No it's not. It's normal to not want to just have sex with random people. I'm talking zero levels of attraction. I have the same sexual attraction to a conventionally attractive person as I do to a toaster.

For example a woman can identify normally if she strait or a lesbian, she at least knows what directions she's pointing. Asexual the compass is spinning.

Demisexual is not just a healthy response. The problem is the vast majority of people claiming to be Demi aren't they are mistaking not wanting to jump into the sack with someone as not having sexual attraction. The fact that you see 'lesbian demisexuals' is a good example of this and how stupid it's gotten. Lesbian: A woman who is sexually attracted to women Demisexual: someone who requires an emotional bond to feel sexual attraction. How can someone feel sexual attraction while not feel sexual attraction? They can't, it's stupidly ironic. If they can identify that they are more attracted to women they aren't a demisexual or on the asexual spectrum.

Another issue the asexual spectrum have to deal with is how many partners someone has. I get that the whole 'gold star lesbian/gay' is toxic as heck but if you had a man saying he was gay but had like fifteen women sex partners in his history at what point do you say "hey maybe you're bi?". Same thing with the asexual spectrum, no one want's to shit on someone or slut shame them but I'm getting pretty damn tired of all these 'demisexuals' who have mile line lists of past partners claiming to have zero sexual attraction. "Like how easy is it for you to form a strong emotional bond? Are you just a level 10 clinger with massive codependency issues?"

I'm on the asexual spectrum. Yes it does exist, there is even historical representation of it throughout history; however, the vast majority of people claiming to be on the asexual spectrum aren't. That vast majority are mistaking sex drive and sexual attraction, a kink for sexuality, or have some sort of internalized homophobia they need to work though. For reference in the 90's there was a study that showed about 1% of the population was on the asexual spectrum then in 2017 they found 4% identified as asexual. The thing is you don't see numbers like that fluctuate and you would expect almost zero fluctuation on a lesser stigmatized sexuality. The asexual spectrum has become the annoying 'bisexual girl' in high school who want attention but is just a strait girl who is desperately alone.

OP I get why you have your eye roll moments with the asexual's; I'm rolling my eyes most of the time too as I've met maybe one other asexual that actually seemed to be an asexual. But they do exist, this isn't' a new age sexuality that popped up in the early 00's.

Never mind that they wouldn't be able to actually have children even if you could get the uterus to be accepted by the body because they won't have the hormones needed to grow the fetus (technology isn't there yet to do it artificially) or hips wide enough to birth or even support the baby.

The problem with just lumping demisexuals in with GL&B's is that your lumping someone who has no genital preference with people who have an unyielding preference. No amount of emotional bonding is going to make a lesbian like dick and I don't think they should be grouped together. Don't get me wrong the micro labels... have gone way to far and the majority of them are redundant. However I feel there needs to be something distinguishing between people who have physical sexual attraction and those who don't, we just don't need 500 labels amount of difference.

Meanwhile my brain is melting b/c that's the exact opposite of what a demisexual is and the poster clearly had some kind of gothboy kink; but, you can't say that on reddit because that would be shamming and phobic.

Asexuality was mentioned in 1869 as monosexuals, and 1896 as anesthesia sexuals. The label asexual didn't become a thing until the 1960's. Demisexual was differentiated from asexuality in the early 2000's simply to acknowledge there was some variance in the asexual spectrum. Essentially people who were in between sexual and asexual... thus demisexual.

" You type out multiple long paragraphs but always completely misses the point." Did I really now? Because " Has anyone here identified as demisexual before? (I have lol)" I have a feeling my long paragraph may have hit home. Just because you were confused about your sexuality doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I'm happy you apparently were able to figure it out; however, you are also a good example of what I was talking about. Asexuality and those who fall in the asexual spectrum are fairly rare.

I'm a demisexual. One of the reasons why I'm here is because on other sites cough reddit cough we can't talk critically about issued within the LGBT+ without being called a gatekeeper or phobic of some sort.

