I disagree. The left (more far left who have the loudest whining) has been subsumed by identity politics. Everything is about race, sex/gender, orientation, and their enemy is everyone who is not in their prized demographics. Both Clintons btw, though HRC didn't make it. I don't like either of them, but they were the lesser of two evils. I can't stand HRC and I don't think she would have been any more effective than Biden, but at least she had government experience. I envisioned an HRC presidency as a diluted version of her husband's or Obama's. Still, and like Obama, it would have been a great signal of progress to have had a woman president, even if it had to be her. Romney is creepy, and by and large, I'm independent and left leaning (until the great purge of 2016), mostly because I do believe in Universal Healthcare (the only feather in Romney's cap I can think of), and if not free, super cheap education - both left of center ideals. No, I don't think Romney is significantly left of Trump because Trump isn't left or right, he's just a populist windbag.
I don't buy that any of these people are dyed in the wool Federalists. I think they're people with incredibly successful legal careers who are at the top of their fields. I may be too optimistic, but I believe these people prize the law/Constitution over all things, but of course, influenced by their own personal beliefs as well.
I don't know enough about Clarence Thomas to speak on that, but there's another example of identity politics before it was called that. They picked him because he's black. I'm sure there were better candidates, even black ones, but they went with him. Conservatives can eat that one, but it's seasoned with leftist identity bullshit. I agree that SCOTUS needs reform. I don't agree at all that judges are appointed. There has to be a better way and a better institution to pick judges or even a career path devoid of politics (as much as that thing can be done).

Just to put it out there, great conversation. And worth noting that not all spaces (e.g., reddit) would have allowed for it without some sort of brigading or banning. Maybe in earlier days, but my last few years I saw no good conversations. That is valuable to me.

Pretty much all outside a few platforms (Reddit for sure, again, that's why I'm here, Twitter (before X), Instagram, SnapChat, Tumbler). I only use this, YouTube, and occasionally Reddit (mostly for porn). Most of them that will ban you for even suggesting anything against "the narrative."

So not a "suspect" but a "perpetrator." We all know he did it and there's plenty of evidence. I get it, he has to have his day in court, but we don't have to pretend there's even the slightest doubt he's guilty.

This is an example of a case that should be fast-tracked to death row. There's video and eye-witness evidence so his trial is really a formality record all the evidence and determine a sentence. IMO, that sentence should be death in all cases like this, and that penalty should have a reasonable time frame for appeals based on the heinous nature. I don't care about his mental state or his upbringing. I don't care he doesn't like cops. This is a mad dog situation and we need to dispose of people like this, not coddle them for life sentences or drag out court cases for years.

And yes, after 2016, the divisiveness in this country amped up to 11. "RED or BLUE! You must choose." I was always left of center until then. Woke up one day and found myself at the very least right of center, which, according to most lefties (or at least the ones who hadn't been called out), was "right wing." I've rarely had a conversation since with any friends or family who drank the blue kool-aid, that didn't end with them basically calling me a Nazi. It's a stereotype for a reason. In contrast, I've yet to be called a libtard by a Trump supporter, even though I didn't vote for him and likely won't this election either.

From my perspective, it wasn't Conservatives who won RvW, it was Democrats who lost it. They are supposedly the party of women, yet they have failed to codify RvW for 30 years. Even when they had a supermajority and even with a black, woman VP who was a fucking lawyer herself. Nothing. They failed. I disagree with overturning of RvW (which is really about medical privacy and less about abortion), but I also disagree with women who think it should be on-demand or joke about it like it's nothing. It's a last resort and they could easily take it out of the hands of the state by using sensible birth control (or getting on the fast-track for a male, oral solution for birth control).

Nobody wants a dictatorship, but nobody wants this ride or die partisanship either. I'm sick of the two-party system period, and I can't tell who fights that more, red or blue, but we need a third option.

I absolutely appreciated it, and Villeneuve is phenomenal at bring scale into the film. I do still enjoy the 1984 version for its style choices and I love me some Lynch body horror, but the Weirding Module stuff was kinda silly. The TV Dune was great because it really aligned with the book, but the production values were so corny. I'm interested to see how Villeneuve handles Messiah. That is a tougher sell and I hope they don't just keep Chani alive so we see more Zendaya over telling that story.

