Dolly Parton is donating $1 million for coronavirus research efforts by Nemacolin in news

Dolly Parton has announced plans to donate $1 million to Vanderbilt University's COVID-19 research efforts.
"My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who's been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards research of the coronavirus for a cure. I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research and to encourage people that can afford it to make donations," she wrote in an Instagram post.
Parton and Abumrad have been friends since 2014, when he treated her after a minor car accident.
The years-long friendship between the two was explored in the podcast Dolly Parton's America, hosted by public radio veteran Jad Abumrad.
"At some point, Jad realized that there was someone calling on his father's phone and their name was an interesting pseudonym. He asked his dad about it and he says, 'Oh, it's Dolly. I just help out when she needs some advice,'" Dolly Parton's America producer Shima Oliaee said in an interview with Pocket Casts. "He's a good friend that advises her when she has a question. So that was the first step."

Doctor Warns of Bnei Brak 'Catastrophe', Army Begins To Evacuate Patients - Israel by Nemacolin in news
A doctor who was transferred to working on the Bnei Brak coronavirus epidemic spoke to the Makor Rishon newspaper and said that “a catastrophe is developing in the city due to lack of cooperation from patients, intentional misleading and insulting remarks. We spend hours and hours explaining in an attempt to curb a virus which seems to have spiraled out of control, but despite this doctors see people ignoring or intentionally causing harm.
“The compliance level of residents is low. Many patients who are called and told they are positive were out in the street and not quarantined as required by law and others intentionally close their phones so they will not know the results of the tests they underwent.
“Some of the patients have recovered somewhat but are still positive and could infect others. However they deem themselves healthy and refuse to evacuate to isolation or maintain proper isolation in their homes, which is almost impossible in these neighborhoods. Those that do agree to evacuate to a hotel come with unreasonable demands and don’t seem to understand that this is no vacation. They wear down doctors with irritating requests regarding food, choice of place etc. They ask for esoteric Kashrus, demand to be in a hotel with friends or try to organize evacuation for their entire family.”
The doctor added that there was not enough enforcement from authorities and not enough internalization of the danger to old and sick people. Whoever feels good thinks that they have won.”

Beer is Mexico's thirteenth largest export at US$4.5B, just behind refrigerators and ahead of piston engine parts.
Grupo Modelo, the brewer of Corona beer, will temporarily halt production and marketing operations in Mexico to comply with a coronavirus health emergency declared by the government.
Grupo Modelo, a subsidiary of Belgium-based AB InBev, said late Thursday it will stop production of its popular Corona brand and other beers beginning Sunday and is already in the process of scaling down operations to a minimal level.
The brewer operates eight plants in Mexico producing 46 national brands. it said it considers itself part of Mexico's agricultural sector, which has been deemed an essential service during the emergency. Brewers are considered non-essential.
"The government recognizes agro-industry as an essential activity, with beer being one of the most important components of this industry and the main agro-industrial export product," Grupo Modelo said. "More than 15,000 families benefit from the sowing of 150,000 hectares a year of malted barley."

An internal Amazon memo proposed a smear campaign against the employee leading coronavirus protests over conditions at the retail giant’s Staten Island warehouse, according to a report
The company’s general counsel David Zapolsky, in notes taken at a meeting from a daily update with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos about COVID-19, discussed a plan to single out fired worker Christian Smalls as “not smart or articulate” — and to raise questions about his behavior.
“We should spend the first part of our response strongly laying out the case for why the organizer’s conduct was immoral, unacceptable, and arguably illegal, in detail, and only then follow with our usual talking points about worker safety," wrote Zapolsky in comments leaked to the website Vice.com.
Zapolsky issued an immediate mea culpa to Vice, but the African-American ex-employee wanted no part of it.
“They’re digging their own grave,” Smalls told the Daily News. “It’s borderline racist. These people are disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves. It’s like a vendetta against me ... For what? For doing the right thing?”
The leaked notes also recounted a discussion among Amazon executives about using Smalls to discredit the wider labor movement at the company. Staten Island workers at the JFK8 warehouse began efforts to unionize two years ago.
“Make him the most interesting part of the story, and if possible make him the face of the entire union/organizing movement," wrote Zapolsky.
Smalls, who estimates as many as nine workers from the warehouse have gotten coronavirus, was absent from work on a mandatory quarantine order before his firing hours after Monday’s protest. He is calling for the shutdown of the massive facility for a two-week cleaning.