Now I know someone is going to chime in with "demi isn't a thing because everyone is like that!" which is sort of true in the sense the there has been a massive uptick in people misidentifying themselves as demi the same way every girl in high school was a 'bisexual'. Historically speaking the asexuals and those on the asexual spectrum made up about 1% of the population (Wellings 1994) compared to homosexuals which is around 8-10% depending on which study you look at. Yet now around 4% (GLAAD 2017) are identifying as asexual or on the spectrum. Which quite astounding as that makes them more prevalent than the 3.9% of gay men(Wiki), it's almost like you can't swing a dead cat without hitting six or seven 'demisexuals'. What I'm getting at is I don't think that +3% are asexual at all. I feel like the asexual and demisexuals are seeing the same climb that the trans are seeing with people who have internalized homophobia trying to identifying as anything but gay/lesbian. As well as too many people are confusing emotional bonding increasing sexual attraction and zero sexual attraction until some sort of emotional bond.

So on one hand I 100% understand the eyeroll when someone claims to be on the asexual spectrum; because statistically speaking they probably aren't. On the other hand it gets incredibly frustrating with people assuming I need to go to the doctor to get my hormones checked... which as nothing to do with sexual orientation. It can affect sex drive but not the direction, if hormones worked like that every time women went on hormone based birth control would they be at risk of becoming more of a lesbian? Less of a lesbian? What if a body builder took some testosterone to get an edge in competition would be become more gay? If so why aren't all of men's sports just men banging each other in the changing room b/c you know most of them are taking the T.

TL;DR I'm demisexual; but understand if people don't get it b/c it's turned into the 'bisexual girl in high school' of sexual orientations.

"many people are confusing emotional bonding increasing sexual attraction and zero sexual attraction until some sort of emotional bond"

When I look at people I can see beauty in the same way a heterosexual person can see the beauty of people who share their same sex but with no sexual attraction. Yes I can form a sexual attraction after I form a deep emotional relationship with someone. Key word being deep. Not just a we got to know each others favorite movies, foods, and music; now we have sex.

Like I said too many people confuse the two and think "Whelp I don't like one night stands, I'm demi!" I've probably met around forty or so people who claimed to be demisexual like myself, yet only one seemed to actually fit the bill. It's a big problem with the plus part of the LGBT+ with this whole super-acceptance-your-sexuality-is-valid it prevents people from doing the soul searching/therapy/self reflection needed to help them deal with many of the sexualities masquerading as demisexuality; normally internalized homophobia.

I brought up genital preference because we are talking about sexuality; heterosexual, homosexuals, and bisexuals all have it. you can't really have a discussion about sexuality without it coming up. Without a genital preference we are essentially running into 'we are all non binary and don't care' bull shit. And yes bisexuals do get the whole "maybe you'll find the right dick/pussy and be strait" crap to, maybe even more so as because they are attracted to the opposite sex as well they'll sometimes be called 'confused' or just 'curious' and will 'normal out' in the end. I don't care about your other comments I'm not going to stalk your post history.

Bisexual is attracted to two different sex not gender or personality or emotional connection. Lesbian is attracted to the same sex not gender or personality or emotional connection. Demisexual is default to zero attraction until a strong emotional attachment forms. Just to be clear, I'm not attracted to someone's biological sex nor do I have any form of genital preference. When I look at a person I might as well be looking at an aesthetically pleasing painting. I see beauty but I have the same amount of sexual attraction to people as I do to a slab of canvas covered in oil paint. The issue I have with squishing them all together is it implies that bisexuals and lesbians just need to find the right dick. Or that they have zero issue with being sexually intimate with a trans person who might have conflicting genitals.

It's not about being "special" it's about realizing that grouping bisexuals and homosexuals with asexuals and those who fall under the asexual spectrum a.k.a. demisexuals is kind of insulting for everyone involved. Especially the homosexuals, because no amount of emotional bonding is going to make a lesbian ok with dick or a gay man ok with pussy.

