I'd also say this - making moral judgements about humor content, and then attempting to suppress it for violations of your code is exactly what Reddit does. See the migration of s/TumblrInAction. Frankly this seems awfully hypocritical of a judgement for someone who claims to support free speech and internet. Have you ever seen South Park or Dave Chappelle, the best comedy always offends someone

[–][deleted] 15 insightful - 3 fun15 insightful - 2 fun16 insightful - 3 fun -  (28 children)

There’s so many people begging to censor said it.

It’s so hard to believe this is a refuge from Reddit.

There’s a block button. Instead of been by a whiny bitch, they can just use the block button.

[–]LordoftheFlies 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (26 children)

Yeah, but a block is a quiet thing. A big-ass protest post gets attention, and that's the goal.

[–]Questionable 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (16 children)

We can't down vote it off the front page.

If we block him, he will continue to destroy the front page whether we can see it or not. Degrading the site as a whole.

Is it censorship to insist someone posts adult content to appropriate subs?

u/HongKongPhooey simply has no self control, and sees no reason to use any judgment or discretion what so ever.

[–]hfxB0oyA 5 insightful - 5 fun5 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 5 fun -  (8 children)

Is it censorship to insist someone posts adult content to appropriate subs?

Yes it is.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

And is it bad?

[–]hfxB0oyA 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (6 children)

In my opinion, yes. If people want to filter content to "appropriate" subs, there's Reddit. The price of our chaotic freedom is eternal vigilance from becoming a buttoned-down site like Reddit, ever tightening the definition of what's appropriate until all expression is strangled.

[–]Alphix 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Any place with unrestricted free speech is a place that is quickly being subverted by enemy agents. UNLESS the participants are extremely educated on the ills of subversion.

[–]hfxB0oyA 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Well then, I guess the onus is upon each of us to educate ourselves.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, but how thoroughly can you count on >95% of the userbase of any site to fully educate themselves on this topic?

[–]Musky 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Well said.

[–]hfxB0oyA 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

TY

[–]LordoftheFlies 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Okay, but unless there's some secret "Content that I don't want to see" sub that he should be using to avoid offending your (in the general sense, not you specifically) sensibilities, then as far as I can tell, he is posting his stuff to the appropriate subs. And unless he further has a serious level of behind-the-curtain site access, his stuff showing up on the front page is no doing of his.

[–]Questionable 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

He doesn't need to post shit here at all. Does he NEED up votes for some reason? You want to read the dailymail? It's a major site. Just bookmark it, go there and rub the feces in your eye sockets.

[–]hfxB0oyA 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

The block button exists, dude.

[–]Questionable 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yes, it exists. And so does 4chan. I go there for shitty content, and not here. And I don't want this site to become 4chan. So if I use the block button, he will continue to bring down the quality of this site. Only it will be happening out of site, and out of mind.

You are literally exalting the virtues of ignorance, dud.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

The guy posts some worthwhile thigns, though.

[–]hfxB0oyA 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

True enough. As the saying goes, you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince. ;)

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (7 children)

Right. Their jealous of HongKongs popularity. Like sorry Larry you can’t think of a cool name. And you don’t post cool stuff.

[–]monkeymagic 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

that’s a bit of a stretch. i fully support dude’s right to shitpost, but his content is trash and sane people find him annoying AF

[–]Alienhunter 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Cool then ignore it like a sane person does when they see clickbait.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly.

[–]LordoftheFlies 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Like sorry Larry you can’t think of a cool name.

I'm low-key proud of my name.

When I'm feeling all high-brow and whatnot, I can claim it's a subtle comment on the uncivilized nature of the people featured in the stuff I most frequently comment on, that they're exactly like children gone feral in the absence of a society capable of keeping them in check.

When I'm being honest about it though, it's just referencing my love of shitposting :D.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I thought your name was cool too.

[–]Bonn1770 1 insightful - 4 fun1 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

THEIR jealous? What about MY jealous?

