I'm so grateful that I was able to find my way off of this terrible path before something similar happened to me. I feel so sad for this man. He is a brave soul for continuing on in spite of what sounds like a living hell.

Gods above....reading through that thread, and subsequent thread shared by other detransitioners...the horror, anguish, and frustration actually brought me to tears. ALL of them ask the same question, too: WHY was I allowed to do this? The sheer evil and nonchalance most of these doctors and therapists have to have to continually ignore the statistics...I know this board isn't a fan of 'violence', but this is the kind of action that should result in public executions after a quick trial. I mean some of the shit they knowingly give children regardless of the side effects is right up there with Hitler's worst nightmare agents. Straight-up Nuremberg material.

This is sick and wrong. Our world is just so fucked.

This account is about what I expected. It's like the people with Body integrity identity disorder (BIID) who amputate limbs. The brain has developed their entire lives with space allotted to the feeling/control of it; So, to the brain- the phantom limb is still there. So it operates as if it was.

Anyway, I'm at the point where I don't think even Adults should be greenlit to get these surgeries.

I think they're insane, but I wouldn't want to live in a place where I couldn't do whatever I wanted with my body. As long as they aren't harming anyone else in the process, I believe people should be allowed to do what they want, even if I disagree. You can't really force someone to stop being crazy.

But we can punish doctors who sell patients this lie. Informed consent should require patient's understanding that this is a cosmetic surgery, what the complications are and that it will NOT change their sex or gender in any way. If they still choose to get it, then that's on the patient. But I think surgeons who perform these surgeries should lose their licenses, especially with how uninformed their patients are of the predictably terrifying complications.

Absolutely.

The medical professionals involved need to be held accountable.

Transitioning is body modification, not medicine. How many doctors are willing to castrate a healthy man just because the patient prefers the look? Not many, because that would be irresponsible at best. But if the patient claims to be a woman, suddenly it's not irresponsible anymore? Suddenly it's not a ridiculous request?

They can do it on their own dime then. Unfortunately, in some places, others have to fund their completely anti-health procedures and the handling of all the negative consequences thereof.

Agreed, it's elective and should be treated as such. Most insurance policies don't cover plastic surgery because feeling insecure or ugly is a personal problem, not a medical one.

Imagine if taxpayer money was funding 'otherkin-affirming care' for people who believe their animals or whatever. It's absurd.

Informed consent is fundamental to medical ethics. You can't consent to a lie, and any doctor who says transitioning is safe is lying. Any doctor who downplays the dangers of transitioning is lying by omission. Any doctor who says children have the capacity to consent to irreversible and unnecessary procedures is lying. These quacks should lose their licenses for malpractice.

Unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen. Because it's nothing new. Unscrupulous doctors have been choosing profits over ethics for as long as anyone can remember. See: Routine Infant Circumcision.

Well said. It is absolutely disgusting what has become of western medicine. Unfortunately, doctors nowadays have become nothing more than glorified salesmen for drug companies. They don't care about ethics.

Yep, I know that from experience. I have a few chronic health problems and the only advice I've ever gotten from doctors is; "Here, take these pills!"

It's their go-to response for almost everything. And they rarely talk about the side effects. I've had so many bad reactions to prescribed meds that I now have more problems than before.

First they mutilated my penis for no good reason, then they poisoned me with drugs, and now they're telling me that sterilizing children is harmless.

Why would I ever trust a doctor?

Honestly the worst description I've heard was a TIM whose parts were rotting and falling off. He had an entire webpage complete with pictures that someone posted on r/NeovaginaDisasters or whatever it was called on Reddit before it was banned.