Pat Marmo walked among 20 or so deceased in the basement of his Brooklyn funeral home, his protective mask pulled down so his pleas could be heard.
“Every person there, they’re not a body,” he said. “They’re a father, they’re a mother, they’re a grandmother. They’re not bodies. They’re people.”
Like many funeral homes in New York and around the globe, Marmo’s business is in crisis as he tries to meet surging demand amid the coronavirus pandemic that has killed around 1,400 people in New York City alone, according to a tally from Johns Hopkins University. His two cell phones and the office office line are ringing constantly. He’s apologizing to families at the start of every conversation for being unusually terse, and begging them to insist hospitals hold their dead loved ones as long as possible.
His company is equipped to handle 40 to 60 cases at a time, no problem. On Thursday morning, it was taking care of 185.
“This is a state of emergency,” he said. “We need help.”

FDNY EMS ordered not to transport cardiac arrest patients that can’t be resuscitated in field by Nemacolin in news
FDNY EMS personnel have been ordered to not transport cardiac arrest patients if they cannot be resuscitated in the field.
The order was made in a letter Tuesday by the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of New York, which oversees FDNY EMS, to preserve hospital and ambulance resources amidst the COVID-19 crisis, according to the New York Post. Officials said the order is binding and effective immediately.
EMS providers will be instructed to begin compressions and artificial ventilation immediately when the patient is determined not to have a pulse, according to the letter obtained by the Post. However, if the patient cannot be revived on the scene, providers are ordered to stop CPR and declare the patient dead, at which point their body will be turned over to the NYPD.
The order applies to all adult non-traumatic or blunt traumatic cardiac arrests, according to the letter, but patients can be transported is there is a return of spontaneous circulation, a direct order from a medical control physician or imminent physical danger to the provider on the scene.

Amazon on Wednesday apologized to a British customer who called on the online retail giant to “immediately” remove from sale a book disguised as a puppy-training manual that in fact contains a full reprint of a 1930s Nazi propaganda book eulogizing Adolf Hitler’s achievements, ideology and work.
“We apologize to the customer for this issue, which was caused by a one-off printing issue with a supplier. Our supplier has confirmed that steps have been taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” Amazon said in a statement.
Lorraine Phipps purchased on Amazon Puppy Training by Jenna Jimenez on March 2 and was shocked to find instead, printed inside the book, Adolf Hitler, 1931-1935: Pictures From the Life of the Führer, originally published in 1936 with a foreword by leading Nazi party figure Hermann Göring. It contains 203 photographs and has accompanying text authored by some of the highest-ranking Third Reich officials, including propaganda chiefs Joseph Goebbels and Otto Dietrich.
“When my husband and I went to read it, despite the cover being as expected, it was actually a reprinting of a 1936 pro-Nazi propaganda book,” she said.

Study doubles Italian province's virus deaths by Nemacolin in news

A new study quantifying the hidden toll from coronavirus in the province of Bergamo, at the epicenter of Italy’s epidemic, has found that the number of deaths linked to the virus is double the official tally.
The study by the daily L’Eco di Bergamo with the InTwig data analysis agency puts the number of virus deaths last month at 4,500, compared with the official toll of 2,060, in the province of 1.1 million people.
Mayors have warned that the official numbers fail to take into account the many people dying at home or in rest homes who have never been tested for the virus. Under current policies, only those who arrive at hospitals manifesting strong symptoms are tested.
Lombardy accounts for 40% of Italy’s cases and more than half of its deaths, with Bergamo the hardest-hit province in the heavily populated industrial northern region.
Italy, which as recorded the most deaths of any nation, has extended a strict nationwide lockdown, including a shutdown of at least 60% of heavy industry, until April 13. But authorities caution that any return to normal movement will be a slow process.

I admit the Washington Times letters to the editor are simply the lowest-hanging fruit. Their stuff is simply nuts.
This was in the 31 March Washington Times. On that day, this virus killed 912 Americans.
I sympathize with those who have gotten sick from the coronavirus or even the normal flu that happens every year. That said, some of the precautions being mandated are tantamount to yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theater — when there is no fire.
I believe two things have been exposed by the pandemonium caused by the coronavirus. The situation reminds me of all the warnings put out for a hurricane that either doesn’t hit or is not as damaging as was forecast. This, and situations like it, lead people to not take future warnings seriously. Second, everything that has been done, including shutdowns, cancellations and postponements, has shown what ringing a media-driven, government-supported alarm can lead the masses to do. To me, this is scarier than the virus. Just think what a media/government collusion could lead to. What could government use as a reason to curtail or disrupt all of society?
Those who say the government would never be able to suspend the U.S. Constitution or our freedoms are wrong. This is exactly what has been happening. Just ask those confined to cruise ships and quarantine facilities in the name of prevention, or those whose vacations were ended or cancelled. Wake up; we are only one alarm from a complete change of society.