You don't have to like it; but, asexuals exist. As I mentioned they have been documented throughout history. This isn't a random fad that's happened in the last decade but a persistent sexuality that seems to pop up across all races and cultures in the same manner that we see other legitimate sexualities; homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality. This is something you don't see with the stupid micro labels; there aren't moonsexuals documented history, nor across race and culture barriers.

"I know plenty of people who could use the "demisexual" label."

That is exactly my point. The asexual spectrum isn't exactly a large number in the population; however, historically asexuality has existed unlike many of the modern 'sexualities'. You are seeing the same spike in numbers as with young women identifying as trans men in historically unprecedented numbers. To many people are confusing emotional bonding increasing sexual attraction and zero sexual attraction until some sort of emotional bond. There are far to many lesbian/gay/bisexuals who have internalized homophobia and can't differentiate between suppressed sexual attraction and no sexual attraction. So they call themselves demisexual to make sense of it.

If you want to know if a sexuality is "legit" look at it's history. You don't see any of this moonsexual, gender non-conforming, pansexual; pre early 00's. Yet asexuality was mentioned in 1869 as monosexuals, and 1896 as anesthesia sexuals. The label asexual didn't become a thing until the 1960's. There has always been recognition of those who seem to have no interest in sex beyond that of those who chose celibacy for religious purposes.

It is. It fall under the asexual spectrum. Though I do have to say with everyone and their grandmother claiming to be one in the same way every girl in high school claimed to be bisexual when in reality they were just testing the sexual waters, does make it seem less... legit. But in the same way you have to fish though the bullshit to find an actual bisexual in your 20's you can find actual asexuals and demisexuals.

Asexual is just the lack of sexual attraction, not necessarily sexual arousal. Some asexual are sex repulsed, and some are neutral. The sex repulsed asexual might not even masturbate. Those who are neutral, might masturbate but also have sex to please their partners or to have children.

One thing to keep in mind true asexuality has nothing to do with hormones. So please if you meet someone who is asexual or demisexual, don't tell them to go to the doctor to get their hormones checked. It's like recommending L/G/B to go to conversion therapy. Think of it like this, lesbians don't magickly become strait if they go on hormone based birth control, nor to do strait women become Lesbians. Nor do male body builders taking T suddenly become steroid ragingly gay. Hormones can affect your sex drive and libido but not your sexual orientation.

I think the big issue is people mis-using gender. Sex=biological, gender=sexual stereotypes that can vary across cultures. So I'm one of the women who doesn't care about restrooms, I just care about changing rooms were full nudity is expected, prisons, women's sports ect. The big issue I have with simply denying Trans-women from the ladies restrooms is that every issue is less of a Trans-women issue and more of a why-do-we-accept-this-as-okay issue. In the US the restroom situation is horrible. We need to move away from the whole stall door with a one in gap in the door and make more privet closet like rooms like they have in Europe. I've had doors so poorly attached they sort of swung open on their own, I've had the whole missing the lock cover so you have a hole in the door to peep though, I had a toddler try to crawl under the stall door who I kicked in the head. I would be okay with unisex restrooms that just addressed the privacy issue rather than just gender. And this would also be a benefit to men as well. I have some gay couple friends who had a hard time with their baby because they don't normally have diaper changing station in the men's room.

What I'm getting at is I've had plenty of creepy women staring at me taking a piss, can we address that first?

Hormones can affect sexual desire but not sexual attraction(sexuality) a lesbian isn't going to become strait by being on birth control. And as you have mentioned masturbation, many asexual do masturbate (but not all). If hormones=sexuality then all the gay men who were chemically castrated back when homosexuality was a crime would have magically been strait. We now know that isn't the case. Sexuality is who you are attracted to now how much sex you want.

Edit to add: It's not that the asexual spectrum isn't flexible. I myself am a demisexual; someone who need a strong emotional bond to feel sexual attraction. Demisexual is on the asexual spectrum or "under the asexual umbrella".