[–]iamonlyoneman 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

When a big ass-protest gets started by someone retarded, be sure to mock them and call them ugly names so they will feel bad

[–]Alphix 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

SOME of his posts are actually insightful.

[–]Drewski 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

He's not calling for censorship, just saying that your spam posts are getting old. People have mentioned the block button but I think the difference is you actually post good stuff, instead of the trolls who it's easy to block without missing out on anything.

[–][deleted] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

He's not calling for censorship, just saying that your spam posts are getting old.

I don't like a bunch of shit people post, usually stuff about Jews, "niggers" or some other kind of identity-based hate manifesto, which I think is far more distasteful than anything I post. Yet I'm not starting Reddit style brigades about it like u/LarrySwinger2 , calling people out by name and trying to start a lynch mob because I think it's trashy and stupid, even though I'd have to block most of the site to avoid seeing it.

Some people clearly are enjoying having me post news that is just meant to laugh at rather than being serious, and I don't see anyone else being asked to self-censor to avoid offending people on this site, so I'm not quite sure why it is I should consider censoring myself when a few people don't appreciate some of my posts. I don't think the rest of Saidit would do the same for me.

I honestly like both you and Larry, and don't feel good about it bothering you guys this much, but I also feel like its pretty unfair and unreasonable of you guys are to ask me to self-censor and meet some standard other users are not being held to. Especially on a free-speech oriented site brimming with hate speech when I am just posting (admittedly low-brow) humor from newszines

[–]Zapped 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Because people want you to be above what they feel some of your posts amount to. You don't hear many complaints about the hate speech because they don't think those users are capable of better. There is a lot of paranoia about regular users here because of the shills and forum sliding attempts. I admit that I try to connect the dots, too.

[–][deleted] 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (21 children)

I just posted two links about police misconduct and a woman that was denied an organ transplant for being unvaccinated, but Saidit won't vote those to the top like my semen post, its literally the #1 post right now, so I'm not sure Saidit agrees

[–]JasonCarswell 5 insightful - 4 fun5 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

Others have rigged the votes.
Others have voted for stupider shit.
Hard to say what's what.

The real issue is that your lame shitposts are too prolific.

[–]dicknipples 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (8 children)

That seamen post is of course important news to Saidit (though the research is 20 years old), so we are much obliged. But it doesn't mention semen in gay men. I mean: perhaps that's the origin of the use of the name, gay? Just thinking out loud....

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

(though the research is 20 years old), so we are much obliged. But it doesn't mention semen in gay men.

I think you have already provided the answer right there and perhaps didn't realize it during your out loud thinking. The article predates the woke drive towards inclusive language, it is implicitly assumed that heterosexuality is necessarily the biological norm, and that males retaining the semen of others in not worth studying without a plausible evolutionary reason for why nature would select for this in males

[–]dicknipples 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Indeed - though arguably the 2SLGBTQIA+ folks are happily removing themselves from the breeder gene pool, so technically Idiocracy will have a paucity of 2SLGBTQIA+ genes (if we are to believe the 2SLGBTQIA+ community that their conditions are innate). (Edit: as it may not seem to be obvious, now as I read responses to this and my previous comment, I should note - I was obviously joking with HKP.)

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Just my personal opinion, but I think we may be looking at a couple of different phenomenon.

The 'L' and 'G' may have some biological basis, we see it in animals at similar rates to what we see in humans. Lesbians seem to have really masculine physical traits at much higher rates than one would expect given zero correlation between biology and sexuality.

The gender ideology stuff is clearly psycho-social in origin and not biological (gender is determined by the presence or lack of the male Y chromosome in mammals), although perhaps some inherent level of higher suggestibility is required to be susceptible to this stuff, because not everyone is

[–]Ehhhhhh 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I've wondered if some gays claim trans because it gets more attn than gay/lesbian or if it's some mental exercise.

