a dating pool isn’t “transphobia”, a lack of education, or a fetish for a certain set of genitals, it’s normal ingrained human sexuality.

Since the TQ+ are chronically online, they’re just talking about “queer” discord servers and subreddits, right?

Not only that, calling it a “genital preference” is a backdoor way of saying “if someone gets bottom surgery, they’re no different from a biological male/female”.

“Genital preferences are valid” is homophobia and denies the immutable nature of sexual attraction.

so being trans just makes it a lot harder to find partners?

The fact this has to be asked lol. This was the entire point of the super straight / super gay / super bi movement, people want their men to be men and their women to be women. It’s human sexuality, not transphobia.

Too much hugboxing and uwu has created a whole generation who don’t understand basic human sexuality.

IMO when it comes to friends it’s easier to stick to less controversial topics:

-trans women don’t belong in womens sports

-queer is a slur for a lot of people and it’s offensive when it’s used as an umbrella term

-non-binary is more of a fashion statement than anything real

-transing children is based on sexist stereotypes and medicalizing trans children is causing irreparable harm to many children who would otherwise grow up LGB or GNC

^ I think all of the above can and should be argued without rocking the boat too much. No one will want to be your friend if you’re an extremist, keep it to the arguments that support your views but aren’t too extreme and you should be ok.

The last sentence gets me:

While children dealing with gender identity are at increased risk for depression and suicide, there is not an indication for a psychiatric evaluation at this point.

Really?? A child decides they are a different gender and the only response is to unconditionally support their decision and not to put any effort into uncovering the underlying reason for the change? No, don’t see a psychiatrist, just start the medicalization asap!

Love this comment. A woman starts telling her husband that now he’s gay and he refuses to play along:

I (masc NB) am in a marriage with a man who self identifies as heterosexual. When I came out he had a bit of a crisis because he doesn't feel like he can be in a gay relationship. I on my part felt a bit uneasy in him still considering our relationship straight. The way we resolved it (still working on it, but we are more settled) is realising that after all is said labels are just approximations. He can consider himself straight as a generalization and still enjoy our relationship that we custom built in years together. And I can still consider myself in a gay relationship and enjoy the unique queerness of it regardless of the way he identifies. Sure this is coming from 23 years of learning to give space to each other and finding each other midway. I hope you will be able to talk things through, it is a good test to know if the relationship is based on good premises. Good luck