Swedish virus coffins get special mark by Nemacolin in news
The Swedish association of funeral directors has introduced a special marking for coffins containing the remains of people who have died due to the coronavirus.
Ulf Lerneus, who heads the association, said on Monday the symbol shows three drops signifying the infectious droplets that spread the virus, Stockholm daily Aftonbladet reported.
"It should alert those who are going to transport the coffin from the mortuary that there is potential infection risk if it is opened," he was quoted as saying.
The association represents about 430 funeral directors across the country.
The number of coronavirus disease cases in Sweden rose to about 4000 on Monday, while 146 have died, the Public Health Agency reported.
The Swedish association of funeral directors last week secured an agreement with the main local newspapers allowing next of kin to - free of charge - publish revised funeral notices, for instance if a funeral has been postponed or cancelled in line with new limits on public gatherings.
Sweden as of Sunday limited gatherings to 50 people, which also applies to funerals.
Some people have opted to livestream the funeral ceremony to limit the number of people in attendance, and to shield the elderly and other risk groups from possible infection.
A person who has died due to COVID-19 cannot be viewed, and according to Swedish legislation adopted in 2012, a funeral must take place within a month, with few exceptions.

Four dead in ferocious three-alarm Bronx blaze that gutted top floor of apartment building by Nemacolin in news
Horrible news, it might have been a space heater.
A raging fire gutted the top floor of a six-story Bronx apartment building on Tuesday night, killing four women and injuring another victim, officials said.
The blaze started in a sixth-floor apartment on Grand Concourse near E. Mount Eden Ave. in Mount Eden, with smoke pouring into two neighboring apartments, officials said Tuesday night.
The thick smoke killed two women in one neighboring apartment, and two more in another, police said. Witnesses said firefighters pulled all four women from the building, but all were unconscious.
One witness watched as medics frantically tried to revive one woman.
"They were pumping the chest of the woman. She wasn’t responding. She didn’t look good,” said one witness, who didn’t give his name.
One of the victims, Maribell Turner, 70, was a nurse practitioner, her grieving sister told the Daily News.

Police launch murder probe after family of four are found dead (Sussex) by Nemacolin in news
We can make this about American gun laws in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.....
Police today launched a murder investigation after a family of four and their pet dog were found dead at their home in a picturesque West Sussex village.
The killing toll during the coronavirus lockdown is now at nine, after the bodies of two adults and two children were discovered in Woodmancote on Sunday evening.
Sussex Police went to the home at 6.45pm on Sunday after receiving a call raising a welfare concern for the residents. All of them were pronounced dead at the scene.
The victims are also all believed to be from the same family, and it is currently being treated as a murder probe, amid suspicions over a possible murder-suicide. Police have confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths.
The Sussex murders were the latest in a string of cases at the weekend at the end of Britain's first week on lockdown, following concerns raised when the measures were imposed last Monday of an increase in domestic violence and mental health issues.

Israel To Open Quarantine Hotels For Ultra-Orthodox COVID-19 Patients by Nemacolin in news
I bolded the part that Fits the Narrative. Go to Town.
Two “quarantine hotels” are being prepared to house ultra-Orthodox coronavirus patients in Israel beginning on Tuesday, Hebrew media reported on Monday.
The hotels, which according to Channel 12 will be located in Bnei Brak and Beit Shemesh, will be separated by gender and serve food with strict kosher supervision to fit the needs of the ultra-Orthodox community. Two more hotels are being prepared to open in the future, according to the report.
The announcement follows Hebrew media reports on Sunday that despite representing just 10 percent of Israel’s population, the ultra-Orthodox make up half of all Israelis being treated in hospitals for coronavirus.
While Israel’s Arab-Israeli and ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods tend to be overcrowded, police have also cited difficulty in enforcing social distancing directives in ultra-Orthodox communities.
Community leaders praised the solution, reported the Times of Israel, with Bnei Brak rabbis calling for residents to cooperate with Health Ministry directives.

