Bullets piss off bears too. And you can run out of bullets, just like bear spray. A bear is a moving target…plus the target area is smaller as the bear coming at you. Similar to a bear spray, a pistol is close range item too.

With both weapons, it is technique/delivery/skill. You have to keep your composure and concentrate.

With bear spray, you first gauge the wind. (It was a slight breeze coming from my left.)

When the bear is about 100 feet away and charging towards you, you release a one second stream to form a cloud. The cloud will be about 30 feet from you. If the bear continues charging through the cloud, it is now in range. You unload the rest of the spray in the bears face. 5 seconds worth.

The Wüsthof does have a lifetime warranty but it's not a no questions asked kinda thing and fighting with them to replace a knife probably is never going to make it worth the extra cost.

That Renaissance is my goto knife, use it for pretty much everything in the kitchen. It replaced my Paula Deen knife from Walmart which was okay except for the bolster.

I use a Mercer Renaissance, it's a knock off of the Wüsthof IKON classic at a fraction of the price. Same steel, same basic blade geometry although the Mercer is slightly better for rocking chops.

Japanese steel tends to be harder, sharper, and more brittle than western steel knives. They make great knives but they're not as general purpose.

The elite (whoever those are, because our political leaders are certainly not elite anymore) don't need to use artificial scarcity, because there is still actual scarcity (for example Au is not exactly abundant). Some types of cheese are branded and sometimes even the biology is "protected" and that's a type of intellectual property that shouldn't exist for basically forever. Even for such a simple thing as ammo there is an actual shortage and that's because for anything with non-trivial demand it's difficult to match supply and demand.