Example: This girl that I knew was super cute. She had a slightly deeper voice but still feminine. She loved her husband and was sort of naive about the world in general and was in a region that was more religious than others.

She went trans. Like, total wtf. How did sweet little naive girl end up on hrt, change her name and move to a super liberal, degenerate city? Was she secretly into chicks and just trans was more supported? Was being gay more of a sin to her than just "being born in the wrong body"?

Still bugs me on how that could've happened and doesn't make a lot of sense.

[–]hfxB0oyA 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

2SLGB...

I'm suspecting you're Canadian?

[–]Questionable 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (9 children)

Are up votes that important to you? How would it look if we could down vote content?

Here is a sample of what you deem appropriate content for saidit:

'My sugar daddy paid me to feed him my used toilet paper — you'd do it too'

You are actively creating this environment. You can not claim innocence in this.

[–]RottenCorpse 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

I support Phooey's innocence. People enjoy comedy and variety, else it becomes an echochamber of political gesturing. These posts wouldn't be popular unless they were appreciated.

What is appropriate for a platform that proclaims freedom of speech and expression, is anything within the confines on the rules. Linking to publications from mainstream media articles of that nature demonstrates that those types of posts are appropriate content for newspapers, how so then is it inappropriate here? Are we a holier than thou, modest sainthood of patrons? No, we are internet dweebs who enjoy the company of others internet bullshit and banter for shits n giggles.

[–]Alphix 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Wait, the dailymail.co.uk site is another babylonbee? I thought it was serious (and seriously fucked up and disgusting and gross) "news."

Given this, I found his appetite for sharing the shit-slinging level stories he posts to be very much like an attempt at degrading our site.

More babylonbee, less dailymail?

[–]dicknipples 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

seriously fucked up and disgusting and gross

yup

less of both the Bee and Mail, but I support those who want to contribute a variety of submissions, which HKP does.

[–]Questionable 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Of course you want less bee. Comedy derails propaganda and detracts from degeneracy.

[–]Questionable 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

The innocent of his active actions of which are facts?

A defense of simply claiming comedy?

An appreciation for incest and beastiality stories?

A claim of popularity, where one can not down vote?

A defense of popularity equating to rightness?

A self proclamation of having no morals to stand on?

Well, I'll give you this much. It all read very well!

Too bad none of it makes for a very convincing argument.

[–]RottenCorpse 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Well I guess everyone can ask you for your opinion before posting anything in case it doesn't meet your approval?

[–]Questionable 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

I don't spam the front page with low brow smut. Nor do I walk into a walmart and start reading porn out loud. It's a public forum, not a public toilet. And no, it's not appropriate behavior for a public bathroom either, but there is no such thing as an all ages whore house, so I can't compare it to such. All ages drag shows? That's a thing that exists. I can compare it to that.

[–]RottenCorpse 2 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

How dare you speak of smut in that way, low brow smut is what I live for! Have you no shame? If one wishes to compare ones penis to a vegetable or watch midget wrestling then so be it man! Leave the smut readers alone for we have needs too! Not all visitors to this public forum seek to reside in a censorious realm of monotonous dribble spouted by those without humour, irony or jest, who's sole contributions tend towards nursery rhymes and conflict instigation. You sir are the toilet seat, I sit on you!

[–]Questionable 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

That was actually your most conniving argument. And you implemented a comedic tone. kudos to you.

[–]SMCAB 11 insightful - 4 fun11 insightful - 3 fun12 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

Sorry dude. The internet wasn't made for your sensibilities, or anyone else's. Just gotta scroll past it if you don't like it.

