Stuff like this is why I only lurked at the old sub and never joined. That, and the gaslighting women by telling them that their male partners only cared about them as property, and then making snide, condescending "Nigel" remarks when they disagreed.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Some people were just annoying about it, or they'd constantly chime in with "NAMALT!"

[–]emissch 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

agreed, I'm out of the loop though. what does the Nigel remark reference?

[–]NDG 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

“Not my Nigel” was this phrase criticizing women on the sub who didn’t think their male partners were misogynists - “men are misogynists, but not my Nigel.” Posters would mention clearly pro-woman things their partners did and then people would be like, “Oh, look, ‘not my Nigel.’”

not sure how I feel about that phrase but it sounds pretty dismissive/demeaning to women

what others said. maybe short for "NIcest Guy that Ever Lived"

Call me a PIV apologist.

"Sexual activity helps maintain a healthy vaginal epithelium (the cells lining the vaginal walls), increases vaginal elasticity, and improves lubrication in response to sexual arousal. It also helps keep the vagina more acidic, providing some protection against infection. These benefits have nothing to do with estrogen levels; they result from increased blood flow to the vagina and possibly higher levels of androgens and other hormones. Women who are sexually active with a partner or through masturbation report fewer symptoms of atrophic vaginitis and have less evidence of tissue atrophy, compared with women who aren't sexually active. In one study, postmenopausal women who had sexual intercourse more than three times a week had less vaginal atrophy than those who had intercourse less than 10 times per year."

or through masturbation report fewer symptoms of atrophic vaginitis and have less evidence of tissue atrophy

So simple masturbation does the exact same thing PIV does, I'm sure penis doesn't do any magic in the vagina so pushing any other object like a dildo in the vagina has the same effect as the penis. Masturbation and pushing a dildo up the vagina also helps maintain a healthy vaginal epithelium (the cells lining the vaginal walls), increases vaginal elasticity, improves lubrication in response to sexual arousal and helps keep the vagina more acidic, providing some protection against infection by having increased blood flow to the vagina when a dildo is inside it.

The "benefits" come even without the penis, and also simple masturbation and playing with dildos bring one more benefit; less chance of getting the diseases one would get if penis was in the vagina ... so, PIV doesn't really do anything after all

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

No one is saying that you yourself need to utilize a penis, but penis-like things provide benefits. I'm not the voice of all heteronormative women, so I can only speak for myself when I say that I would rather have the full hetero PIV experience than fool around with getting out and cleaning up all that other bullshit most of the time. I'm married, and I like him enough to play the people puzzle game with him.

You or anyone else are more than welcome to not want or enjoy it. My post is not/was not meant to erase lesbianism, but it WAS more to say "if you don't use it, you lose it" in more words. Use it how you want, plastic or paper, etc and so on.

[–]AllInOne 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Hmm, all I'm saying is pushing anything like a toy in the vagina has the same benefits. You will have to clean all the bullshit out when he cums in you too, one of the other benefits of only pushing a dildo up the vagina is you don't have to clean anything afterwards except for the dildo that was used. Yes it may be a use it or lose it situation, but that means one should first care about losing that vagina to even care about the "benefits" that come with pushing something in it. Surely celibate nuns don't care about the "benefits" so they are more than willing to lose the vagina and do other things instead.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Having a pee and wiping after is pretty much it. There's not much to it. I'll put up with it, personally.

Do celibate nuns really care about the state of their vaginal health?

[–]AllInOne 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Nope, the celibate nuns don't care about their vaginal health I guess. I don't really care about the state of my vaginal health either which is why I don't care if it's health deteriorates. etc. It's health is going to deteriorate as years pass by no matter what I do anyway until I end up having my funeral which then means either worms are going to feed on my vagina or I'm going to be turned into ashes so it doesn't matter if the vagina is lost, or its health deteriorates because it's going to happen anyway. But even if a woman cares, she can just take a dildo and push it in her vagina, it will have the same effects as a penis has and there's even one more benefit which is; less chance of getting diseases. This is why masturbation only was always encouraged when pandemics started, because there's less chance of getting diseases when a woman uses a toy in the vagina instead of a penis

Errm. No. I happen to like intercourse with men, particularly PIV intercourse. I also like intercourse with women. I'm bi. Not going to stop liking either. Both feel equally nice to me. Liking PIV is not anti-feminist.

