Complete lack of ethics and total pursuit of profit. People who transition will be perpetual patients for the medical and/or psychological industry, as long as they can afford it... And even if she desists and detransitions in the next 10 to 20 years, she'll have to deal with the consequences on her body and mind.

These people are so self-absorbed, they'll never realize they are the source of their troubles and a vortex of drama that most people will not touch.

...But nah, it's just because they're "non-binary" or "trans" or whatever.....

Ellen Page's transition seems like a new spin of the way singers and actresses in their late 30s/early 40s have public breakdowns or go haywire from industry pressure, paparazzi stalkers, etc. With the gender zeitgeist, her breakdown is being lauded as "brave, stunning", etc.

...So Russia is just more transparent in its aims, rather than the situation we have i the US where the hatred is being disguised under paternalistic, falsely "benign" support from government and private institutions. (And where we have a coalition of private interests and corporate media, instead of "just" an arm of the state.)

In fact, the US government is funding nations like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan with billions of dollars in "foreign aid". Those two nations have criminal penalties towards individuals in openly same-sex relationships. They're also horrid human rights abusers across the board, Saudi Arabia being the worst of the two:

Saudi Arabia stated that under the interpretation of Sharia in the country, consensual same-sex sexual conduct is punishable by death or flogging, depending on the perceived seriousness of the offence, and the law makes it illegal for men "to behave like women" or wear women's clothes, and vice versa.

Pakistan, while not going as far as executing people, does not support anti-discrimination legislation for LGB.

If the US truly does care about LGB rights, then why is this not reflected in our foreign policy and distribution of aid? Why even fund a barbaric nation like Saudi Arabia? Wouldn't this show that the federal government is just virtue signaling and doesn't truly care?

How is this much different from US corporate media? Corporate media is fed propaganda from the intelligence/military agencies and "reports" it uncritically. At least state media agencies are transparent in its intentions of manipulating public and/or global opinion.

Reddit allegedly drops Challenor after a bunch of big subs go on strike - cites lack of adequate background vetting. by deliciousdogfood in LGBDropTheT

On March 9th, we added extra protections for this employee, including actioning content that mentioned the employee’s name or shared personal information on third-party sites, which we reserve for serious cases of harassment and doxxing.

Hm... They knew. They anticipated the negative reaction, but thought they could ban enough users and/or nuke subs to keep it under wraps. (As they usually do.) What they didn't anticipate was the level of furor... They were so heavy-handed, it backfired. This isn't going away now.

1: I hate this clownworld timeline where people bend over backwards to use this dude's "preferred pronouns", because they'll fear being banned or to be "polite". This dude is not a woman and his behavior screams "man with a fetish". This is a deluded, predatory man. And this insistence of politeness, constant tiptoeing is why these TW keep getting shielded and coddled for their behavior.

2: I hope I'm wrong, but if Reddit does acknowledge the controversy and releases a public statement they will feign total ignorance to protect the clique in their org. There's no way that a person with this type of history could be hired in total ignorance, and it strains credulity that NO ONE did any background checks at any step of the hiring process. Even a laywoman like me, with no access to databases, in another country, can do a Google search and find out this dude's history. Even those Google results could not be scrubbed because it was such a scandal, major news organizations were publishing articles about it. This dude was so radioactive that multiple political parties dropped him and disavowed his involvement. There's no way they didn't know. If Reddit do drop him (and I'm cynical that they will because they're bending over backwards to scrub even mentions of his name), then it'll only be to protect the rest of their clique. The rot must be deep at Reddit.

This is why I roll my eyes at anyone that excuses TRAs' behavior by saying this is something that only happens online or that they're just keyboard warriors. Years and years of documented threats, harassment, and outright assaults by TRAs, especially against women. They make their hatred against anyone that dissents very clear.

[–]Alma_Esmeraude 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That depends on whether or not the GOP chooses to filibuster. If the Republicans don't choose to filibuster, then yes there'd only be a simple majority to pass. (Harris would inevitably vote yes to break the tie.) However, there's a couple of conservative democrats in conservative-heavy districts that might not want to risk voting yes for it and would break ranks from the party. Wokes definitely have the majority in the House, not so sure about the Senate.

People in goth and emo (and punk) subcultures understood they were participating in a subculture. I'm not sure the teens, young adults, and actual adults labeling themselves "queer" understand this, because the term is so much conflated with sexuality and sociopolitical status.

It's really backwards rhetoric and I despise it. It's very dehumanizing and objectifying to refer to a living human being as a "body", rather than a synonym for a "person". It's one step above referring to a person as a corpse IMO.

[–]Alma_Esmeraude 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No. We've had gender-nonconforming people prominently in the public eye since the 70s. (Glam rockers come to mind, lol). They didn't claim that they were somehow not a woman or not a man because of how they dressed. It's why I'm massively confused by this subset of people thinking that makeup, hair, clothing makes their "gender" (sex) nonexistent.

Really, it just seems like non-binary is GNC with a massive chip on their shoulders. They want attention and special accolades for adopting "subversive" styles of dress that subcultures have been doing for like...decades.

The authoritarian left is already making life difficult for dissenting leftists and moderates. But left-right politics is cyclical and swings like a pendulum. Eventually the censorship and de-platforming tactics they've perfected will be adopted by the far-right in response to their overreach. This is not healthy for democracy, inquiry, or discourse.