And in the example I gave, the child wasn't in on the decision, the parent's just made it (based on their doctor's opinion, and I think with all the love and care for their child they had, just not all the information that was available). TL/DR - it states there no evidence either way that puberty blockers accomplish this. I still lean toward letting nature take its course. If my child still felt the same way after their body fully developed, I'd 100% support them (love isn't even in question here; don't care what gender they are). It does make a valid argument not to interfere.

Another pov: I saw this documentary from years ago about parents who had an intersex child (not hermaphrodite, but truly intersex). They raised "her" as a girl from birth. Before puberty (realize this is in the 60s or 70s), doctors advised them to basically flip a coin - boy or girl, and they opted for girl because she had been living that way up until this point in time. Later, after she'd become an adult, physically, she never felt right as a woman. She transitioned to he, and resented their parents for making that call. I didn't care for that part, as a parent, I feel for them especially given the time period where trans wasn't talked about and people just went with doctor's advice with little to no question. He ultimately reconciled with them.

Now in that scenario, the parents interfered with this person's development and it was detrimental. Is that any different than parents entertaining puberty blockers, hormones, or (heaven forbid) surgery for a child who feels they're trans? I don't see a difference and I would opt for waiting until they had naturally developed before I was onboard with anything more drastic than socially transitioning (obviously they'd do what the want when they were 18).

Kids questioning everything is universal. Kids wanting agency over their lives while they're figuring out who they are? Also universal. We don't let them drive before at least 16, drink til 21, vote til 18, or do any number of lessor things adults take for granted either. Why would we just throw that out the window when they can socially transition until they're done developing naturally.

If it stops them having kids for welfare, great, but we all know that's not going to happen. And wtf is $850 going to do? They're all likely on some form of assistance anyway, what will this accomplish but give them disposable income to buy crap they don't need anyway. I'm not against an economic safety net if applied appropriately (just pay their rent for x months or give them food, shelter, clothing not money and put limits on that), but this won't accomplish a thing.

Marvel/DC superhero movies in general, all suck now. That trend is dying and something new is around the corner (I'd like to think the age of the low-budget, indie flicks that actually tell good stories will replace that trend, but LMAO). I can't recall a Marvel show I actually enjoyed or finished and this one will suffer the same fate. Having said all that, if this show has Julia Garner flying around nude but for a layer of silver paint? Count me in.

Only 3% of the population of Indonesia are members of the LBGT community and I'll wager the T's are the smallest group. If you believe climate change is the big boogeyman, why would you only call out a tiny fraction of the country with regard to impacts. True, but as you said, "adolescence is confusing." What makes it even more confusing is activists, politicians, corporations and media telling you you need to make that life-altering choice IMMEDIATELY! Letting biology run its course and allowing children the space to figure out who they are without rushing is the key. Sure, there will still be trans people, they've been around for thousands of years, but people can wait until the dust of childhood/adolescence settles to resort to drastic measures.

I love that a dumb bitch who accepted millions in campaign donations from Trump flaunts erroneous felony indictments (a clear sign of election interference imo) to sway voters who are just sick and tired of A or B. Nearly half the country is registered as Independent. Does she think that's normal? Her party not only tries to interfere with elections far more than the RNC ever has, they rig it within themselves. Look what she did to Bernie. They literally withheld DNC money that was rightly his just because some people felt she was owed the presidency because of her ragged old vagina. There's got to be one, charismatic leader who can run on a third-party ticket and break this hold.

I agree to an extent. I think we should only provide foreign aid to countries that want trade partnerships with us and aren't rabidly anti-west or religious fundamentalists. That would eliminate a lot of these African and Middle-Eastern countries which, frankly, we don't want relationships with anyway. Globalism is dying and we need to cut bait and run.

Meh. I loved him on TDS years ago, but he's weak sauce now. That Apple show sucked and was super boring, not too mention a little too left for my taste, which was surprising as I always saw Stewart as more of a common sense guy. He certainly doesn't have the cache he once had. Anyone who's rabidly anti-Trump is suspect to me. How reasonable can you be if you just think he's a Nazi? Even Maher pointed out that if you think Trump is just an evil nazi, you're basically saying half the country is evil nazis. I wouldn't vote for the guy, but I get his appeal and think everyone should get the choice. All these trials, to me, are the worst kind of election interference. Compare them to Russia-gate, which was pretty weak. This is way worse.
