Yeah the mom sounds….extremely conservative, and not in a good way. I was big into anime at this girl’s age and the worst we did was be really dorky. I’ve been involved in initiatory Wicca for a few years (so, not women only) but trans politics have poisoned the well so badly. It’s now transphobic to say that fertility only occurs between men and women because it’s not ~inclusive~ anymore. But the people who screech the loudest about being ~inclusive~ are the biggest bullies. That and some other issues have made me so sick of 99% of the community and IMO the “general” Pagan community is worse and will jump down your throat if you dare have the most minor disagreements on practice or personal politics.

I don’t think I even want to start a coven at this point because I’d have to pretend that “non-binary” isn’t a bunch of sexist bullshit and get cut off from the community for not being able to take it anymore.

I assume you’re talking about Other M, which was really awful. In the original Metroid, they don’t even specify her sex until the very end of the game when she takes her helmet off and reveals she’s a woman. I’m a huge fan of the Prime games, myself.

Yup many RPGs definitely let you be what you want. I feel a lot of lacking representation in early gaming was largely due to tech limitations. You couldn’t really have plots more complex than “save the girl” or “kill the bad guys.” Of course it’s very different now and characters and stories have gotten more complex, and I feel really cringey stuff is in the minority now.

I think Sarkeesian and her ilk are largely addicted to outrage in general. I think it’s a core component of the libfem mindset.

Other than the misuse of money that was intended to be used for more videos, I always had issues with her criticisms. The most offensive to me was saying characters like Samus are just “men with tits.” Nothing will ever please these types.

I don’t think video games, like any other media, are above critique but so much of the “feminist” critique has been hot garbage. And I actually have been gaming since I could hold a controller.

And yeah, zero surprise from me that she’s all aboard the trans train.

Police won’t step in because they’ll have their lives ruined if they try to stop them, even if they’re totally in the right. There’s a lot of apathy in American police departments and I can’t say I blame them, there’s no amount of money you could pay me to be a cop right now. I’m not some thin blue line idiot (I’m disgusted by videos of cops arresting people playing with their kids in the park in the name of “COVID safety”) but something has to give.

I’m thankful I chose to move to a state where I can conceal carry. It leads to these types behaving a lot better.

I’m not surprised to see that it seems these people are in over their heads. I haven’t seen much on their animal care experience. I’ll say that while I don’t know much about alpacas, I’ve worked around horses for many years so I’m evaluating based on that.

The one person quoted in claims of bad behavior towards workers frankly sounds like they had no idea that farm work can be physically demanding and pulled a “muh disability” when they couldn’t handle it. Referring to my property as “white colonizer shit” would also sour me on you. The handwringing over the alpacas in the snow is also ridiculous. Cattle are regularly out in the snow with no blankets, some horse breeds do fine without, and it seems they aren’t necessary for alpacas unless they’re old or skinny. I don’t like the exposed insulation in the shelter though and it seems they need to build more before bringing in more animals. Like I said, while I think some of the criticisms are overblown I don’t disagree that they’re out of their league and ought to start smaller before worrying about total self sufficiency.

I’ll also state my bias here and say that I unconditionally support the right for all law-abiding adults to bear arms, regardless if I think your personal politics are stupid or not. Shitty people who like to hurt others sadly exist and police are at best 45 minutes to over an hour away in much of rural America. I immediately rolled my eyes at the panty-wetting in the NPR article over them owning eeebil “assault weapons.” What I DON’T support is masturbatory fantasies over taking out hordes of bigots coming to kill you, aiming a gun at a person simply passing by your property in a car, and basically admitting to assaulting someone at a protest. This is my problem with a lot of the far-left gun advocacy groups, they hate on right wing groups for fantasizing about killing people but then they constantly plot out how they’ll take on “nazis” and such. I need to see police reports of claims that militia groups were on the property because I frankly trust neither the “tranchers” or that right wing paper being quoted.

Either way it’s best to see more facts about this whole operation and not blindly support something because the people running it are trans or whatever.

I can’t speak to Ireland but here in the US there’s a growing number of traditionalist/Latin rite churches that are rejecting a lot of the woke politics that have been coming out of the Vatican. And it’s overwhelmingly younger families attending. If you told teenage Catholic me that there was gonna be a resurgence in young women veiling in church I would’ve laughed at you.

In the US, it’s only Republicans who are pushing back, though I’m seeing more and more liberals saying things are getting too ridiculous. I can tell you that if I expressed in my religious community that trans women are biological men no matter what, a large number would ostracize me and brand me a TERF. I’ve seen it happen to a man I know. Thankfully more are beginning to push back and I hope it results in more sanity in politics here and elsewhere.

On the outside looking in, it seems fewer in the UK and such are tolerating this. It seems to me gender critical feminists are much more vocal over there.

I used to be involved on tumblr with a fandom for a popular video game series. The series had...a lot of homoerotic subtext, so I couldn’t fault people for reading into it. I mostly liked a particular character who the creator of the series outright said had a “pure love” for a main character, so again, no issues with shipping them. I followed an artist who was one of the few who did a lot of art of that character (not many people are into 60 year old men lol).

So the artist comes out as trans. Whatever, just continue drawing art and writing fics of hot old men, I don’t care what you are. Then the artist began exclusively drawing the character as obviously trans. Huge mastectomy scars and a vulva. It just seemed like a weird cope for their transition. I’ll also be selfish and say I’m attracted to bio men with dicks, so it got frustrating seeing a new pic and realizing he was drawn as trans again.

They ran off to Furaffinity after Tumblr got nuked and draw almost exclusively furry art now anyway.
