I value the idea of selectively breeding humans to improve the race as long as it's done voluntarily, but at the same time I'm not so sure what we would select for would be ultimately beneficial, like the now much maligned Red Delicious apple that were selectively bred for decades to look better but unintentionally became horrible tasting.

Often people say they want to breed out things like drug addiction and mental instability... but would a world of normie NPCs really be an improvement? I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have most of our modern technology if we had been actively engaging in eugenics for the last 80 years.

Any time this site starts to get popular things go tits up. Drama, bad luck, bad actors, and bad management have kept it down.

We have had as many as 76k regular users (when the Ice Poseidon 2 community was banned and migrated here) and as few as 20-30, several times now, that frankly I didn't think the site was going to bounce back from.

There's a couple things working against the site at the moment: we have no dev, we have hardly any administration (which is a mixed blessing), few mods, spammers, Edward (although he's apparently too busy with his schizo girlfriend Janice rn to try and sabotage the site), being blacklisted on Reddit (apparently mentioning us will catch people a ban), and that goddamned Cloudflare check.

Still, there's probably at least 100 regular users at the moment. It's not dead, but it is very... cozy. We were just pushing 200-250 before the overzealous Cloudflare protections went up again and that was just a few weeks ago iirc. We can't seem to break that, and I wouldn't be surprised if we are targeted when we hit that meager threshold.

Although it's nice to have an idea who you're talking to instead of randoms all the time, and to know the same users for years, it's not great for conversation. I could probably tell you exactly how most people here feel about any given subject. A lot of us agree with each other, but it's disagreement that sparks more lively discussion. And probably nobody is ever going to change anyone here's mind so if you're debating, you're doing it for fun.

Personally I love this place. I'll be here until I die or the lights shut off. I've had a lot of wonderful memories, conversations, and met a lot of great people here.

We used to have lively conversations in chat that almost never ended. Cheers to schizo Weegs, the raccoon loving Phooey, the Santa looking Canadian revolutionary Jason Carswell, sexpot Mel, the flamboyantly homosexual co-founder D3, confused trans furry Vulptex, former drug bon vivant Zom, Usher who told everyone she was a dude forever, the people I am forgetting, and the people still there.

We never truly appreciate something till it's gone.

But yeah if you just got banned from Reddit and want this place to be similar, it's not. Learn to ban evade. SaidIt might grow on you if you stick around. A handful of people can really drive this place forward when the will to do so exists . Who knows, maybe we still haven't seen peak Saidit.

I take 50,000 IUs of D2 once a week. I heard about the vitamin K being needed for the D to be utilized.

Fuel is going to be the big problem, there's going to be no place to get more once you run out. I'd plan on doing without. Maybe get a still and you can at least have alcohol. Not sure if any gennies run on alcohol but you can at least heat up food and water.

My parents have a singular serrano plant left but it's a very productive plant, we have a hard time using up the harvests, and it's been alive at least three years now.

I have a serrano plant that's even older, but it's a tiny bonsai like plant. It's got 7 peppers and that's yuuuge for it.

And I'm trying to replace my Filipino pepper plant. That one must have been six years old before it died. That was sad, I loved that plant, but they live 3-9 years so I guess it was just its time. I don't know if this was normal but before it perished it did start putting out way more peppers than usual. A last gasp chance at propagating offspring perhaps.

So, they will eventually die, but you can definitely keep the same plants going for years.

I have read suggestions about pruning them way back before overwintering but I've never done it. And we don't exactly have proper winters.

The US calls the shots, and I believe they know exactly what they're doing. It just isn't what they sold everyone on, which is fairly understandable as broadcasting your plans to your citizens broadcasts it to your enemies as well, and also because people are stupid and saying the war is for "democracy" is a good way to get public support.

Tying up Russia is important to keeping Chinese aggression in check, and I think it's fairly likely there's a backdoor deal to hand over Taiwan as soon as the US builds up our semiconductor industry. We saw Chinese saber rattling over Taiwan, and they quieted down when we devoted billions to domestic semiconductor manufacturing. That's obviously another thing that wouldn't be announced to the general public.

Now there's two hitches in that plan, One, do we really want to hand over Taiwan even if we do manage to build up similar chip making capacity domestically -- in case it needs saying, letting China have Taiwan before this happens is an existential threat to the US with only 2 solutions: bomb Taiwan's manufacturing sector ourselves, or start WW3, and that first option ain't great because China will still have an edge in that scenario.

Second hitch is that the US is likely never going to get domestic production up to what it needs to be fast enough to make China happy. Still, it buys us time to bullshit.

And it's important we don't strengthen China's position by allowing their biggest strategic ally to be unhampered by not having to kill hundreds of thousands of Ukranians.

We took an opportunity, a costly one, but I don't think it's a dumb decision at all. Lives may very well end up being saved in the long run.

Would China even had agreed to this hypothetical deal over Taiwan if their buddy Russia was available for a fight and they didn't have economic problems?