But all of that literally will have nothing to do with the plot of the story. Why do we need to know the life history of a trans woman's transition into a woman in a movie about bank robbers and high speed car chase? What does being raised by a homophobic parent have to deal with space aliens invading the planet? I really wish creators would stop shoehorning minorities in for the sole propose of virtue signalling.

The thing that annoys me is how much toxic behavior goes on in the alphabet soup community that makes people want to not be in their preferred relations ship and how much the community overlooks it. They are then called homophobic because they don't want to deal with the drama of huge age gaps, U-haul lesbians, bizarre BDSM fetish's, and the list goes on. This poor girl is almost 14 and her only experience of seeing LGB relationships is probably some non-binary woman dating a transbian who has done zero transitions but still demands female pronouns because their facebook icons is some underage over sexulized anime cat girl.

What I'm getting at is I wonder if this girl has ever witnessed a just plain old vanilla boring lesbian couple living their lives as people? I wonder if the lack of normal LGB relationship role models is what is causing her internal homophobia.

Also a woman who absolutely loves dinosaurs and I have no idea how the fuck it ever became a 'man' thing. It's literally rocks and fossils. How the fuck does that have a gender stereotype? On a side note this year they found a almost complete tail for a Spinosaurus! They had essentially a newt tail which gives us a good look into what their daily life would have been like (methods of locomotion and mostly aquatic).

I'm so glad I grew up in the 90's before the LGBT+ went full batshit insane. I seriously think I would have been "forced" into thinking I was a trans man rather than what I am a demisexual women. Growing up I developed breasts early on at age 10 and they were huge 34G at age 14. The leers I got from older men and other unwanted comments from women and my peers made me hate my breasts. I dressed like a guy to avoid the looks and comments. Just because you dress like a man doesn't make you a man. Just because you don't like men doesn't make you a man. Just because you have internalized issues about your tits doesn't make you a man. How about we stop throwing 'trans' labels on every youth that walks though the LGBT+ door and actually let them figure it out.

I feel like some of the newer lesbian porn directed at women can work but all the older crap is directed at men and does nothing for female pleasure.

I've even met straight women who tell me that normally they find men's bodies repulsive and only the act of falling in love (emotional bond) with them makes them able to be sexually aroused.

And we have a term for those people, they are called demisexuals.

Well, do you find women's bodies attractive? Sure you might not want to jump into the sack with just anyone but you could probably list a bunch of traits that a woman's body could have that you would find sexually attractive. There are reasons why many lesbians don't want to date trans women and many gays don't want to date trans men, because you aren't having sex with personality. I default to zero sexual attraction, when I look at even a beautiful body I don't feel any sort of sexual desire. I can't even come up with traits I find sexually attractive in my mind other 'healthy' and 'groomed', which I don't personally thing health and hygiene really can count as sexually attractive though it can kill sexual desire if you have some serious BO going on.

I mean you are kind of proving my point that most people see demisexuals as bisexuals. Also spending like 5 seconds googling will show you many sources saying that demisexuality falls under the asexuality spectrum. It's not like I just made this shit up.

So if you are bisexual you are only allowed to be 50/50 attracted to both sexes? Or do some people swing a bit more gay or strait than others? Like being bisexual asexuality is a spectrum and demisexual fall into it. The biggest difference I guess from me simply being bisexual is that I literally default to having no physical attraction to people... like at all. People even very beautiful people get the same sexual response from me as lamp, painting, or any other aesthetically pleasing object. I'm 33 and I've only ever been sexually attracted to 4 people in my entire life, and I didn't have sex with any of them.

I'm a demisexual. It falls under asexuality normally, and we like to be apart of the LGBT because many of us are sort of sudo bisexuals. I'm personally more likely to connect and form emotional attachments to my own sex (female) because I find women easier to bond with as they are normally more emotionally open and expressive.
