A lot of shounen anime tends to idealise, objectify and stereotype women. A lot of obsessive anime watchers have low self-esteem and have body image issues. A lot of them also use anime as an escape from reality, and thus resent reality when compared to their fantasy. Most of these communities are already "queer"-heavy themselves. A fair amount of fixation and fetishisation also goes on in these communities.

It is the perfect breeding ground for a "transbian".

Yeah, probably because of a lack of any TQ+ presence in Japan. No-one to suggest the idea of being trans to the depressed person in question. The trans thing definitely spreads to some degree, I have seen it happen in a niche community of my own.

And if that isn't why... then I don't know. I was just going off of my own experiences with these communities and these types of people, which is obviously going to be primarily western-centric.

Amateur artist here, and I've thought for some time that a BIG part of anime's trans-appeal is how much alike the sexes look-- specifically, both are depicted in the same hyper-stylized, over-the-top-"girly" (cloyingly-cute/pretty) way. So the male characters can easily "pass" as female... and often do. Which is of course not only the "transwoman" dream, but how they think things actually ARE. Dude just puts on a skirt, makeup, and wig = INSTANT PRETTY-GIRL-NESS ACHIEVED. Except this only works in anime. Which, therefore, they try to live in, and paper over the real, uncooperative world with: anime-rules... anime-reality.

I suspect that there's something similar going on with their mania for "transing" children, particularly very young ones. Cuz when a guy starts insisting he's a girl once male puberty, and the dramatic effects of high testosterone levels, have had their way with him... you can SEE how absurd it is. But a three-year-old boy presented as a girl? Before secondary-sex characteristics have emerged, there's not much obvious difference. So that's one reason they want to make it about naturally-androgynous little kids rather than hulking, hairy, linebacker-looking "transwomen": the visuals. Forgetting that, even if secondary-sex characteristics haven't developed yet... the PRIMARY ones are already there, and remain no matter what you look like.

You're probably right. A lot of these men transition b/c they think women have an easier or softer life than men (look at r/transmaxxing for direct examples). They freely admit to wanting a softer life, softer expectations, being able to show emotions more freely (LOL as if), want to be treated soft for "looking pretty", etc. All of that amounts to infantilizing women.

Then the pedophilia. That anime porn bullshit gives me the fucking creeps! Those cartoon women have little girl or baby faces, and show emotions in child like ways, childish expressions etc, but with ultra-sexualized, adult women bodies. I hate it.

I always found this interesting. While anime isn’t western, I only ever see white transbians. All the cross dressers and transwomen in Japan seem to be gay men, and they don’t try to change definitions or speak over women (at least not that I’m aware of). I’m guessing the vast majority of transbians are weebs who always fetishized asian women, but now they want to BE them. It’s gross.

Oh Jesus Christ. This guy looks like my brother-in-law in a bad wig. For reference, my brother-in-law is a serious weightlifter who climbs mountains, has a sizable gun collection, loves hunting, and would die before he voted Democrat.

For as much as he talks about hating men, the dude in the video isn’t trying at all to not look or act like one. He's my husband's cross dressing brother.

I mentioned years later it after he moved away.. refrained from telling my OH until then because he can't stand him to begin with. There would have been an arse kicking.

They never pass. Even if they manage to look like a real woman in a picture or via various filters/ lighting/ makeup/ surgeries, they give it away as soon as they start speaking and moving. It’s always a caricature of what they think femininity is and it’s always very uncanny valley.
