/r/Books is pissed off that historical female authors who were forced to publish under male pen-names are having their work republished under their real names, because apparently it's evil to assume they weren't trans by marmorsymphata in GenderCritical

I think so, and not just in this regard. I was at a lecture discussing the excavation of ancient Viking graves in Scandinavia, and the primary topic was the discovery that one of the warrior-style graves contained a female body. The items buried with her indicated wealth, high-status and esteem. During Q&A, an audience member could barely contain her excitement that this woman MUST have been trans! The lecturer (Neil Price btw, excellent) politely made reference to beliefs at the time of shapeshifting into animals and all sorts of things, but this woman absolutely would not consider that perhaps, the buried woman had simply been a female warrior. The myopia was astonishing.

It's important to talk about for sure. Here's an interview with Maryam Namazie, an ex-Muslim and human/women's rights activist who is a key member of the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain. She's been the target of innumerable death threats due to speaking out about the treatment of women and girls in Islam, as well as other heretical critiques of the religion. Criticizing aspects of Islam, or the behavior of its adherents, does not make one Islamophobic.

Oh, that is such a good show. I have a morbid fascination with catastrophic structural failures, why they happened and how they were accounted for going forward in design and engineering. The TRA worldview and stranglehold on culture is built on the flimsiest of pretenses, little more than delusion and faith. Spread facts and try to keep as many people from getting hurt as possible, I agree.

The difference is that you are willing to look at the evidence and ideas put forth by other people and he is not. Do you remember the debate a while back between Bill Nye and Ken Ham? They were asked "what would make you change your mind?". Bill Nye answered "Evidence" while Ham said "Nothing". An unwillingness to allow ones understanding to adjust to new facts is a tenet of a faith based religion, not a reason based mindset. And your BF saying it's not his fight as a cis male is a cop out of the highest order; these attacks on women aren't happening in a vacuum.

One of the most frustrating things IMO is how TRAs make EVERYTHING about being trans. Not just the incredibly insensitive and tone-deaf things like you mentioned, but even the most innocuous. It's just so one-track and honestly, more than a little boring. If being trans and trans issues is your defining characteristic, you're just not a very interesting person.

This is a really good point IMO. A podcaster I follow has been flirting with coming out as trans, and recently spoke about how disconnected he is from his own sexuality. He said he doesn't really understand sexual attraction and desire. Obvs that's just one person, but it was a noted observation (and one that had little to do with the issue at hand, a pop song). Pure projection from people who can't see past the ends of their own noses. It's like despite claiming so loudly that they are and always have been women, our very existence as natal women exists only to remind them of what they truly are not and never will be and the hate is absolutely real.

Oh my god, the delusion and entitlement. NO amount of plastic surgery and unicorn dreams is going to make a gay orgy a place for you! This story is almost comically sad in the "wtf did you expect" realm, but the comments are fantastic. Reinforcing each others delusions that they "pass" (99% chance you absolutely don't) and that the problem isn't them, it's everyone else. Woof.

Entitlement is the backbone of trans ideology IMO. Not just the demands of transspeak and space access, but medical accommodation. To even consider having non-necessary surgery on a healthy body just to make it match a mental image that never was...how is that not the highest form of vanity? The threats of "Do this or I'll kill myself" just add to the abusive and narcissistic manipulation. Refusing to be gaslit makes them SO angry. I'm no psychologist, but perhaps a person who wants to make irrational demands of everyone around them, mutilate their body, threaten suicide for compliance and violence when they don't get their way isn't mentally healthy, and shouldn't be trusted to make good decisions for themselves or others.

Being discreet and not staring is just normal behavior...and no, I don't want to see your penis in the women's locker room, damn.
