How often do you experience lesbophobia? by QueenOfTheNorth in Lesbians

[–]Starburns 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm in the US and I get sexually harassed at work frequently for being gender non-conforming. Usually it's just being propositioned for threesomes by women with husbands but I've also experienced targeted sexual harassment by a superior that significantly negatively impacted my career and limited my future options because I reported it. I was also physically assaulted as a child for holding my girlfriend's hand at recess which contributed to me repressing my sexuality for years. So I think there's still a long way to go for true acceptance.

[Spoilers] Jennifer's Body (2019) — Film of the Week by piylot in Lesbians

[–]Starburns 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This was on my halloween watchlist for this year as well!

I enjoyed it and thought it was funny but I think if I had seen it when it came out I would have been obsessed with it/identified with it more. The music really took me back and "I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you" was my anthem in high school.

I especially enjoyed Adam Brody as evil Brandon Flowers and a lot of the one liners like "I guess she has sex through her blowhole or something" and "My tit..." I also loved the ending with Needy breaking out of prison and getting revenge as it highlighted how important her relationship with Jennifer was and places the blame of the events of the movie on the band instead of Jennifer.

I also have soft spots for Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried and thought they were both great in this even though their personal lives are a mess haha.

SPOILERS

I agree the ending was garbage. I think the creators just decided to have a sad ending because people complained the first season's ending was too happy. I can accept a sad ending but it wasn't narratively satisfying to have it end tragically since the show already focused on the toxic couple ending tragically as well as Owen and Hannah and everyone just forgets about Dani...

I loved Jamie with her curly hair and overalls! So cute. I also felt the actress was great at creating chemistry and I thought she was originally romantically involved with Hannah because of this haha. Overall I did feel the show was too slow paced and the creator really need to cut down on the ~deep~ monologues but I enjoyed it anyway.

What is everyone doing for Halloween? by WildwoodFlower in Lesbians

[–]Starburns 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Halloween is a big holiday to me and I celebrate all of October haha. I decorated my apartment to look like a spooky mansion, have a list of horror movies I am working my way through and am planning to go to a drive through haunted house. Definitely sad I won't be handing out candy on the actual day because of Covid but will probably have a few friends over for drinks.

Absolutely the same! I spent most of my time growing up not understanding why I felt different from my friends and like I had to put on a performance to constantly guard a secret but I was not sure what the secret was... hahaha. Once I realized I was able to relax so much with myself and be authentic around others ie go back to wearing oversized men's clothes and not censoring my reactions to meg thee stallion's music videos

XPost from LGBdroptheT: Cosmo: Are queer women being failed by our healthcare system? I thought it interesting that queer women means lesbian bi and trans women. I am also interested on peoples thought on the rest of article. by southpaw in Lesbians

[–]Starburns 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I am a doctor and even I am avoiding getting another Pap smear because my previous experience at the OB/gyn office was traumatic. I was on birth control for hormonal acne and they assumed birth control meant I was getting penetrated on the regular. They used a very large speculum and ignored my pain. I am the only lesbian in my department and whenever I try to bring the very few articles about lesbians experience in healthcare up I am spoken over by the heterosexual ~nonbinary~ person in my department about trans issues. Lesbian and bisexual women are extremely under researched so I find this very frustrating.

Finding men’s shirts when you’re a DD by [deleted] in Lesbians

[–]Starburns 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I’m an F Cup and I love the men’s slim fit button ups at target! They come in short and long sleeves and fit very close to the body compared to standard fit men’s clothing And other brands I’ve tried. I also don’t wear underwire bras which reduces the gaping that can happen in the boob area with any button up shirt. I do have to leave the last button undone to have them fit over my hips but I wear them tucked into pants so it doesn’t matter. Get a size smaller than your size in women’s.

Does anyone else here can't relate to men? by oofreesouloo in Lesbians

[–]Starburns 21 insightful - 3 fun21 insightful - 2 fun22 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I personally find majority of straight men to be very dull as they don’t really listen to me when I’m speaking and expect me to be quiet and just laugh at what they say. Majority of my interactions are just chit chat at work or with my friends husbands. I have traditionally male hobbies too but I have found straight men frequently hostile or sexually inappropriate if I try to be part of a group with them. I have a lot of gay male friends however, I feel they see me as a person vs straight men lol. I don’t have advice as I don’t really feel the need to be friends w men haha I only try if they’re dating my friends