[–]emissch 18 insightful - 1 fun18 insightful - 0 fun19 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

I read the links, watched the video. Regarding the top two articles-- sure intercourse, reproduction and the human body are weird and funky but you can blame nature for that, not humans. and yes, PIV carries more risk to women than to men. Blame nature for that one as well. I'm just happy that nobody has to get pierced in the abdomen to reproduce or get their heads ripped off. When you look at the reproductive strategies of other animals, insects, etc, our system is the best of the worst. Also, regarding the other blog posts on "all piv is rape" -- that actually does a disservice to real rape victims in my opinion. If everything is rape, nothing is, so it's important to not muddy the waters and change definitions there. the reality is, some women are oriented to like male bodies, PIV sex, and that's their sexual orientation. Inequalities should be addressed of course, but placing a blanket "PIV=BAD" statement on what millions of women are oriented toward just seems way off base and lacks nuance.

Was my first thought when I looked at that link.

I lost my virginity through a violent rape. As an adult, many many many years and partners, and difficult personal issues later, I love penetrative sex with my partner. He makes me orgasm all the time, and I can't get off without penetration. Dunno what to say but I'm sure a lot of women are like this

Well there's some perspective for today! I guess it really could be way worse.

I think we should lay eggs, though. Small ones that we can leave under a heat lamp.

[–]PostmodernJukebox 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

if we laid eggs they would probably have to be the size of a newborn or be able to grow as the fetus develops. it would be much more convenient though, i have definitely thought about that before lol

[–]Spikygrasspod 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

They should be born tiny and helpless with conveniently small skulls, and grow strong as we feed them a mixture of unicorn blood and snake venom for another few months.

I was engaging in silliness, that's all. You said nothing wrong.

That "PIV is always rape, ok?" article is, quite honestly, garbage.

"Sex for men is the unilateral penetration of their penis into a woman (or anything else replacing and symbolising the female orifice)..." um... gay men would disagree. I would disagree. I will peg a man, an experience that I find truly empowering, and that, to both of us, is sex.

"PIV is a man mounting on a woman to thrust a large member of himself into her most intimate parts", clearly someone has never thought of the woman mounting the man and being in control of the situation. (I actually hurt a few penises doing this too roughly-- oops)

"The fact intercourse causes so many infections and tears and warts attests to the unnaturalness of intercourse, that it’s not meant to be. The vagina’s primary function isn’t to be penetrated by a penis but to eject a baby for birth." Uhhh... what? This is garbage. Using argument, guys doing anal to each other would be considered "unnatural" as all I would have to do is cite the aids epidemic. I could then expand to ALL sex is unnatural because you can get many infections, tears, warts etc as there is no such thing as "safe sex".

[–]emissch 9 insightful - 4 fun9 insightful - 3 fun10 insightful - 4 fun -  (2 children)

It honestly sounds like it was written by an infant who just learned what sex is, haha.

Some of the comments by the author are not better...

"The reason we have a vagina is because if we are pregnant, the baby can come out. It’s the physical function of the vagina. There is no other way for the baby to come out than through the vagina..." Apparently has never heard of a c-section, which has been around for centuries.

"...free-chosen PIV will never happen, since it’s rape." Just wow. Guess all of those times I initiated PIV sex because I WANTED IT, not only was a raped but I was asking to be raped.

"If you take the example of underage girls, whether she “sought” the PIV or not doesn’t change the fact it counts legally as rape, because it is understood that the girl has been manipulated and groomed and she is not acting under her own volition, she is doing that because of fear of retaliation or consequences if she doesn’t comply or please him. If you can understand that, why can’t you understand that the dynamics are EXACTLY the same for adult women? Why would the constraints on PIV, once women turn 18, suddenly disappear, and women are suddenly free and full of agency to want PIV of their own volition? This makes no sense whatsoever." So like, if I, as an adult, go to some man who I don't know and proposition sex, because I want to have PIV sex. And had I not taken the initiative interacting with this individual, I otherwise would go on my life never interacting with them. That is ME being afraid of retaliation or consequences of me not complying or pleasing him? Oh, come on!

"I’m sorry but I don’t believe you [another commenter] weren’t traumatised by PIV." I'm pretty sure that is gaslighting.

[–]emissch 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the author considers herself a radfem but I do think these mental gymnastics are problematic and anti-feminist. I'm not a liberal feminist by any means and do think "choice" feminism has issues, but when you gaslight, deny agency and sexual desire to your fellow woman, you're not that much different from an authoritarian conservative trying to control women's bodies and sexuality.

[–]PostmodernJukebox 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

if a vagina wasnt meant to be penetrated by a penis then how do they expect the baby to even be made???? magic???

Apparently you should ask a male for some sperm and rub it on your vulva.

I've read these links before and while there's some interesting stuff there, I really really hate people trying to make straight women either "turn gay" or live without sexual satisfaction. There are all kinds of things we can do to try to make women's lives better, including living separately from men and only seeing them for sex if desired, but the straight shaming and conversion therapy needs to stop.
