(Discussion) Will the pandemic + OnlyFans peak women on the realities of sex work?

We’ve all seen the think pieces about women turning to Onlyfans during the pandemic for financial support after losing their jobs— because thanks to liberal feminism, selling nude pics is now “empowering” (because ‘kill all men,’ unless men pay $15 a month to jack off to them. Makes sense).

I’ve been thinking about this— since there’s a huge influx of normal, everyday women getting into this kind of sex work, do you think once the pandemic ends that these women will be peaked from their experiences on onlyfans? Will they come to realize that sex work, even “safe” sex work like only fans is not as empowering as they were lead to believe and that it can even be coercive through a screen? Is there any hope that the silver lining in all of this is that we’ll see a cultural shift away from praising women for turning their bodies into commodities?

Nope, b/c so many of them will make good easy money at a young age and think "this is the way to go" w/o realizing the downstream consequences of doing it as a main form of income.

I think not. Part of it is that while I'm sure OnlyFans is shitty and will expose you to how depraved men can be, it's not going to give anyone any insight into actual prostitution. So I doubt it'll do much to turn the tide of anything

I feel like the opposite will happen. Because OnlyFans is the diet coke of sex work they will see the shitty parts and attempt to push for more Legislation for sex workers to have more 'protections'. The problem is sex work working in an ethical humane way is a pipe dream because it ignores the fact that sex and reproduction by nature is competitive and people in general suck.
