Why were so many famous people in the past freemasons? What are their principles and why do people oppose them?

It's a semi secret society created by Jews to identify goyim that will betray their own. There are different tiers you move up through. Each level you get more 'secrets revealed' and privileges. Which creates a natural addictive dopamine feedback. At the top is the 'light bearer' i.e Lucifer. It's like satanic Amway. Super high level masons are most likely exposed to all the child sex trafficking Jews use to blackmail powerful people around the world.

Masonry is very real and still functioning. However, it doesn't appear to be the primary secret society used today. It served it's purpose and Jews are using other forms of subversion. (Jews are already in most major power positions and only need goyim as fronts).

It is a social club for the bourgeoisie. It is a way for reasonably connected people to meet, network and make friends. Since the people of that social strata are likely to be more liberal, the Freemasons have been associated with various liberal/globalist/communist political movements over the centuries. Add in the aura of fake social club and there will be a selection for more narcissistic and power hungry types. Like a lot of social clubs it is slowly dying and is more and more becoming a rec-center for boomers.

This is a very complex topic since Freemasonry has changed a lot over time and there are different types of it too. Usually when people discuss Freemasonry, they are referring to the political, antitraditional Freemasonry that emerged in the late 17th to early 18th century, and which played a very major role in the development, propagation and radicalisation of early liberalism.

Freemasonry is basically a bunch of people getting together and secretly trying to do what Jews do(cross-promote each other and act in their own collective interests), minus the ethno-religious component. I believe some of the founding fathers in the US were freemasons, so they had some support among the elite, but they were never as successful as Jews are because their secret society wasnt based on anything aside from a collective desire to get ahead, so they had to continually recruit new members in secret. I guess they still exist and some elites are freemasons, although it's hard to say the degree to which they continue to wield much influence.

Most of the masons that I've met were small business owners that seemed to enjoy the company/events and networking opportunities.

It's a satanic cult where ambitious scum without moral principles flock so that they can get certain privileges towards fame and fortune. The goal is to serve the Jewish agenda and worship the antichrist and work for his dominance. In exchange they take part in a secret club where things are arranged according to their profit. Greek governor Ioannis Kapodistrias outlawed them and ended up assassinated. Franco had a better idea and executed a few but the lodges were reinstated after his death and you can see where Spain ended.