[–]LordoftheFlies 10 insightful - 4 fun10 insightful - 3 fun11 insightful - 4 fun -  (4 children)

Pretty sure this has been mentioned before, but it's a pleasant change of pace from the wall of unfettered autism that otherwise makes up the front page. Seeing the same people just incessantly retreading their personal manifestos about Jews being the problem, niggers being the problem, America being the problem, Republicans being the problem, or even leftoids being the problem gets tiresome.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather this stuff was out there to be seen, even (no, especially) the stuff I disagree with. But having some dumbass clickbait stuff is a much-needed palate cleanser from all of the negativity.

[–][deleted] 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Somebody finally posted the real motivation for why I shitpost like I do. Because when I post about nuanced and complex issues, I get a wall of autist zealot speak. So I go with amusing myself instead, because thats actually on the menu, real dialog is not

[–]dicknipples 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

The Mail is perhaps the most click-baity 'news'/hot garbage site online - entirely devoted only to clickbait - and totally untrustworthy. I hate it. But I like HKP's dedication to Saidit submissions that can develop discussions.

I appreciate his posts, and this is YOUR OPINION.

This web site has a block feature.

I look forward to his posts. Don’t shit on honk kong. He adds alot to the website.

No, I could see some science happening here. Like how much can you fap before your balls look like a pair of raisins and nothing but an "I.O.U." comes out? Can you even reach that point before your meat looks like it's been skinned and cooked by the repeated friction.

It's good for Saidit, which needs posts that differ from the usual schizo dumbass fuckery.

Also - when was the last time you submitted anything? 10 days ago? 13 days ago? 16 days? A month ago? HKP has obviously raised the bar. Join him up there.

I answered a new Saiditor's question recently about what Saidit needs: it just needs nicer people who want Saidit to develop.

And where's the nudity? Asking for being-poisoned.

u/HongKongPhooey posts some stupid shit to be sure but also some interesting links. A site like saidit takes a lot of users posting good content for it to be good. Hmm here let's see if we can find an example of a saidit user who isn't doing enough of that.

"Too much" is subjective. "Trashy" is subjective. 45 comments under this post (as of this comment) shows that HKP is bringing engagement to this website. Isn't the purpose of Saidit to allow people to exchange ideas and information? Don't like it? Block to avoid seeing it. Want others to have other viewing options? Post more content you think Saidit needs to fit the culture you think it should have.

Two different things. Bringing engagement from the users already here is not the same as bringing in new people. If engagement stops, the site dies. I admit that I try harder to find stuff to post when things get slow or monotonous here.

I've been complaining about it for months.

    I could not agree more.

If you don't like his stuff, just block him. Easy peasy.

    [–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

I abhor about half his stuff. Also, if I were an agent bent on demoralization and the destruction of a site, I would post a good deal of stuff that would get widespread approval, and then also a bunch of shit that makes you want to spend an hour on eye bleach, in order to demoralize and worsen the users' moods and minds. That is how I would do it.

I just don't read or comment on most of what he posts. But if we care more about the free speechy-ness of this site, we have to allow for everything we dislike. I'm very opposed to the idea of blaming the jews / blacks / whomever for society's ills, but I'll still defend the right of people to post idiotic material about it. If I didn't, how defensible would my position be when the powers that be came to shut me down?

    [–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

So we have to allow the subversion that is going to turn this site into another reddit or get it shut down? That's interesting, please go on...

    [–]hfxB0oyA 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Saidit doesn't allow porn or calls for violence, which are intended to keep it from getting shut down. Everything else is up to us. If we want better content, we should post it.

    [–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

You're missing the point: if users leave, the site will likely shut down.

I just wish for a simpler way to mute posts from certain users.

    Mm

    [–]iamonlyoneman 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

there is literally a clickable link under every comment and post (?)

    [–]Rah 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Dont think it works for posts, only comments

    [–]iamonlyoneman 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

    you should try it

when my suspicions of my spouse became high, i had to contact a techie to help me hack into my spouse's phone just to get me off my suspicions of her cheating, to cut long story short, the techie successfully hacked into my spouse's phone and the information i got gave me peace of mind. Feel free to text the techie if you're found in the same situation