Remove Trump before it’s too late for us --Westerly Sun Rhode Island by Nemacolin in LettersToTheEditor
I am grateful the Northeast has strong governors. Working hard, they met the coronavirus threat and acted. Including our own Gina Raimondo, the governors give honest, steady and responsible information. Compared to them, White House leadership looks frail and indecisive. The White House is flailing. Fortunately, governors and mayors across the country have taken the lead. Credible federal authorities like Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx give responsible information but Trump contradicts them. White House briefings deliver conflicting, dangerous, inflammatory and petty information. The man who claimed “I alone can fix the system” has stumbled the nation into a fix. He is too inept to lead us out of it. When asked, he claims he is not responsible for the slow response to the virus. Why are governors and mayors leading when we have a national epidemic?
During a national health crisis, this president delivers a daily reality show. Trump fills the stage with members of the Coronavirus Response Team who alternately praise him, deliver propaganda and sometimes provide useful information. Hogging most of the time, he contradicts useful team information, picks fights with the press, blames others and whines. He heaps praise on himself, moans about bad luck, brags about a future recovery and acts like he is at a political rally. He often makes false claims about what federal government has done or can do. We need honest, steady, and responsible information. Trump gives us nonsense.
The Republican Party is responsible for bringing Trump to us. It is long past time for the Republicans to admit their error and force him to stand down. If someone is unfit to drive, take the car away from them. If someone is unfit to lead a country, remove them from office. If the Republican Party cares about the republic, it will use the 25th Amendment or impeachment to remove Trump. High crimes and misdemeanors are whatever Congress says they are. Yes, it would be a political vote. That is what impeachment is. It would be a political vote by Congress to save the Constitution and the nation. We now have both a public health and an economic crisis. Congress should remove Trump from the bridge before the ship of state begins taking on water.

She (the ship, not the journalist) was undergoing routine maintenance. It was great they got her underway so quickly. I am glad Rachel was wrong. I think she is probably glad to be wrong too. Great work by the Navy.

I am so going to steal that.
Isn't it ironic how so many politicians, celebrities & those considered "Elite" are getting the coronavirus, displaying "harsh" symptoms & are all "self-quarantining", all while they're also currently being investigated, arrested or charged for involvement in child-trafficking, rape/sexual assault? by Enza in WorldPolitics

What’s this about inmates being pet owners [“Inmates could choose what happens to their pets under Nevada bill,” News]? I thought pets are guaranteed to be therapeutic in all sorts of ways including making their owners better, kinder people. Many good lessons are promised to be learned from having pets, I’ve been told. So why are some pet owners committing crimes and winding up in jail?

Can I Have His Check?
As I listen to the Democrats attempt to hijack the Emergency Aid Bill, I wish I could be surprised that they would be guilty of such obvious attempts to insert their Socialist agenda into urgently needed aid for our country.
Unfortunately I am not surprised. As one leading Democrat stated “Now is the time to get our agenda passed” or as Rahm Emanuel has said “Never let a Crisis go to waste.”
Now the Democrats are wanting to extend visas , outlaw voter ID laws, allow for an unknown number of mail in or drop off absentee ballots, give huge gifts to the Kennedy Center, NPR and National Public Television.
I am unable to understand how any of these issues should be included in what is a rescue bill for the American People who have been impacted by the Corona Virus. These issues are only the tip of the Ice Berg of pork and unnecessary add on spending to the rescue bill.
Why when an agreement had basically been reached did Speaker Nancy fly in and pollute the agreement with her socialist garbage? The next time you go to the polls, remember the treachery of the party that held up the urgently needed aid from the American People for political advantage.
This is what you get when you vote Democrat. Never vote for any Democrat at any time.

Who is "he?" They don't pay American taxes, why should they get taxpayers' money? If these companies go bankrupt new companies will take over the business no muss, no fuss.
Because it would screw up my military pension.

Seems to be good news.
The largest cruise operators may be shut out of the business assistance provisions in the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package passed by the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, based upon the final language in the bill.
The relief bill is by far the largest stimulus package ever passed in the U.S., and it includes about $500 billion in loan assistance for large American businesses. After complex three-way negotiations between the Republican and Democratic leadership in Congress and the Trump administration, the bill contains language restricting assistance to only those companies which are organized in the United States and have the majority of their workforce based in the U.S. The three largest cruise operators are headquartered in the U.S., but they are incorporated in foreign countries, have large foreign workforces aboard their vessels and are substantially exempt from paying U.S. taxes.

Conservative pastor says spread of coronavirus in synagogues is punishment from God - Jewish Telegraphic Agency by Nemacolin in news

Fits the Narrative. Enjoy.
Rick Wiles, the Florida pastor who claimed that the effort to impeach President Trump was a “Jew coup,” said the spread of coronavirus in synagogues is a punishment of the Jewish people for opposing Jesus.
Wiles made the claim Wednesday on his TruNews broadcast.
“The people who are going in to the synagogue are coming out of the synagogue with the virus,” Wiles said. “It’s spreading in Israel through the synagogues. God is spreading it in your synagogues! You are under judgment because you oppose his son, Jesus Christ. That is why you have a plague in your synagogues. Repent and believe on the name of Jesus Christ, and the plague will stop.”
Wiles also claimed that the U.S. outbreak started at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference in Washington, D.C., in early March. In fact, the first case and the first outbreak were both reported in Washington state.
