Just found out about this place from Twitter. Glad to find my favourite GC community again. I had no idea what to do without it.

Have now deleted my Reddit and hoping we get a better place than this (I hear there's a website) because this subreddit aside, this place is awful. Managed to get myself banned from GenderCynical and AHS, couldn't resist taking a snap at them before deleting my account.

Anyway, I wonder why TRA's are so mad about JKR supporting detransitioners. Are they saying those who detransition are now anti-trans too? What a cult

It’s called spinster! .

Thanks, will check it out, but it seems a bit different to use. We have to register first to use?

Spinster isn't the official r/GenderCritical replacement. That's a little way down the line but we've had a team of techies working on it since the day of the ban. Any day now. Seriously.

That the definition of woman is biological adult female. Transphobic apparently

Buck Angel continues being awesome in the comments:

"You cannot tell someone to stop talking about a subject that has a big effect on my community. Its her right to be concerned and detransition is on the upswing. I transitioned 25 years ago and as an elder I am concerned just like @jk_rowling If you voice your opinion so do others"

I actually feel pretty bad for those genuine (lack of a better word) trans women. Seems like their identity is being attacked and appropriated too. I gather many of them, however we may feel about them or think of their reasons, were actually just people trying to live their best life. Some of them seem pretty appalled by the current situation. It's a sad time we're living in.

I've just started reading about Buck, he's awesome

[–]dandeliondynasty 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes he has been happy as a man but knows very well the risks of medical transition.

I wonder if Rowling would ever consider writing a teen book about detransition. God knows, she's the only author with enough power and influence to get one published. There are no fictional books about girls transitioning and then detransitioning. It's scary how many teen books there are with female main characters who identify out of being female. They've exploded over the past couple of years. There are at least a dozen, maybe more.

Someone on actuallesbians suggested to stop reading the HP books, and read a fanfiction about HP being trans instead.

Seems like there are a lot of options:

Concerned when Hermione sleeps late, Harry decides to check on her and climbs the Gryffindor Girls' Stairs. This begins a journey of self-exploration and transition for Harry as she blossoms into her true self.

Harry always knew that there was something unique about him. In a way, the arrival of the Hogwarts acceptance letters was almost expected... except, why are they all addressed to 'Harriet Potter?

Peeves, though he was nasty about everything else--ickle firsties and orphan girls--got it immediately. For all six years of Harry's Hogwarts tenure, he dropped water balloons on the heads of anyone who misgendered her. Professor Binns never quite figured it out, but he didn't know any student's name. Nearly Headless Nick gallantly and somewhat awkwardly called her lady and tried to hold open doors for her, despite the fact that he couldn't open them. Snape called Harry "Mr. Potter" for all seven years that he was in Harry's life. Around year three, Ron stopped counting the detentions he got for his increasingly sarcastic responses to this.

Do you know that actuallesbians have a thread with ppl gloating about burning HP books and saying how problematic they are ? Apparently, those books are antisemitic, racist, and the fact that there are stairs for the girls' dorm and not for the boys' one is implying that only men rape girls, and that men on men, girl on girl and girl on men rapes can't exist

[–]RadioSilence[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Weird because the Gryffindor Girls Dorm does not allow males to enter (Canon), and actually threw Ron and Harry down the staircase once.

But then again, when fan sites ignore Rowling wrote the book, what do you expect from TRA's?

There is one I’ve read, Eon

Not technically transitioning but she does pretend to be a boy then reveals herself in the end.

Fascinating the vitriol unleashed when a celebrity speaks the truth.

I was never into the HP series, but I now have great respect for JKR.

Bahaha one of the comments on the tweet is that Dumbledore wouldn't be proud of the way JK is choosing to live. Yeah I'm sure that one keeps her awake at night.

[–]RadioSilence[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Rowling imagined character would not be happy with Rowling is such a braindead take tbh

[–]DorothyGale 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure she could write him being proud of her since he is a fictional character she created. Such sincere craziness in that world.

[–]bellatrixbells 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I'm still banned from Twitter for saying calling women c*nts was not okay. Would you be so kind as to share a copy of the tweet ?

[–]RadioSilence[S] 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Sure

JK Rowling: "I fear that the detransitioned women I interviewed are canaries in the coalmine. Not only for detransitioners, but for womanhood. They all, in some combination, found being a woman too difficult, too dangerous or too disgusting" -- Laura Dodsworth

Hey, thank you very much ! That article is more than I hoped for 🤗 cheers !

I'm starting to believe JK is one of our GC mods 😂😂 Also, isn't the site JK linked a pretty serious one ? It's cool that we're talking about detransitioners. Why shouldn't they be heard ? Because they don't fit the trans narrative ?

[–]RadioSilence[S] 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Yes, the Times is one of the best British newspapers in quality, and a very serious one. Luckily, the media we have here seems to be open to talk a lot more about women and those who have detransitioned rather than just hide behind the word transphobic. Rowling would have been vilified in the US press (And probably is being vilified), but the UK press are mostly behind her.

I see so much hope. Conservatives here are pushing a bill to stop young kids transitioning before adulthood, and Labour (The left party) has a new leader who at least recognises there is a dialogue to be had on this instead of the old man who thought TWAW was the answer to every issue.

[–]Wrencer 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

They got rid of Corbyn ??

Yeah I think it's a debate ppl need to have, instead of shutting ppl down. A detransitioned girl was complaining on twitter that TRA make sure she doesn't get heard. They're literally a vulnerable minority and they have to shut up, because TRA are stupid sheeps

[–]RadioSilence[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yes. It's what's started a sort of debate in Labour now. He got destroyed in the elections and the party went from far left to moderate left, and has started becoming tough on antisemitism

Starmer refused to sign the trans rights pledge the TRA's wanted him to sign (Which would have taken away almost every female space, if he signed and Labour came into power)

https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/keir-starmer-labour-trans-rights-transphobia-expel-me-a9461286.html

And while some of Corbyn's MP's are still there and as bad as ever, he's signalled Labour as a whole stepping back on this issue

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/labour-stands-back-from-gender-debate-nd730zrnf

Mind, he still spouts some of their lines, but his actions do not align with those words, which gives me hope. He has to tolerate some idiots.

As for detransitioners, their subreddit almost got banned and people just don't care to listen to their experiences. That article made me wonder even more, what if I suddenly lost so much of what makes me a woman to a surgery and then regretted it? It's too painful to consider.

Thank you for the detailed explanation !
