Hey look! A backbone!

Fundamentally this is an issue of informed consent. There's no way this is possible with people so young; the ramifications are serious and often irreversible.

Yes! This is the heart of the matter, and this is the approach other liberals need to use when confronting the topic of medically transing children. How the issue is framed is important, and if we have other Dems talk about how young children can’t possibly consent to such extreme medical intervention, I think most reasonable people would be agree and see through false cries of “transphobia”!

One of the comments:

Puberty is irreversible. Do you understand that? Puberty happens before 18. Do you understand that? A transgender child going through their "biological" puberty will be watching their body change in ways they hate, permanently, while you make it illegal to help.

According to this logic children with gender dysphoria need puberty blockers and surgeries instead of psychotherapy and self-acceptance :/

And those trans-bolsheviks have no problem with irreversible surgeries.

EDIT:

Now I understand why TRAs hate puberty so much:

Childhood-onset gender dysphoria has been shown to have a high rate of natural resolution, with 61-98% of children reidentifying with their biological sex during puberty

Yep, if they let the kids grow up then they lose all that money they could be milking out of them for a lifetime of medical costs.

Scheduling a surgery to get a 16 year old boy some new tiddies is a much more rational step than getting him some therapy and self-acceptance.

Honestly nice to see a Democrat pushing for this.

He's getting serious hate from the blue-haired minivan moms and the usual suspects.

This is a state not federal bill, but it's good news anyway, because finally a Democrat has grown a spine.

This is a state not federal bill

You know what I'm going to ask, don't you 😂

[–]BEB[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

No matter what you ask, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to answer it ;-) Each state has its own laws, and so I would not know anything about what happens in this politician's state.

Haha, I really need to buy myself a book on US politics...

I don't know if one exists that could answer all your questions: there are 50 states, as you no doubt know. I think the extreme differences between areas, and between groups in each area, is one of the things non-Americans often don't realize about the US.

Especially people from geographically small and ethnically homogenized countries, who have a hard time grasping the complexity. People just dismiss "Americans" as if we are all one group, when we are almost infinitely varied.

You know how there's, in U.S. national capitol, a Congress with 2 houses: House of Representatives and Senate?

There's actually one of those in every single state. :) So we call this guy a "state senator" to distinguish the fact that he's a senator in his state (one of the 50 states) and not a senator in the Senate (capital S-- the national one).

I think there might be one or two states that do something slightly different because they're weird, but that's how it goes for almost every state.

edit: Also I agree with BEB about the diversity among states. In my limited experience, for that reason most people I've met are quite loyal to their state or local region (e.g. Midwest, West Coast, East Coast) but not necessarily to the US as a whole. It's interesting.

In the story it mentioned how black Democrats tend to be on the more conservative side, than their white liberal counterparts. Gave a fine, sound, reasonable, logical explanation as to why children shouldn't be able to consent to these life altering surgeries & that it's not about hate. Hopefully people all over see this, & come together regardless of political affiliations & do what's best for these young children, who are being used to propagate agendas, that have severe life lasting irreversible damaging effects on their bodies.

In case you are curious, the person who wrote this article is one of the few sane LGB people who are keeping track of the transgender trend. JD Ghassan Robertson, she's on Twitter and has her own website where she writes more about this.

edit: typo

But I thought it was only white people who invented and recognize the distinctions of male and female?

This is amazing!!!

Great news. :) Nice to see JD Ghassan Robertson writing about this topic. I saw this guy getting harassed for this on twitter, was not surprised... Hope he sticks to his guns.

Nice to see a politician with a spine. And he’s a Democrat, by the way. He can teach other Democrats a thing or two.

Holy shit, a sane Democrat. Shame I can’t toss him a vote from my state.

Cue the infinitely condescending smug white college kids from LA telling him he's a poor victimized black man that's been brainwashed by whiteness, because his obviously appalling upbringing renders him powerless to form his own opinions in this evil yt world.
