(insert any location other than gender studies class or Twitter) - why do all these people recognize me as a woman?

Out of curiosity, why would anyone want to go into prostitution in Detroit? It sounds like a great way to get murdered and your body be left in an abandoned building for god knows how long.

(Her university on her sweatshirt is in Detroit for non-American users.)

I’m 99% sure she means only fans when she says sex work.

Sshhh, we don't talk about the realities of being prostituted.

For the past few years, sex work has seriously been pushed as a positive and empowering experience. Especially for women. Anyone that speaks out about the harsh and dehumanizing realities of prostitution is now labeled a SWERF (sex work exclusionary radical feminist). I wish I was making that up.

These girls are privileged and view it as a toe-dip into a seedy and edgy adventure. It is nothing like the desperate situations most prostitutes are actually in.

I never used to think this, but I guess this is what happens when a generation is raised with no real problems and told they are all incredibly special with a great destiny the world owes to them.

I mean, sucking dirty crackhead dick so you can feed yourself and your children is fucking horrifying. The people advocating this are so far removed from reality and suffering that I don’t think it occurs to them what the actuality of a situation is.

I don't know that that's fair to say. Maybe it's a bit of speculation here, but I'm honestly inclined to guess that many of the people who are so positive about prostitution/sex work on social media probably come from financially secure backgrounds (which many of us in the younger generations have not..). They haven't realized that so many people who engage in prostitution worldwide do it only because they are incredibly desperate for money, food, shelter, etc. because they haven't before dealt with the threat of losing access to their basic necessities.

Possibly she lives in one of the painfully-woke nearby areas and commutes? (Yes, Michigan has those, unfortunately-- see Ann Arbor, i.e., Woke Central. And now many towns/cities surrounding it function like suburbs thereof, so they're infected with wokeism, too.)

I mean, I feel like there are enough obnoxious white hipsters around the Eastern Market and DIA now that she actually could be living there. But, yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me if she was some rich idiot from Royal Oak or Ann Arbor either.

Sounds like you know the Greater Detroit area too, Jules! Yeah, this is perhaps the downside of Detroit trying to revive itself by attracting affluent young people in search of the "big city experience"-- you get flyover-country hipsters playing Let's Pretend We're in Brooklyn. And thereby managing to somehow be even more insufferable than the genuine article! (Quite an accomplishment.)

Ha, yeah I used to live in the area. Hello, fellow Midwesterner though!

You hit the nail on the head summing up Detroit hipsters. The last time I was in town I saw a barefoot woman carrying a banjo down Woodward Avenue. That’s some bullshit I haven’t seen even in Burlington or Portland.

The hipsters seem to be fighting to win the idiot title from the suburban couples who buy abandoned ornate mansions for $500 to renovate and then are shocked when it’s full of crackheads.

The f-word makes my skin crawl and I have the mouth of a sailor! I don't get how they can be so comfortable throwing that slur around and not realize how straight and ignorant they sound.

Because it was never used against them in the dehumanizing way it was used against actual gay men. They're just tourists with no skin in the game.

Oh honey, just go down to the local truck stop, and offer blow jobs.

Tell them you're a man, and they won't care.

Just be careful, b/c that's a good hunting ground for serial killers too.

"Fag". These people are homophobic, and hateful.

Another suburban kid who has absolutely zero idea of what "sex work" is really like. If she does do it and isn't just talking out her ass, she's in for a rude awakening.

I've seen "lot lizards" truck stop sex "workers" driving across country, and it is such a ugly, ugly reality for many women.

Add to the fact that if you want to kill women, truck driving is the perfect job.

So much so, FBI recognizes this as a pattern.

NOT saying truck drivers are killers, but killers recognize how easy the "hunting" is.

Trans are really shooting for the stars here.
